=^v^=: think rioto is goign to come?
vonel: hey
vonel: hope so
Ganaroth: Yo.
Ganaroth: Riot said she would be showing up.
Riot has connected.
Ganaroth: See?
Ganaroth: How are y'all?
=^v^=: o coo
Riot: hi hi
Ganaroth: Anything interesting going on?
Ganaroth: Ah, fuck. Just detected an incoming headache. Gonna take some ibuprofen and see if I can head it off.
Ganaroth: Well, tell me when you want to start playing, I guess.
Riot: Nothing interesting here, just surviving. And any time!
=^v^=: I ground a ton in city of heroes on some random test server and found some bugs
Riot: Hope your headache goes away
=^v^=: the oxford comma meme I just posted got a chuckle out of me
Ganaroth: It's not here yet. I'm just starting to feel the beginning twinges, so I was hoping that I could kill it in the cradle.
Riot: lol fair
vonel: I'm doing okay, and ready to go whenever
Ganaroth: Oof, ok, let's start as quick as we can, because I dunno that this attempt is gonna be successful.
Last time. you had a long conversation with one of the Angels of Valor, in which they agreed to aid you. They also gave you additional information about their operation, and about their master. They aren't particularly loyal to them, but have no choice but to do their bidding thanks to the Gray Angel's control of their necessary Soma. The angel also claimed that their master was an "Angel of Mercy," and offered an explanation. That idea leaves a tiny, wriggling splinter in your minds. It seems almost believeable, but something is just slightly off about it...
Ganaroth: (sorry about that, left it on background select)
=^v^=: (( ach! brain splitners! ))
Ganaroth: (Ah, okay. I guess the map from last time didn't get saved. My previous overlay is gone, and the Angel's token is dead again, lol)
vonel: (( Sever was oddly down when I tired to log in around noon or so ))
Angel of Valor 5: (Ah, ok. makes sense.)
Riot is disconnected.
Riot has connected.
Angel of Valor 5: (Huh. Welcome back. I didn't know you were gone!)
=^v^=: (( yes I forgot to save and rebooted the server about thursday and didn't put server back up ))
Riot: (( yeah got disconnected a few mins ago ))
Angel of Valor 5: (It's a thing that happens, Akaiku. No worries.)
Angel of Valor 5: (So are people not feeling it tonight, or similar? Or are you waiting for me to do something? Actual question.)
Angel of Valor 5: (I mean, it's fine. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do.)
Riot: (( I'm not sure what the plan was from here ))
Riot: (( I just remember "The Angels are cool now" ))
vonel: (( Kill grey ))
Riot: (( Is he down below the door we untrapped? ))
vonel: (( somewere ))
=^v^=: (( we were going to wreck up belowspaces so the angels we weren't beating up had plasuable denyablity then keep an eye out for the means of production so we can sieze it on behalf of the oppressed proletariat ))
Riot: (( lol ))
Angel of Valor 5: (I mean, yeah, basically. I can't remember if I actually said "means of production," but it's not like that's not essentially what I'm saying.)
Angel of Valor 5: (Proletariat Angels.)
Angel of Valor 5 hands over the ring of keys, and nods its eyeless head. "Go, now. Move swifly, and step softly. I pray that our next meeting will not be marked with hostility."
Eileen takes the keys and nods, heading over to unlock the door down.
Angel of Valor 5: (Dammit, small delay. The way I was going to describe this doesn't work. I need to rethink real quick.)
The steel hatch creaks open, and rather than revealing a ladder or staircase, a small elevator rises into place with a hissing sound. The fasteners attached to the rails suggest that it's used for ferrying heavy articles, such as the Soma barrels, up to the roof. The control panel, a lever on a bronze stand with a number plate, shines softly. The plate shows a good thirty floors, but several sections are dark, ranging from the basement level, to three floor a third of the way up, and the 27th.
Angel of Valor 5: (There, sorry.)
Itzen: "Fancy."
Kaylen Fisher: "Yeah, is. Though I guess it's practical too. Unless you're an exceptional individual, lugging those barrels up here from whereever would be an absolute bitch."
Eileen: "Indeed."
Lucky: "Fuck all of that, yeah."
Kaylen Fisher: "Hey, uh... angels. These dark floors. Mind telling us?"
Lucky: "I just assumed the elevator wouldn't stop there. Maybe broken, or somethin'."
Angel of Valor 5: "Our privileges don't allow access to those ones. You'd have to get Gray's key, or go through the guarded stairwells. The basement level, where the Soma comes from, is one of those, of course. I assumed that would be obvious."
Kaylen Fisher: "...Ugh. Yes, fine, it's obvious. You know what wouldn't be obvious? If it was something other than that." She mutters a bit to herself. "Don't tell me not to ask questions, ass..."
Angel of Valor 5 shrugs.
Itzen: "Hm, I suppose we might need to check out those dark basements at some point."
Angel of Valor 5: "We'll wait for you as long as we can, but eventually we'll be asked for. Good luck."
Kaylen Fisher: "Might need to, yeah. Gotta make sure our buddy gets his existence-juice."
Io: "Shall we go?"
Lucky: "Might oughta. Standin' here's wastin' time."
Ra'ven hops on the elevator
Lilium get's on as well
Lucky steps on the elevator, too.
Io: (What floor would you like to go to?)
Riot: (( So does Pell obvs ))
=^v^=: (( anyone against the one closest to the basement? ))
Riot: (( Sounds good to me ))
The lift clanks to life, and then sinks down into the building with another hissing sound. The light from the panel dimly illuminates the dusty elevator shaft as you travel past several metal folding doors; the exits to each floor that you pass. After a couple of minutes, the elevator slides, then lurches to a halt. You can hear some muffled conversation, and a bit of music on the other side of the metal door out of the shaft.
Eileen: "Backdoor to the main party area maybe?"
Ra'ven: "You'd think behind the bar, maybe a cook area?"
Riot: (( I keep forgetting this place is basically a club ))
Ra'ven: "I mean it's basically drink, so you'd wanna hide it's movement to customers right?"
Kaylen Fisher: "That sounds right to me. Which means... this is probably the rich fucks' section, right? I can't imagine that the other crowd gets access to the finer things."
Lucky: "Seems like no matter where we go, we gotta deal with rich fucks."
Kaylen Fisher: "I mean, I'm still hoping to be rich at some point, but I'm also hoping to not be a fuck. I just don't meet a lot of those."
Eileen: "DO we try and mingle or try a differnt floor?"
Itzen: "Really, I have not ran across one, perhaps if it's just someone who moves money..."
Io: "We're on the other side of the gates, so there are only a few ways to proceed now. From what we know, the only place that the Gray Angel is sure to be is with the wealthiest set when it conducts the "shared dream" that's been mentioned. Assuming it has the keycard on it, we'll need to either come into contact with it there, look for it, or lure it to a location where we could ambush it. Have I missed an option?"
Itzen: "I do suppose the priors had their cards on them, perhaps they are supposed to?"
Io: "I assume so, since they are keys to a secure facility."
Eileen nods
Itzen: "I wish we knew it's reletive willingless to do things itself, for if we could draw it into a brawl below."
Lucky perks up at the mention of a brawl
Kaylen Fisher: "Dunno. But if we wreck enough stuff, I can't imagine it wouldn't eventually show up. The difficulty is who else it would show up with. It's a good idea if it rushes down there by itself or with a small group. It's a less good idea if gathers up thirty or fourty of its employees before going downstairs to deal with us."
Pell: "Smaller numbers would definitely be better."
Itzen hmms, "Perhaps it is good then to attack the thing that makes the soma directly? As the rank and file do not know how it works nor are allowed to go there, it really couldn't get away with bringing anything but closest trusted avisors or beings I guess it's willing to kill afterwards?"
Riot: (( Isn't that on a floor we can't access yet? ))
=^v^=: (( with the elevator yes, but they said something about secured checkpoint stairs etc, Itzen it taking that's a thing you can cut through ))
Kaylen Fisher: ((The basement is inaccessible by elevator, but there might be stairs down that you could find. As Akaiku says.))
Eileen: "Drawing it to us is probably the best option. Finding it alone or with a small group on what ever floor it normally hangs out on would be the best, but we don't have the time."
Kaylen Fisher: "Yeah... if there's a shift change while we're still looking, we're pretty cooked."
Kaylen Fisher: "Well... I suppose that if we want to take the shortest distance between two points, we could always attack the checkpoint, and rush downstairs as fast as we can. That would immediately let it know what we're supposedly here for, right? However it produces the Soma, it's gotta be the most valuable thing down there."
Pell: "Could work."
Kaylen Fisher: "It goes down with its handpicked crew, and then we mess them up."
Io: "It still has the weakness of not truly knowing what it will do... but I have a feeling that will be a feature of all our options."
Itzen: "Yes, but i would assume that the source of its authority over its ilk is at least, well, important to it's goals?"
Itzen: "if we simply free these angels from the yolk placed upon them and the Grey just leaves... I mean, we have other targets if it comes to that and now we have a greatful.. is it a Choir?"
Io: "I meant that we do not know if it values secrecy or security more. The idea that secrecy is paramount is what keeps it from bringing all of its angels with it at once. If it instead decides that it is worth exposing its methods to its employees if it means that we will be prevented from causing more damage, then its response will be different. In some ways, I suppose how much trouble it would be to replace is the key question." Io nods to Itzen. "At least with the celestials I knew, they referred to themselves as choirs. The ones above mentioned much the same."
Ra'ven: "I mean we are supposed to wreck up somewhere down here after all and I'm rather curious what sorta god they have locked in the basement."
Lucky: "Wouldn't be the first god I've freed."
Kaylen Fisher: "I'm personally gonna agree with the instructor. This kind of authority HAS to be important. And that's why I don't think it would let more than it's most loyal down there. If the other ones found out, they'd be able to find who knows how many others who would risk doing this kind of thing."
Kaylen Fisher: "Vague explanations work for us, because we're already here doing this. If they wanted to get people down here to SPECIFICALLY mess up their boss's stuff, they'd probably have to give a lot more details about what they'd be running into."
Io: "I would want to see what is captive in its basement as well. As quickly as possible, please."
Ra'ven: "See? Who could say no to a face like that?" she says gesturing to Io
Io gazes up at the other party members with large, pleading eyes.
Riot: (( lmao ))
Io: (It's funny when I remember that Io is really the size of a large dog, so they'd be always looking up at y'all)
Io: (ugh. This patreon pirate site updates from some patreons a couple of times per week, but others go forever without a change, even when I know for a fact that the patreons themselves are still updating. I've been waiting on an update to FIC for weeks and weeks. The free version is almost caught up to what's available via piracy now. (cries) Uh...I'm not crying because I can't do additional crime. Shush.)
Riot: (( more crimes for the crime god ))
Io: (Hmm... what for the what throne should accompany that?)
Io: (Just a status reminder, the party is currently bunched up inside the elevator shaft, standing on the platform. The folding door, essentially made from sheet metal, is still closed in front of you, letting through the sounds of muffled conversation and music.)
=^v^=: (( large burlap sacks with dollar signs on it for the sack throne? ))
Io: (I could live with that, actually.)
Ra'ven peeks out of the folding door
As soon as you move the door, you realize the problem. A squeal of unlubricated metal sounds out. Luckily you hadn't tried to open the door completely, and the sound isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. You don't see anyone on the other side, but you immediately hear the conversation pause, followed by a low "what was that?" and a couple of other words that aren't quite as easy to hear.
Kaylen Fisher: "Um, so... now what?"
Ra'ven: "This seems like it's going to be hilariously loud... I ... um don't carry stuff that makes metal quiet?"
Ra'ven: "Suppose I could just teleport us out of that gap..."
Ra'ven: "Might take a little bit..."
Ra'ven hms, "Brimstone might not really carry in here though."
Lilium tries to peak out over Ra's shoulder to get a look at the room beyond.
The room on the other side appears to be a kind of storeroom for food and drink, or possible a preparation room attached to a kitchen. You can't see anyone there, only a large number of barrels, sacks of food, and bricks of various colors of powders.
Ra'ven tries to use her telporty shenanas to escape the elevator to sneakly see if there is space to extract the rest of them
Riot: (( bricks of various colors of powders makes me think we could turn this into a Holi celebration lol ))
Io shifts slightly. You get the feeling that they are hesitant before speaking. "I could... I could pretend to be a pet who has escaped its owner. I would clearly be the posession of someone a wealth, so they would... attempt to return me to my owner, no? You could sneak out while they attempt this, and claim me. Potentially. If nobody has a better idea." The reason for the hesitance in their voice is now obvious. There is plenty of space, actually. Once outside, you can see that although the stores are clearly full, plenty of space is left over for working with what is stored there, including tables intended for mixing, complete with alchemical equipment of dubious provenance.
Io: Dammit!
Io: (Fuck me.)
Io: (I tried to be clever and do multiple things at once, and accidentally ended up sending that whole io bit.)
=^v^=: (( lol ))
Io: (I'm annoyed now.)
Riot: (( pretty clever idea ))
Io: (Thanks. I didn't actually want to say it unless people seemed stumped, though, and we hadn't quite gotten there yet.)
Ra'ven uses telport shenanas to put everone in the plenty of space not in the elevator bit
Io: (If I am too ready to express ideas like that, I'd just take all your agency, which would be lame. You folks might feel like I'm telling you "this is the way I want you to do it."
Ra'ven easily teleports everyone out.
Io: ((Folks, the headache I mentioned is getting a little worse. Would it perhaps be possible to do another session this week intead of the last hour and a half of this one?))
Riot: (( Yeah that's fine! Go do what you need to feel better ))
=^v^=: (( I would be okay with calling it now, can't say if people are onboard with other day this week though as that's proven a bit tricky usually ))
vonel: (( sure ))
=^v^=: (( myself I'm a bit finding it hard to think/spacy right now ))
Io: (It's okay, Akaiku. Let's have you people mention which days could conceivably work in discord, kay? I'm sorry about this. I'm just starting to see spots, which means tonight is going to be fun.))
Io: (Migraines are bullshit. It's also why the ibuprofen didn't help, because they're neurological rather than muscular....)
Riot: (( oof. Go lay down, we'll figure the rest out later ))
Riot: Bye y'all
