Ganaroth: How are things?
vonel: okay
Ganaroth: Glad to hear that.
Ganaroth: I'm just stressed and pissed, which is hilarious given the actual amount of stuff that I do. -.-
vonel: I get it
vonel: I've been there myself
Ganaroth: Mmhm. I really did almost cancel tonight. I sorta said I was to Akaiku, then went into my room and changed my mind. It's just barely on the right side of the line.
vonel: Well if you feel like you want to stop early just say so
Ganaroth: Thanks. If I need to, I will.

Riot has connected.
Ganaroth: Ahhhh, though. I was able to read ahead a little bit on that FIC by being a dirty pirate and getting access to the patreon chapters. I did not think about the fact that the pirate site doesn't update weekly like the FIC. So now I'm stuck waiting multiple weeks for the story to continue. I regret my decisions. There's a hilarious thing going on right now where one the characters is trying to oust the guilds from her territory, and one of her big opening moves absolutely did not go as planned, and she was super taken aback by what actually happened. She's a generally pretty successful character, so occasions where she missed something important and stuff comes back around to bite her are amusing.
Ganaroth: Oh hey, Riot!
Ganaroth: Sup?
Riot: hi hi
Riot: not much, you?
Ganaroth: Stressed, pissed, annoyed... Ech.
Ganaroth: Sorry!
=^v^=: there is snow, work is dumb, irl friend going through some uncool shit, etc
Ganaroth: (sympathy)
Ganaroth: There is a suspect ratio of the people who I know who are dealing with shitty life stuff.
Ganaroth: Pretend that was good grammar.
Riot: Yeah I'm putting it out of my mind as best I can
Ganaroth: I mean, I don't THINK I'm the one spreading this, but it's hard to know for sure.
Ganaroth: (joke)
Ganaroth: Anyway, just tell me when things are ready.
Riot: ready
vonel: I'm good
=^v^=: i'm here 4 game
Ganaroth: Kk.
Last time: You folks talked with the Dryad Lilium, who had been held prisoner by Haarken, and she spoke a bit about her home, and how she came to be captured before talking a foot bath/drink.
Ganaroth: (When saying it like that, it feels fairly anemic...)
=^v^=: (( I mean for a while I did summeries like that for the early sessions cause it's funny ))
Ganaroth: (cries)
Ra'ven: "Well, we are on a roll, but maybe we should rest up a bit? What's our next target anyways?"
Eileen: "Which ever one is left I would think, can't be more then one or two at this point."
Pell: "I could use ...a nap."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Well, I can get some food going, if you'd like. Nothing fancy, but it'll fill you. And of course, the beds are still available. I've no other guests right now, after all."
Io yawns. "I want to rest as well. Today has been... exhausting." They shake themselves, trying to remain active. "We only need one more key to gain access, and we have several choices. The High Lady Tynaron, the Gray Angel, and The Gravelstoke family." Their voice is a bit slow and dull.
Ra'ven: "Hmm, I could go and bring back some drink from Lucky's to celebrate right? Since nobody looks particularly up to going out...?"
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "No, no, no! If you need drinks, I can go get some for you. Don't expose yourself just for that."
Lucky: "Damn, I was gonna order top shelf, too."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Well, I can go to the bar and get it for you, I mean"
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Apologies... I suppose I'm just a little nervous. You do things somewhat differently than we always did, is all."
Ra'ven: "Ah I suppose so. I'm somewhat new to this particular thing... Guess a potion maker getting a bunch of alchohol wouldn't be particularly suspicious?"
Eileen: "Probably not."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Heh, well, wouldn't be too suspicious for most people, really. I just don't want to take chances on someone recognizing your face."
Ra'ven likely is chilling in her not werewolf form, "Ya I suppose I stand out a bit..."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "I do use a lot of alchohol, but I make my own. It's not for drinking, really. Using top shelf whiskey to brew potions is unecessary. BUT. Most people don't know that. Trick of the trade: if you tell someone that what you're carrying is potion ingredients, they will almost always believe you. I've done that at least a dozen times."
Itzen: "This is going quite a bit better then it could have...."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist looks at Ra'ven, then flushes. "Oh. Of course. My mistake. We aren't a militant branch, so most of us aren't actually wolfkin. I'm not used to thinking in those terms. I suppose that is a fairly effective disguise."
Kaylen Fisher: "Instructor! Why did you say that? Now something terrible is DEFINITELY going to happen on third assault!"
Itzen tilts her head, "Relying on the Greater Gift is the main way to lose it. One should still be thankful for it."
Kaylen Fisher: "Be thankful once we're done. Thanking the wolf ahead of time seems like a saying about chickens to me..."
Eileen: "Well at this point were fighting an uphill battle regardless, who ever we go after next is going to be ready."
Itzen: "Perhaps. We can go after one that doesn't fit a pattern drawn by the others?"
Io: "I would be a liar to say that stories and their principles have no effect on the world. The so-called "Rule of Three" applies in so many cases because it is in fact a metaphysical principle, for example. But consider, Kaylen: Those same rules of storytelling dictate that one the third attempt, the heroes shall suffer a setback, but ultimately triumph."
Itzen: "It would be somewhat poor form to avoid devotion untill some sort of finality, as well. We have thusfar saved quite a few of my- our fellows."
Ra'ven points to the druid, "Also saved her it seems."
Lilium: "You did."
Io smiles at Itzen. "As you say. Drawn by others is the key phrase. Out of many moments and ideas, Kaylen has chosen to pick a set that supports the idea that we are doomed. You correctly point out that the solution, then, is to pick a different set, and draw a different conclusion."
Ra'ven nods, "Plus the silver time has faded so numbers and stories are weaker now."
Kaylen Fisher scratches her head. "I guess I don't quite get the whole devotion thing in the first place. I mean... Garmera doesn't really care if anyone is devoted to her or not, as far as I know, so why would devotion affect whether I get her blessings?" She raises her hands. "And I know that shouldn't be the point, but I spend so much time looking at her and studying her effect on the world that it's hard not to break things down into cause and effect."
Itzen: "Ah, see that's the thing, she does care, but most of her blessings are..." she hmms, " diffuse ."
Io: "Truly? Is that how it works now? How novel. In the world before, such things were more based around... well, I would say "place," but that's not entirely correct either. Your lack of extraplanar mechanics is making it difficult to describe."
Io: (Io was referring to story time.)
Kaylen Fisher: "That sorta seems like a distinction without a difference. If the only way her blessings affect the world is in such diffuse ways that they can't be observed or tested, in all practical ways it's like she doesn't care at all."
Itzen: "You give thanks beacuse it's a good thing to do, because of the gifts. Her response to them is..." She hmms, "Have you studied if those that DO praise Her end up slightly better off?"
Kaylen Fisher: "Not at all my field of study, but if you design an experiment that could reveal something like that, I'd be willing to go for it."
Itzen: "It is not particualrly easy to do as it requires a large population, but I would posit the continued existance and relevence of factions such as mine would stand to reason that something is backing it."
Kaylen Fisher: "What do I do? Give thanks and flip a coin every day for a year, then repeat for the next year and see how many times I "won?"
Itzen: "If nothing else the act of doing a common thing like that binds together people in common cause."
Itzen: "And fellowship is the Third Gift."
Kaylen Fisher: "Of course. That's more or less what the Lansiri philosophies are about, and those beliefs are strong enough, when coherent, to actual endow people with magic. That's the point, though; some of the philosophies are pretty nuts, and some of them contradict each other, but they still all work. So how do I know that any blessing isn't a result of that? The only way I can see is to perform the test with people who DON'T believe, so that any difference has to be external."
Kaylen Fisher: "Fellowship is awesome, Instructor. I'm enjoying it right now. But I don't need to perform worship to sit here."
Itzen: "Strong enough belief causes effects is the basis of certain powers as you say. Does it not stand to reason that enough people beliving a thing would reach even Her?"
Itzen: "And you do not, but perhaps someone else did need it for you to be here."
Kaylen Fisher: "Or reach something the you believe to be her. Or reach something that didn't exist before you began trying. Or not reach anything and manifest the effects anyway."
Itzen: "That is, in fact, why different sects sometimes have different beliefs."
Io: "Ms. Fisher... being the sort of being that I am, I'm unlikely to agree with you wholeheartedly, as much as I wish I could. But is there a reason you've chosen to be so confrontational about this?"
Kaylen Fisher flushes. "It's.... I'm sorry, Instructor. That really was rude. I've just had to push back against the things the "everyone knows" for my whole life. Which hasn't been that long, yeah, but it wears on you. I shouldn't take it out on you, though."
Itzen frowns slightly, "It is not an issue for you to ask such things. I'd be a poor teacher if I were unable to deal with questions."
Itzen: "Perhaps a way to think of it is if someone is asleep, would you still wish them well?"
Itzen: "They can't hear you and it's not likely to particuarly change their situation, unless you were perhaps loud about it."
Ra'ven: "See that's why I want to go pet her! That way I can tell." Ra nods.
Itzen gives a rather quickly batted down look of dumbfounded ness, "I... I'm sorry you want to do what?"
Kaylen Fisher gives a weak smile. "I could have been more polite, though. You're not coming at it from the same place I am. For me, it's that distinction without a difference, because I look at Garmera, and I see ethereological patterns. Weather, spatial phenomena, supernatural field effects, concept incursions. I have to look at it that way, because if I assume anything else, I can base a theory or recommendation on bad information, and then there is a non-zero chance that someone dies because of it. You're looking at it from a standpoint of her being valued as an entity herself. If I tried to thank her... it would be like thanking fire every time I saw a spark."
Kaylen Fisher: "I'd wish a sleeping person well, sure, because I know they're a person. I'm not a good enough to thank every chicken I eat, though."
Kaylen Fisher: "I'm not saying she's a chicken. She's way cooler and wilder than that, but since I can't talk to either one, it's similar to me. Actually, talking to a chicken would be a lot easier, huh, since getting in range to use an animal speaking ritual on Garmera would be problematic."
Ra'ven: "Go up and pet her, tell her she's doing a good job.." Ra nods, "I mean... if I were her I'd wan that?" A pause, then she looks at Io, "Didn't you say you knew her before? Think she cares about people?"
Io: "To say I knew her is not precisely correct, and you may not like the answer in full, Ra'ven, even if ultimately I take your side in this. Do you wish me to continue?"
Ra'ven nods, "I mean it's pretty long ago and people can change. You said you did after all."
Io: "Indeed, though you already presuppose her to be a person. I cannot speak as to her thoughts, but she certainly has both behavior and preferences, indicating an awarentess of the world. In my own time, I watched her approach our world as existence after existence fell to her, torn apart as she... played. Some she would ignore, only to chase down as devour those she found more appealing. Centuries of this, hoping she would not notice ours, and then scant years at the end knowing that our hope was in vain. I "knew" your wolf as the great enemy. The living end of the world, and the ultimate foe of those who had created it. It was to fight that battle that I rejoined the halves of myself. But I was never allowed to fight, and the gods now are silent. Even in my prison, I felt them wink out, one by one." They sigh. "Garmera is intelligent and aware. It is a person, at least of a kind, though I don't know how intelligent she is. And I will hate her forever for what she did. Not least do I curse her "greater gift" for having us be the final world she devoured before so many thousands of years of torpor. If she had only become tired one world previous..."
Itzen: "The world isn't devourered, however. Though the Malestrom tries... Unless we are actually inside her, which... I don't think anyone has studied that?" she looks to Kayleen in askance
Lucky: "The idea of living in a wolf's gullet is weird, not gonna lie."
Kaylen Fisher: "Uh... I can't say that anyone has tested that. We can see her there, after all. But to be completely honest there are more than twenty different acknowledged types of visual ethereological distortion, some of which are crazier than just seeing the outside of something you're inside of."
Kaylen Fisher: "Haha, wow, Lucky. Give me a chance one of these days, and I'll tell you some REALLY crazy stuff."
Itzen: "It wouldn't go against the strange geometries that happen when you get too 'far' from the rest of the world I suppose. Would be a rather sad thing although the duration of such an act makes it a bit.. Well..." she hmms.
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "I'm actually pretty interested in this conversation, but it might be best if you tell me who you plan to go after tomorrow. I can try to brew up a few potions for you to take with you again, if I know what to make."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (brb)
Itzen: "I believe if we had no other more specifically opportune targets we were requested to go after the Gray Angel to throw off suspicion."
Lucky shrugs. She clearly doesn't care as long as she gets to hit someone.
Eileen: "Someone who knows them better should be making this choice, I don't know any thing about any of them so I'd just be picking blind."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Ugh, that thing... it won't be an easy fight, but then none of them are." He shakes his head. "The Gray Angel is a kind of drug magnate, essentially. Well, drugs and a number of other vices, but he's more invested in the drugs side of things. It rubs me the wrong way, considering my profession. It's an unapologetic predator of those who think they are willing, but who really just don't understand the dangers."
Pell: "Sounds like a class act"
Eileen: "Sounds good to me."
Itzen: "That sounds like... well, a bit of a problem if we suddeny stop it."
Itzen: "The more exotic drugs like that are unplesent, occassionly fataly so, to cease."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "It has substances that have the most spectacular effects, but you have to pay very real money for that. For the rest, you have powders and potions that will addict you while hollowing out your insides. By design, incidentally. It's made no secret of its contempt for the impovershed of this city, and once claimed that its most dangerous substances were purposefully so cheap that the poorest would have no choice but to buy from him, and face the consequences." His mouth compresses. "It's true. There will certainly be consequences if it disappears tomorrow. But there are consequences for leaving it there as well. Who was it that suggested you go after the Gray Angel?"
=^v^=: (( doees Denish adn co have a cool moniker or are they The Brothers? ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (I hadn't thought about it, actually. I can try to think of one, but should probably do that later, lol. For now, we can just say Dinesh, and pretend you said whatever else. )
Itzen absoulty has resting chunbi enough to use cool monikers "It is perhaps not a great idea to know the politics behind it, but it was Dinesh who suggested it."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Ah.. and you hit Nosnra and Haarken before. He's sending you after some of the worst, then. Doing a little housecleaning, probably. Killing your way into the inner circle is a time-honored tradition, but anyone already there who tried to physically go after another one would just cause an all-out war. With you here, he doesn't even have to lie when he says he didn't hire you. Directing your efforts, though...heh." He smiles. "All different flavors of awful, but if you want to hit someone unexpected, Gray Angel is a good choice. Haarken and Nosnra obviouslly had direct connections to my friends, and Tynaron is probably one of the people experimenting on the Orb. The Gray Angel is more or less unconnected." He frowns. "I think, at least."
Itzen: "If they are into drugs like you speak of, perhaps that's part of the unnartural reactions we are finding in the solders."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist 's mouth compresses again. "I hadn't considered that. I suppose that to me, this phenomenon is new, while the angel isn't, so I didn't connect them." He thinks about it, and then nods, reluctantly. "I doubt it's entirely alchemical, but that could easily by the major component. And..." He sighs. "I'll be frank: It's a rare soldier in Adhikaar who NEVER indulges in one of the Angel's concoctions."
Ra'ven nods, "Just cause alchohol works normally doesn't mean it can't also be magic, after all."
Itzen: "Also, I suppose I have objections on principle of such a person continuing to prey on the poor."
Itzen: "Do you think you and your like might be able to help... blunt... the fallout?" she asks the potion maker, "Or are there things we should look for?"
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Essentially the principle behind alchemy in the first place! In this case... Um, maybe something that causes a particular kind of confusion? Ulghor Blossom Dust, maybe. Encapsulate it in an inert base which responds to a predetermined trigger, releasing the substance..." He frowns, going over things in his head. "I couldn't come close, of course, but if I had twenty years and all the money I could ask for, I actually MIGHT be able to figure out how to do this." He starts. "Oh! Oh, sorry, I should pay closer attention. Well, that's a difficult question. The city's apothecaries and healers are probably capable of dealing with the situation, but the difficulty is whether they will. It would have to a priority job for essentially everyone for the duration of the crisis, which would be... at least a month, more likely two or three. And that means that we apothecaries would need to be paid, or we ourselves would go bankrupt and starve. Unfortunately, the prospects of getting someone to pay all the city's apothecaries for that entire period of time to brew medicines for the destitute is probably as difficult as you would imagine. This only people with that kind of money are exactly the people who profit from such things."
Itzen: "So we should be on the lookout for any valuable resources laying around that could be split that low then."
Kaylen Fisher 's eyes flicker over to Itzen in amusement, then back to Glentes. "Yeah. How "exactly the people who profit from it" are we talking about? Because we might be about to mug one."
Itzen sighs, "And if we were to try to hire all of them, some of them will realize their value went up. Perhaps it is necessary to allow Denish to apply presure for the public good, as it were."
Lucky: "We can at least ask, for sure."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "I... well, even if you did acquire enough money to do such a thing... and this would require that you simply turn over an enormous amount of coin, incidentally... I suppose you'd have to disguise the source of the money. And you'd have to put someone in charge of it that you could trust to actually use it for this purpose. If you think that Dinesh and Samir are people you can trust, powerful people on the city have occasionally been known to retain craftsman on fullfillment contracts. The city would post a bid for, say, forty thousand cleansing restoratives in pre-assigned lots at a given price. I would, for instance, sign a contract to deliver 5000 of them by the agreed date. The contracts themselves are, by custom, non-negotiable. You either agree to the terms going in, or do not sign. Normally, it's only used for goods that are not needed immediately, for customers who are more concerned with price. But there's no reason that someone couldn't post orders at an ABOVE market rate with a short window. If the initial incentive is enough, I think a great many of us would accept before realizing how markets would change. Enough of us to matter, at least. And once you sign a contract... well, it's a contract."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (lolololol me write text bricks about economics, because IT"S NOT THAT FIC SHUSH YOU.)
Riot: (( lol ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Seriously embarassing. I have no idea why I went into detail like that on something that, when I'm almost certainly the only one who cares. XD )
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: Something LIKE that, typo typo.
=^v^=: (( there is a current season isekai-isk show where the protag would be 100% saying that whilst a cute dragongirl would be pouting cause he only cares about work ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Was going to make a comment, but then realized that I would have to explain a complicated inside-jokey concept to do so. Booo. Oh well. Insert isekai mockery here.)
=^v^=: (( the point I was making is basically, "I mean it's not nobody, there is anime about that right now" ))
Itzen: "I suppose it would work out a bit better that way, as it wouldn't have to be coin, if it can be something valuable that someone like them could get coin for, which would make it perhaps easier to abscond with."
Itzen: "I do not think we have the equipment necesssary to run off with a room full of treasure."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist turns back over to Lilium. "Sorry to keep talking like you're not here. These kind people have agreed to help save some friends of mine. I guess they're generous enough to save people even when they aren't directly paid for it too. I'm glad. You probably don't have a place to go right now, so for the time being I wouldn't mind if you stayed here. At least until you decide what you want to do next."
Kaylen Fisher: "We really, really don't. And frankly, you should be glad. If it was easy to make magical containers that big, can you imagine what the Iron would do with them? Smuggle whole squads into enemy cities in people's pockets, for one."
Kaylen Fisher: (Kaylen responds to Itzen.)
Lilium nods, "All right, but if they'll let me I'd like to help."
Itzen: "We can find you a cloak but do not feel obligation to do this for the rescue. Other reasons are fine."
Lilium: "If your taking on others like the one that held me then that is reason enough for me."
Lucky: "This town has no shortage of 'em."
Io tilts their head. "And do you view this as righting a wrong, or as getting revenge? Both worthy goals, but I doubt most here are willing to risk the the former at the expense of the latter."
Io: (Tiamat being literally a deity of vengeance and Bahamut being literally a deity of justice)
Lilium: "Any real revenge I could have gotten died when you slew him, but I would be liying if I said that wasn't part of it." She looks down, "I don't know the people here so I can't really say it's for righting a wrong either, but from what you've been saying it sounds like they need the help regardless. Guess I'm not really sure why I want to help at the moment, but just sitting back while all of you run off feel's... wrong?"
Ra'ven: "It's probably at least boring..." Ra nods
Io pads over and looks up at Lilium solemnly. "Then by this act, let things be settled between us. You were given an unexpected gift, child of fey. I, at least, will consider any debt repaid by your help."
Lilium: "I... of course."
Io: "I think we should allow her to come. Her powers may prove useful, and for many fey it is distinctly uncomfortable, or even harmful, to give or receive gifts. There are any number of stories about it."
Ra'ven nods, "Favors hang heavy on many."
Io: (Like Santa Clause! That's why people put milk and cookies out for him. He can't give gifts without receiving something in return.)
Io: (I just absolutely made that up. Did it sound reasonable to anyone?)
vonel: (( makes sense to me, he is an elf after all ))
Io: (mmhm!)
=^v^=: (( ra and vull feell that less hard as they were raised in super communist setting ))
Io: ((Yah. And remember that Io's knowledge here is lik 30K years out of date. Many things have changed, and he doesn't know what he doesn't know, you know?))
=^v^=: (( yep, also ra is also a devil, one of the more inherently selfish creatures in the world, so she's even less phased ))
Io: (There are quite a few things that used to be rules that are now more like trends, and vice versa.)
Ra'ven goes over and pokes Kayliin in the shoulder, "Also, try to get beat up less tomorow..."
Kaylen Fisher: "Aw... but I'm just starting to get good at it."
Ra'ven: "It'd be rather hard for you to appreciate a plush if you died."
Pell: "I'd prefer none of us bite it tomorrow."
Kaylen Fisher: "What? You wouldn't let me die. Eileen would just yell in my ear, and I'd just wake right up and reattach my head."
Ra'ven: "Would have to check with the girl, but I am pretty sure ghosts don't really care about new things positivily."
Eileen: "Your damn right."
Kaylen Fisher: "See? She knows how it works."
vonel: (( Warlords, yelling the blood back in. ))
Ra'ven hmphs, "Hey I have already said I can't really do much to stop you from dying. Same with if I got Vul's awesome ancient travel-sized dragon too scuffed up."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (It's funny, cause nobody in-game would get that joke, so it's just Kaylen being a little silly instead of making a reference. Out here, though, we can appreciate my wit in its full glory.)
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (sarcasm intensifies.)
=^v^=: (( there are 3 healing words, only warlords get one that isn't magical xP ))
=^v^=: (( a good deal of the time the word isn't "yip"! ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Would you like me to provide an explanation for each leader class about how you would describe their "healing" without it actually physically healing wounds? I guarantee I can.)
vonel: (( Ardents are just hippys who peace and love the pain away ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: ((I mean, yeah. Their emotional control abilities allow their allies to fight through pain and fatigue. You don't even have to reach on that one.))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (They're like magical aspirin and monster energy)
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Or you can say that they psychic the blood back in. Either way!)
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Well, if you're going there tomorrow, I'm going to get work on some Sessin Powder, maybe a few other things. It's an inhalant that sort of... it proofs you against a small degree of poison for several hours. It's used by people safeguarding themselves at meals, yes, but also from food poisoning, badly made alchohol, and any number of other things. It'll even proof you against nausea from foul odors..If you'll be going up against the Gray Angel, I think you might appreciate something that will keep you from being addled as soon as you walk into its den."
Ra'ven: "That DOES sound like something I'd want to avoid..."
Ra'ven is all sincere
Lilium: "Does sound useful
Lucky: "Yeah, I deal with enough smells owning a bar."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "Its headquarters is this place called Gray Clouds. A high-class den, with plenty of security. They'd probably throw me out if I stepped onto the same street. I'm faily certain your bar isn't the same sort of place. Gray Clouds is more of a full service establishment. On the plus side, that means there will certainly be plenty of spoils for you to make off with."
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "The Medicinal Guild always has the worst stories about that place. Obviously I've never been there, but I can answer what I do know. Or... well, I'm talking as though you're all from away. You've probably heard the same kinds of things."
Eileen: "Maybe Lucky and Pell have, kind of why I'm leaving the bulk of this to those two and Itzen."
Lucky: "Most of the time it's been a 'mind your own business' kinda deal in this town."
Pell: "You just don't like paying attention."
Lucky mimes kicking him in the shin.
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "A little irony there. The barkeep who doesn't pay attention. Well, I suppose that the ideal is more or less supposed to be one that always listens but never asks questions, so maybe it's not so crazy."
=^v^=: (( it's getting a bit IRL late, did we wanna keep going? ))
Lucky: "I pay attention to me and mine. Besides, what do I need to get involved in the politics of this shithole if I've got this jackass to do it for me?"
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: ( )
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (I think this is ok for tonight, personally. I was actually going to say that, more or less.)
Riot: (( That's fine ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Thanks again. I'm going to make sure to have everything prepared for next time so that we can do either fighting or talking, or a combination as needed.)
Riot: (( sweet ))
Ra'ven: ima get a sammach and apoligize for talking so much ic today
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (also, going to try to reformulate my encounter design strategy.)
Riot: (( why apologize ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Apologize to them, not me! I joke. I didn't mind, personally.)
Riot: (( no need to apologize in my opinion ))
=^v^=: (( large amount of text vs other players ))
Riot: (( all good ))
Riot: (( I'm still recovering so I just didn't have a lot I could think of to add ))
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Sympathy) I hope you continue to feel better.
=^v^=: (( one time a player we had exploded and yelled about me doing that among a long list of random greviances ))

=^v^=: cat meme, "Come child, it is time to do drugs "
Last time on DnD, you made the choice of your final target: The Gray Angel. This actual angelic being has long been Adhikaar's biggest player in the trade of narcotics and other substances. Adhikaar occupies a strange place in the League of Five when it comes to drugs. Other nations have lists of outlawed substances, but Adhikaar simply doesn't. Pressure from the other nations means that their exports are tightly restricted and monitored, but in the city itself, few things are prohibited. The Gray Angel, however, specializes in very high and very low end substances, gleaning fortunes from the city's elite in its drug dens and brothels, while systematically and publically poisoning the hapless poor who can only afford his cheapest products.
The location of Gray Clouds, the angel's highest-profile establishment, is where he is likely to be holed up. Remember, though: Due to previous activities, the gendarmerie of the city is active and alert, and the Gray Angel itself has probably increased its own security.
Itzen: "I suppose storming the den would bring a bit too much attention immediatly..."
Eileen: "Yeah."
Lucky: "Probably not the smartest."
Kaylen Fisher: "Well, luckily it's a public establishment, right? Perfect place for a softer approach."
Ra'ven: "I am not sure we really pass as particularly rich or poor though..."
Ra'ven: "Nobody is really all that downtroden and only like, Elieen and I... err, her seem to even be able to 'aloof'" she gestures at Itzen
Kaylen Fisher: "Hey. I can pass for poor in my sleep, thank you. All I have to do is be honest." She grins. "Nah, though. I was figuring that we slap a big chunk of cash down on the bar, or whatever, and actually order some stuff. I don't know what door policies they have, but we should be able to wing it, right?"
Eileen: "So pool everything we've got an act like were the biggest shit in town?"
Ra'ven: "Seems like it'd also attract attention..."
Ra'ven looks to Lucky, "Do people go to places like this after they get like, a 'score' as it were?'
Ra'ven: "I mean we do pass as a bunch of mercs..."
Kaylen Fisher: (Lucky could tell you with a Streetwise check.)
Riot: (( I missed that Ra directed that at Lucky ))
Lucky:
  : Rolled 10. Streetwise
Riot: (( lmfao ))
Riot: (( rolled a 5. Sad days ))
Kaylen Fisher: (Looks up your Inquisitive network thing, and notes that you can probably get a +4 to that if you have contact in the city. Which you almost certainly do. And that would make it succeed.)
=^v^=: (( ya was bout to ask ))
Kaylen Fisher: (In any case, Gray Clouds is well known amongst the more well-to-do element of the city, on both sides of the law. The establishment is segregated into different levels, with a variety of "moods." Among those are certainly ones which promote a rougher, more raucous experience, and are often frequented by the more dangerous elements.)
Riot: (( lol forgot about that one, this would be the first time ever using it ))
Kaylen Fisher: (Sorry! I should probably allow it come up more...)
Kaylen Fisher: (Uh, anyway, that info has been made available. You folks are going to have to say what you do with it.)
Ra'ven: "I mean, rougher likely means we can be annoyed and bring weapons."
Ra'ven: "Maybe not, but seems more likely then other places."
Lucky: "Annoyed, with weapons. Yeah, that's us."
Kaylen Fisher: "Maybe. Even rougher places might take your weapons on the way in, if they don't want murders on the floor. Especially if everyone inside is going to be among the clouds."
Itzen: "I mean, if they charge extra for cleaning up that sort of thing, it would perhaps help with retaining people."
Kaylen Fisher: "Heh. You'll have to ask them about their business model."
Itzen: "I more or less assume their ability to explain might be cut off simlar to the last person who's key we took."
Kaylen Fisher: "Mmmhm.... it occurs to me that it might be more effective to get there, check it out, and THEN make a plan, once we know the specifics."
Itzen: "We do need to move a bit unobviously to get there as well."
Eileen: "Keep in mind that the whole of the city guard is going to be out in force, so the longer we spend out there the higher the chance we get noticed."
Io: "Indeed. Aside from your Griffon, Itzen, we don't have a convenient way to shuttle ourselves to that location. I suppose we could always fly two at a time over there to avoid patrolls, but it would risk us being separated if a fight breaks out on either end. The dark would cover the flight, but people might notice the landing as well."
Itzen: "We might be able to use the confusion of the sudden power vaccum if worst comes to worst, but as was stated, we don't actualy know till we get there."
Itzen looks to Lil, "How are you with animals?"
Lilium: "Not bad... but I may have somthing that will allow us all to fly there."
Io tilts their head, waiting for Lilium to explain.
Itzen: "Depending on how obviously, that would assist a great deal."
Lilium: "I can call on some Eagles to carry people around, never really had a chance to use it before sense it seemed kind silly when i was on my own."
=^v^=: (( Gandolfing it woo ))
vonel: (( I mean I kind of had to once I saw it ))
Riot: (( lol ))
Io: (Sorry, I was just writing a big rant, not interesting to anyone else. Then realized I was typing it here, making me look busy. Woops.)
Lilium: "There not real eagles from what I understand, more like spirits that take the shape of eagles."
Io: (But yeah, you can fly everyone to the drug club like James Gandalfini.)
Io: (....sigh. That would have been topical like 20 years ago.)
Ra'ven: "Ah yes, like how my brother does it with foxes."
Ra'ven: "Though foxes generally do not fly, except my brother now it seems."
Io: "We all have totems close to our hearts. Such spells take their form from these, unless we force them into a different shape."
Io: 'Vul is close to his nature, and thus summons the spirits of foxes to aid him. I assume you have a different set, Lilium. But if you're willing to help us in this way, it might be of great use. I doubt they'll suspect this means."
Lilium nods, "It'll take me a few minutes to call them up, so let me know when you want to go."
Ra'ven: "Suppose we'd need a bit of space to jump on a bunch of big birds..."
Riot: (( I forget, were we gonna do this the same day or the next day ))
vonel: (( I would assume the next, so we have a chacne to rest and recover ))

Lilium goes up to Kay the next day before they get ready to go, "Ummm... it was mentioned yesterday that you tend to take a lot of hits, this might help." She holds out a small gold colored acorrn, "If you eat it it will help you recover a bit."
=^v^=: (( eat some acorn and be kay ))
vonel: (( basicly ))
Kaylen Fisher takes it, and examines it closely. "Huh. I've never seen this... Some kind of druidic magic, I assume. My knowledge on that is a bit sketchy. What is it?"
Lilium: "Simply put, condensed life energy."
Lilium:
  Seed of Healing
Primal power threads through lilium, coalescing into a golden seed ripe with healing magic.
Effect: You spend a healing surge but regain no hit points. Instead, you create a golden seed the size of an acorn. The seed lasts until it is eaten or until the end of your next extended rest. A creature carrying the seed can take a minor action to eat it and regain 28 hit points.
vonel: (( I do have a second power made for the heal, so no need to worry about remembering the healing amount. ))
Lilium: Lost a healing surge.
HP: 75 / 75— Surges: 10 / 11 — APs: 1 — Daily Items: 1
Lilium: "And when someone consumes it that energy infuses them to help them recover."
Lilium: "It's taxing so I can only make the one."
Ra'ven does some stretches whilst wating for birds, "Going to need to do some relaxing after this string of work, huh."
Ra'ven also seems to have more crows then one would normally expect sitting around looking at her
Kaylen Fisher: "That's interesting. It's not exactly the same as a potion, or an artificer's infusions, then. It's more like just... a spell. But in solid form. Wild."
Riot: (( von might have DC'd ))
vonel: (( Nah I'm here, just everyone went very silent so I wan't sure ))
Riot: (( Ah okay cool ))
Kaylen Fisher: "Druid magic always does the craziest stuff. With arcane magic, the rules aren't that hard. It's all math, yeah? Run the equations, add energy, and it works. Venture out from there, and you start getting into magic that requires you to believe, or to hold certain moral positions, or call upon greater powers. That stuff is completely alien to me."
Kaylen Fisher: "Like, if I'm doing the spell, why does NATURE care what I did last week? NATURE isn't even a thing, It's more a concept, so how does it have memory at all?"
Lilium: "Nature has a very long memory."
Kaylen Fisher: "Like I said, it's wild. If I ever tried to talk to "nature," I'd never be able to find where to send my message spell, but somehow it has wants and needs anyway."
Itzen: "I would suggest it IS a thing. As it does react and have prefrences. Perhaps they are reflections of the beliefs that form it or the beliefs are the reflection of the needs. Which side of a mirror one finds ones self is often unclear."
Itzen: "I have ran across someone who attempted to explain that arcane magic worked the same way, except it ws belief in math for instance."
Kaylen Fisher: "Oh, I agree it has those things. The issue is whether it has identity as a consolidated being or not. If it doesn't have that, and I've got no evidence that it does other than to call it the sum of what we BELIEVE nature to be, then we're back to "what the hell, why." And that belief thing might work if it were a Philosophy, but druidic magic definitively ISN'T based on belief." She shakes her head. "No no no no no. Belief has shit to do with arcane magic. Arcane rituals work even if you don't know what they are supposed to do. If you have enough available power, you can even do a ritual without knowing you have magic. That... usually require memory alteration, but still."
Lilium shifts slightly, "Any ways..." She presses the seed into Kays hand, "...use it when you need it, I'm going to start calling the eagles."
Kaylen Fisher: "Thanks, I appreciate the hell out of it, 'cause I do get beat on a lot. I'm trying to fix it, but designing new spells... well, let's just say it's more than a matter of believing it'll work." She winks.
Kaylen Fisher puts the seed away in her pouch.
Itzen avoids pointing out her belief-based dodge spell
Riot: (( tfw you can't remember where you said something backstory wise ))
Riot: (( sad ))

Riot: (( nm I found it. Was thinking about how Resena used to do that thing where she'd do spinning tosses with her sword, wanted to know how I described it ))
Ganaroth: (cool.)
Lilium does the thing.
Lilium:
  Eagle's Flight : Ritual
Great eagle spirits thunder through the sky, carrying you and your allies to a far-off location.
    Component Cost: 400 gp
Key Skill: Nature
Time: 10 minutes
Duration: 12 hours
Effect: Up to eight giant eagle spirits appear to carry you and your allies. Each eagle can carry one Medium creature. The eagles have a fly speed and an overland flight speed determined by your Nature check.
Creatures take a -4 penalty to attack rolls and defenses while carried by the eagles. The eagles can't attack or affect other creatures in any way.
The eagles' defenses are equal to yours, and if an eagle is hit by an attack, it descends to a solid surface to drop off the creature it carries, then flies away. Eagles who have flown away during combat can be called back as a standard action outside combat.

  : Rolled 34. Nature
Ganaroth: (Eagles have the zoomies.)
=^v^=: (( eagled ))
At the completion of Lilium's ritual, you can all feel a change in the air, like the scent of the wind just before rain. An eagle, translucent, and glowing so faintly that you can't really see the radiance until it's almost upon you, swoops out of the darkness, coming to rest on the rooftop beside her. Its wings brush the planters to either side, tipping over a tall, spindly shrub.
Ra'ven rights the shrub
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: "I appreciate it. Wouldn't fancy trying to find another Slekesti Fiber Tree."
Lilium smiles, "All right whos up first?"
Ra'ven points to Lucky, "She knows where the place is right?"
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Lucky would be able to find it easily enough.)
Glentes: Wolf Cultist: (Pell probably could too.)
Lucky: "Pell probably knows better. Like I said, I'm more of a 'mind your own business' type."
Pell: "I swear to all the hells, Luck. What kind of bartender are you?" He looks at Ra'ven. "I know roughly."
Lucky just shrugs.
Ra'ven gestures at the bird to Pell, "Then lead on. It'd probably be fun to wander around till we found it in a different setting, but we are time pressed also the town is hostile..."
Kaylen Fisher: "You know, a surprising number of bartender's say that. That they're paid to serve drinks, not spread gossip. That sort of thing. I feel like that's becoming the new stereotype." She nods toward the eagle. "Uh, I call riding with Lilium, since she's probably done this before."
Itzen: "I will assist the dragon, as I am somewhat versed in riding."
Lucky: "I'll ride with smartass here."
Pell glares at her. "Better a smartass than a dumbass."
Ra'ven: "Suppose that leavs us then?" to Elieen
Lilium: "They really only carry one person each, Io can ride with someone else more then likely, but I can call up enough for everyone if they want there own."
Riot: (( Oh gotcha ))
vonel: (( can call eight, and they only carry one medium sized creature. ))
Kaylen Fisher whimpers. "People are meant to fly in ship, not on top of animals..." She sighs. "Ok, lets do this."
Ra'ven: "Ah, then I guess you'll just have to trust me or I guess our employeer to catch you if you fall.." Ra teases Kay
Kaylen Fisher: "I trust you pretty well, Ra. Don't let me down, pun intended."
Ra'ven: "If I do, it'll be gently at least?"
Kaylen Fisher: "As long as we stay over the island so that I don't land gently two thousand miles downcolumn, sure."
=^v^=: (( so we bird over to the cloud place? ))
In short order, you are able to mount the big birds. You quickly find out that, despite Kaylen's apprehension, the spirits simply respond to your thoughts, gently carrying you without regard to your own experience or lack thereof. Well before you arrive, you see it; Gray Clouds. The name seems almost perverse, evoking a sense of serenity and grace that is completely absent in the real thing. Gray cloud occupies a high tower at the border of the Ember district, where the monumental edifices of the wealthy brush up against the tenaments of the rest. The tower is bathed in lurid colors and shining lights, and surrounded by exotic species of foliage that you think must have been harvested from a feywild incursion during an Argent cycle. Dangerous. At the front, two long lines snake around the buildings in opposite directions, being shepherded at two different doors, each guarded by a pair of fiery forms.
Ra'ven: "Fancy plants"
Angel of Valor and the others appear to be checking people as they enter. Standard stuff really, aside from who is doing it.
You manage to land the eagles out of sight. Thanks to the darkness, you don't think anyone saw you. Besides, despite thousands of years in a verticle world, most land-dwelling species still haven't gotten over their tendency to not look up.
=^v^=: (( unless they are wolf cultists obviously xP ))
Io: (Different kind of looking up.)
Io looks puzzled as they dismount. "Yes, the plants are interesting. I'm also interested in those creatures at the entrances. Fire elementals of some kind? I didn't recognize them."
=^v^=: (( some sorta check for that? ))
Kaylen Fisher: (Yeah, religion)
Lilium:
  : Rolled 12. Religion
Eileen:
  : Rolled 19. Religion
Itzen:
  : Rolled 27. Religion
Pell:
  : Rolled 23. Religion
Lucky:
  : Rolled 16. Religion
Riot: (( Lucky doesn't know shit about religiosity ))
Rather than fire elementals, these are Angels of Valor. Essentially angelic footsoldier types, they don't have many powers other than flight and their flaming weaponry. These ones have an oddly purple tinge to their flames amidst the red and orange that makes them look somehow sickly. Like all angels, they also have a kind of presence that turns aside blows as long as they are yet unwounded.
Itzen elaborates!
Eileen: "Huh..."
Itzen: "In the event they accost us perhaps I can use a trick."
Io stares, a look of concern on their face. "You call these creatures angels? Much has changed yes, but on this I refuse to bend. These are *not* angels. Archons, Guardinals, Aasimon, Asuras. All names for Angels. For celestials." It indicates those creatures. "I don't know what those are, but if they call themselves angels then they are *lying.*" They pause. "I will need to speak with Tyellenthi when I have the opportunity. She should know about this."
Kaylen Fisher: "...Archons are elementals."
Io: "Your world is nonsense."
Itzen: "Is this not your world as well then?"
Lilium giggles
Lucky stifles a laugh at how angry Io is getting
Io: "It WAS my world, until the object of your worship decided to play with, tearing apart a garden that we built for you and forcing you to live on the fragments. You no longer even know what you've lost, and your world has been filled with pale imitations. And at the end, so many of you choose to venerate the agent of your destruction. Perhaps some part of this is still my world, but the longer I spend here, the more difficult it is to see." They snort. "I'm sure these beings are.... fine. But they certainly wouldn't be part of a choir on Mount Celestia."
Itzen: "They are fancy looking guards on a drug den, I do not know what this place you speak of is, but it sounds like it has more prestigue then doing that."
Ra'ven frowns slightly, "You know, the world has a lot of cool and interesting things in it. You haven't seen much of it right?"
Io: "I apologize. I should have realized the name would mean nothing to you. Mount Celestia was Bahamut's home. A place of soaring peaks and silver clouds, guarded and inhabited by the righteous. He... enjoyed it. Tiamat viewed it with scorn, but now that I am whole, I can recognize it for jealousy." Io pauses. "Aside from the island I was found on, you've been with me to see all the places I have."
=^v^=: (( we see any oppertune spot for the rough and tumble people. ))
Ra'ven: "Oh, so they aren't like the people from your hometown then..." she nods, "I run into that as well."
It's quite easy to see once you look. The two lines are kept well away from each other. In one line walk the destitute and desperate, along with a smattering of people who seem as though they're either slumming it for the night, or enjoy a more raw experience. The other line contains people in well tailored clothing, with visible jewelry or other accoutrements. The Angels here seem to actually be checking people; the other two have ejected one or two people as you've watched, but you're not sure about their criteria.
Ra'ven: "Oh maybe we can ask the rejects what the angels were mad about?"
When you get close, you're pretty sure that while these angels would be formidable opponents for most people in the city, they'd probably only be dangerous to you in numbers.
Ganaroth: (You may talk to them if you wish.)
Ra'ven absoulty will assumign nobody stops her
Ganaroth: (I'm not gonna stop you.)
Ra'ven would ask one of the lower class ones though
Ra'ven taps them on the shoulder, "Hey, what was that guard all pissed about?'
One of the rejected individuals, a young woman, is muttering to herself and angrily kicking debris up against the wall. She gives a start when you touch her, letting out a weak yelp, and drawing away with quick, jerky movements. She calms when she sees that you don't mean her harm. Facing you, you realize that she's younger than you thought, perhaps 15. Her face is dirty, with a hollow look to it. "Aahhh! Ah.. um... Oh. Uh, sorry... didn't... didn't hear you there. Uh... This is the door of need, right? You either gotta have coin, or you gotta... want it enough. They can see it in the head, right?" She shakes hers. "I'm on the second day without. I guess I'm not desperate enough til the third."
Poor Girl: "Having coin might be worse, though. Those fuckers get followed. They know you're there to get fucked, so they try to get everything you have before you go. Had folks who were burned half to death when it turned out they didn't have as much as they expected. Bastards."
Ra'ven hmms, "Suppose there is quite a line... Not from around here." a pause then she pulls out a few coins, "Perhaps something elsewhere will help tide you over? Though I suppose that'd make me one of those with coin, so best you have some of them as opposed to them..."
Poor Girl looks at you suspiciously. "What you want me to do for them?"
Ra'ven chuckles, "Ah, ya, I mean I personally would like to not have to wait, but unless you have a way, you can just have those coins."
Ra'ven: "Getting rejected from a door of need for not needing enough just... annoys me."
Poor Girl: "Yeah, I got an easy way. Go up to someone in the line, offer them a couple of coins like you did me. They want in as much as I do." She reaches out and grabs the coins, the speed of her hands almost at the edge of politeness. "Grayngel like to help out people with needs like this, right? But he's only got so much, even him. Rationed to the people that need it most." She giggles. "Load of shit, that is. Not stupid enough to believe it. Fucker just want the people most likely to kill themselves."
Ra'ven nods, "Dishonest arena, unlike the other one in the town."
Poor Girl: (??? What?)
=^v^=: (( Ra refering to watching people desperate fight for their lifes ))
=^v^=: (( she assumes that's the sctcick of only letting the desperate in here, also the alure of the area combat ))
Riot: (( I just can't parse the sentence with regard to where we are ))
=^v^=: (( she sees both of these places as things where the point is to wtach the desperate struggle ))
Poor Girl: (I'd personally say that there's a difference. People risking themselves in the arena are essentially gambling. They can come to harm or die, but they might also win rewards and acclaim. The desperate here are just outright preyed upon, with no hope of ever getting anything out of it.)
=^v^=: (( for the people ya, but Ra is looking at it from the spectator side ))
Poor Girl: (Even on the spectator side, while it's not all of them, a lot of people watch the matches out of an appreciation for the art and competition. There are definitely people who are just there to witness savagery, though, and those would definitely be similar to the kicks that the Gray Angel seems to get out of this.)
=^v^=: (( ra is saying it's dishonest here because of that witnessing savagery point is hidden here unlike the arena where it's obvious ))
Poor Girl: "Heh, if I could be in the arena, I'd have a way to get coin besides answering your questions."
Poor Girl: (I understand now.)
Poor Girl: "I'd just get cut in half straight off."
Ra'ven sighs wistfully, "Alas. Perhaps your luck will change for the better someday."
Poor Girl 's eyes move from one of you to the next. "Needing info about the clouds? Got a plan there?" She eyes some of your visible weapons. "Maybe I should stay away tonight?"
Ra'ven: "See, you are much smarter then the average person."
Poor Girl: "Trying my best, every day. Helps that most people are complete shit, so I look good compared."
Poor Girl: "Need more? I guess got nowhere t'be tonight."
Ra'ven tilts her head, "Lets say we wish to speak directly with the Grey?"
Poor Girl: "Um... Wow. Aside from causing a big enough problem?" She thinks. "Entertains big shots sometimes. It'll come down from the castle for that, or for whatever political bullshit is going on. Uh... It's not down on the crap levels, but they got a thing on the high fuckery levels I heard of, where it sorta... I dunno, makes a big dream with all the rich assholes. Friend says it comes down and works the crowd a bit. Never seen that, though. Grayngle is a big person, and I'm not. Him looking in my direction could turn out real bad for me."
Kaylen Fisher: "It would be good opportunity to whisper something in his ear, if we go that route."
Ra'ven shakes her head, "Doesn't even hand out it's handouts itself. But that's helpful to know."
Kaylen Fisher: (Gray Angel is genderless, but I often say "he" because oldbrain.)
Poor Girl: "Gotta give you your gold's wortth, right? Don't want you to think I'm cheating you. Probably wouldn't survive that."
Poor Girl: "But, uh... if you don't need more, I'm gonna skitter. It's looking like you folk might be playing violins tonight."
Lucky: "Probably smart for you to dip out, kid."
Poor Girl: (The simple street slang is just a substitution of "violins" for "violence.")
Poor Girl: "Smart, that's me." She gives a shaky laugh. "Have fun, and loot whatever you can."
Poor Girl takes off, gait unsteady but surprisingly quick as she retreats off into the dark.
Poor Girl: (Weeeeellll, it's like 7:15, and iy's not a terrible stopping point, since you're about to DO A THING. What do you think?)
Riot: (( sounds good to me, I gotta do some stuff anyway ))
Poor Girl: (Cool, don't want to keep you from your life. )
Poor Girl: (Next time, you can... I dunno, infiltrate, storm, or blow up the foundations. Though with that last one, you'd need to search the rubble for the key, and that would take a lot of time.)
Poor Girl: (Or obviously any other plan you care to make. Anyways... hope you're all doing well. Can't completely tell if you're there, but the sentiment is the same regardless. I hope you return next week.)
Riot: (( Of course! ))
Riot: (( Gnight, and thanks for the game! ))
Poor Girl: (Thanks for being here!)
Poor Girl: Night!
