Ganaroth:
How
are things?
Riot has connected.

Ra'ven:

Eileen:

a little queasy, probablyjust need to eat something
Ganaroth:
Ugh.
Yeah, I feel that.
Riot:
Hopefully
that's it!
Ganaroth:
I
definitely hope you feel better.
Eileen:
going
to see about getting somthing made really quick, brb
Ganaroth:
Kay.
Actually, I should probably get something to eat too. Bad idea
long term, excellent idea short term.
Ganaroth:
Argh.
Ok, there are just not a lot of people in this world who I
actively want to die. It takes a LOT to get that response out of
me. There are less than a handful, and I think you can probably
guess most of them. But you know one that you probably didn't
guess? Hayao Miyazaki. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's
Moving Castle... etc etc. Tons of pretty great movies. Ain't even
gonna pretend otherwise. The problem is that he is the most
hardcore angry old man yelling at clouds that I know of in the
ENTIRE WORLD, even worse than Alan Moore. And worse, unlike Moore,
it's like nobody is even acknowledging it, even though literally
everything he says makes me want to punch him in the mouth,
despite my essentially nonviolent nature and the substantial age
difference between us. What a fucking tool.
Riot:
What
did he say this time
Ganaroth:
And
this isn't a killing offense, but I just want to stop seeing his
self-righteous, faux-wisdom bullshit anymore.
Ganaroth:
Ugh,
he said something about how he changed the plot of Howl's Moving
Castle from the novel specifically to make it do worse in America.
War stuff. And I see it in an article that somehow spins it as
noble. Like it's an antiwar message. And it is, in a way, but he
makes it clear that he wasn't intending to reach anyone. Exactly
the opposite; he was trying to punish the US. And this is frankly
insane. And it's at least as bad that everyone seems to not
acknowledge the insanity, but asking everyone who doesn't get it
to die instead is probably unreasonable.

Ganaroth:

steal his heart pills, or something.

Ganaroth:
I

Ganaroth:
Sigh.
I mean, the future is pretty effing bleak, not gonna lie. But he
has never once been interested in fixing any of it, and his
condemnation of progress started a long, long time ago.
Ra'ven:
damn
he's a nhilistic asshole from
before
it was cool
Ganaroth:
I
wish I could say that his view constituted something as
sophisticated as nihilism, and that's saying something. He's
literally just pissed that the world doesn't match the fantasy in
his head, and wants to spread his misery around. The fact that he
brings people joy too is coincidental.
Ra'ven:
he's
cursed by the japenese gods to cause the oppisite of his intentions
Eileen:
okay
I got food, so I'm good to start
Ganaroth:
Nice.
Glad to hear it!
Ganaroth:
You
missed me frothing at the mouth at a person who did me no personal
wrong, lol. Welcome back. Ok! If you care to do so, you can see an
exchange in IC between Lucky and Chrysoberyl as the former turned
to leave. Akaiku, good to go?
Ra'ven:
sure
though I guess maybe I should check out the wind
Ganaroth:
Ah,
yeah. There were a couple of flickers recently, huh...
Ra'ven:
nope,
nothing important blowing away yet
A good thing to hear. Well, I don't think that we probably need to
discuss where we left off. Lucky and Ra just got done talking with a
prisoner, who gave them some info and was generally insufferable.
Kaylen Fisher:
"So,

Lucky:
"A
guy that knows far too much about some things he shouldn't." She
glares to Pell.
Ra'ven:
"Yes,
a helpful person told us probably where the rune is." She pauses a
bit her tail flicking back and forth, "I was going to guess a
devil or a fey, but I probably
would
guess that huh...."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Huh.
Well, if he's a devil or a fey, what's he asking for, in return?
Both pretty famous for that sort of thing.
Kaylen Fisher:
"Sorry,
just want to make sure it's nothing that's going to bite us
immediately."
Ra'ven nods, "That's the thing, it's
the other way around, they were suggesting that they
give
us something in return to not owe a debt."
Lucky:
"Aside
from the information he asked me for that I didn't give him."
Ra'ven:
"Oh!"
She turns to Itzen, "How well trained is your... err.. .bird?
Maybe instead of destroying the rune they could fly off with it?
Incase it explodes or something..."
Kaylen Fisher frowns. "That's
definitely not the norm for fey. They way I understand it, they're
pretty honest in their dishonesty. They tend to tell you what it
will cost you. Devils might pretend they're doing you a favor
while they screw you, though. Only thing is, I can't imagine you
signed anything or swore an oath."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Maybe
they don't need to, not sure. But that's the normal M.O., right?"
Kaylen Fisher:
"Ugh.
Ignore me. I just don't know enough. Can Ayalin help, Instructor?"
Those listening can tell that she's more certain about her statement
concerning Fey than the other, but it doesn't sound as though she's just
talking out her ass either.
Lucky:
"Whatever
he is, I don't trust him."
Ra'ven:
"I
always thought gratitude was, you know, unplesent to devils,
but..." she shakes her head, "I don't actually know any really."
Itzen:
"I
suppose it largely depends on how large the object is, he did make
it in here, so it stands to reason I could have him fly it back
to, say, that tower we dropped in from... Might be a bit difficult
to find again...."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Well,
you weren't exactly raised at home, way I understand it." She
blinks. "Oh, shit. Ra, I'm really sorry. That was a shitty thing
to say. My fucking mouth, trying to be clever." She turns to
Lucky. "Yeah. Honestly, charity is always suspicious as hell."
Io:
"Must
we find it again? I fail to see how it is our responsibility,
after we are done here."
Itzen:
"Well,
it's a theoretically still going to be functional teleporter
blocker. Such things have use and value."
Ra'ven frowns a bit at Kay, "I mean...
I might have been? I just don't really remember it..."
Io:
"I
suppose you are correct, yes. But if she simply sets it down at
the top of the watch tower, one of us can pick it up on the way
out, no? And if we must leave it behind, it will not be a
devastating loss."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Still
kinda a dick thing to say, and a dick way to say it. Fucking
running my mouth like usual." She seems glum. "Well, let me at
least buy you a beer, or... something. To make up for it."
Itzen:
"Well,
unless i go with him, he probably will drop it... you know, close
to it, somewhere..." a nod, "A smart animal but not nearly like
your fox."
Ra'ven hmms, "I mean if you'd like to.
I mean I have ran across people trying to be mean and you are far
from it..."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Not
mean, just a bit of a social fuckup. But what's new, right?" She
smiles. "Cost of a beer ain't much, even for me. Don't worry about
it. If nothing else, it'll make *me* worry less.
Ra'ven nods, "Plus to do that you have
to survive still as wll."
Ra'ven:
"But
apperently the rune is locked, which isn't a big problem for me,
but it's also on the roof, which might make it a bit hard for
someone else to get to it or sneak it away?"
Io:
"Hmmph.
Well, I can hardly hold all the world's creatures to the standards
of my own creations. Your beast is a worthy companion,
nevertheless." They pause for a moment. "Errm.... if climbing is
out of the question, I'm capable of flying that far myself. Once
there, I could probably get the box open without too much trouble.
One of my breath weapons is quite handy for situations like this.
I don't know what I'd do with it afterwards, though."
Ra'ven nods, "If you want to come with
that might be helpful too, I just don't want to have you get into
the fly in and get shot by a balasta situation twice in the same
darkness."

Io:
"Thus
I will do my best as well. Tell me when you wish me to fly up."
Ra'ven looks to Itzen and Kaylen,
"Say, is there anything in particular I should be wary of messing
with this rune?"
Kaylen Fisher:
"I
mean... I haven't seen it. It's not a rune MAZE; there are a bunch
of different configurations for that kind of thing, instead of
just one, perfect form." She looks uncomfortable. "Don't want to
be insulting to your home or anything, Lucky, but a rune that
doesn't just prevent teleportation, but is also explosive would be
pretty on-brand for Adhikaar. You folks don't let people get away
with shit."
Ra'ven:
"Knowing
how stuff works is more Vul's thing and I'm pretty sure he's just
making it up sometimes."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Hey!
I know all sorts of things about how stuff works. I mean, probably
not Sera-level, but I can hold my own. I just don't know how THIS
works without looking at it."
Lucky shrugs. "Insult it all you want,
I just live here. Just don't insult the bar. Then we'd have
problems."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Oh,
hell no. Why would I insult your bar? Your bar is awesome."
Lucky puffs up a bit at that, and
smiles proudly.
Pell:
"Oh
gods, don't feed her ego," Pell laughs quietly.
Kaylen Fisher:
"Eh,
it doesn't seem like her ego is particularly fat. I think she'll
be okay."
Itzen wonders if she can quickly
sketch a simple "Likely to blow up" rune gide
Pell:
"You
don't know her well enough, then."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Ok,
yeah, admittedly you've known her a lot longer. AND I am a
notoriously poor judge of character."
Itzen:
"I
would hope they wouldn't make it particularly easy to explode, as
that'd be a bit offputing to have above a prision, let alone put a
rather large amount of stress on the maintainer."
Io:
"Our
comedy troupe. Finding laughter even while on a stealth mission."
They eye Itzen skeptically. "Mm. And do all jailers care so much
for the health of their prisoners? I do not say you are wrong, but
it is up to you whether we can trust our lives to the idea."
Itzen:
"No
but it tends to requirer jailers to care about their guards and
staff a well..." she sighs
Pell:
"Having
an explosive device in the prison seems like a good way to
facilitate an escape."
Io:
"Half
of me agrees. Half of me can't help but think that if everyone
blew up, I'd not have to pay the guards, or staff, or worry about
an escape. But no, you're probably right."
Itzen:
"It's
a level of maliciousness towards one's employees that I am
uncomfortable with," she sighs, "But ignoring that possibility
would make me like them."
Itzen:
Io:
"...You
are not familiar with the world before this one, so it cannot be
helped, but you should understand that half of me is more than
malicious enough for that."
Itzen doesn't do well on her 'quickly
remember what things that blow up might look like and commit them
to paper, or the like' check
Io:
"And
thus that level of malice is quite easy for me to imagine."

The top of the cell block is mostly level, with sluiceways gut into the
stone to drain water. In the center of the roof is a large, flat box
made of the same stone as the rest. The only way you can tell that it's
a box at all, in fact, is that four heavy locks secure the hinge-less
lid in place, nearly flush with each other. Unfortunately, once you test
them, it becomes clear that the locks are of exceptionally high quality,
probably Mekanice-built. Every time you move your lockpick to a new
tumbler, it's like something inside the lock clicks over, and resets.
(Thievery check failed, sadly.)

Io jumps quickly into the air, flying
up to the roof. The movement is not especially graceful, and to
their credit they seem to be fairly embarrassed by the faint
scrabbling sound of their claws on the roof's surface, and avoids
looking you in the eye. Instead, they move close to the box, and
after shooing you out of the way, begins to breathe on it. At
first you're not sure exactly what you're seeing, but after a
couple of heavy exhalations, sounding no more thunderous than one
would think a breath would sound, the stone box, hinges and all,
begins to flake away, particles streaming off it into the dark. Io
continues to work at it, and soon there is little left aside from
crumbled bits and dust. Amidst the debris is a carved granite
slab, about a foot square, and perhaps thirty pounds in weight,
with a complex glyph carved into it. Io shrugs, still not totally
willing to look at you. "Ahem. What to do with it is up to you."

There is a close call with a second Big Rat, but he's clearly not
looking for infiltrators so much as escapees. He passes by, apparently
satisfied by the fact that none of the cells are open, and nobody is
running. It's a bit lax, but you suppose that considering the high walls
and guards at the actual entrances, it normally wouldn't matter. You're
able to tap on the bars of two cells, which Itzen is able to see are
occupied by cult members. Thankfully, neither is silly enough to call
out, and instead simply teleport out as soon as you indicate that they
can. The rune seems to already be beyond range. The eladrin and

By simply cutting across, and leaving the other two prisoners near the
mineshaft, you're able to quickly get to the other end of the yard
without any real risk. The problem happens once you get there. After
quickly looking inside, you're able to confirm that none of those cells
are currently occupied by the cultists. Two cells, however, are empty
entirely. Given the fact that the other cells you've seen have been
fully occupied, it's possible that your targets were here until recently.
Eileen:
"So
much for easy..."
=^v^=:
(( any idea how recently? ))
Lucky:
"Shit."
Kaylen Fisher:
(Perception
check?)
Itzen frowns, "Perhaps the comrades we
have half rescued have insight on where they would be moved to?"
Itzen:
Lucky:
Pell:
Riot:
(( lmao ))
Eileen:
Io:
Io is a bloodhound (dragon)
Several of you spot traces of food; bread with some kind of dark sauce,
roughly scattered on the floor of the cell. Despite the general lack of
cleanliness in the area, the food seems mostly unspoiled and lacking in
insects. It can't have been sitting there for more than a day or so.
Kaylen Fisher:
"Dammit.
Uh, so that's not so bad, right? I mean, less time for something
bad to have happened, at least."
Itzen:
"Not
exaclty encouraging given that they have pending death sentances
unless they explain the orb correctly."
Pell:
"Maybe.
Given the circumstances, I don't have a lot of faith."
Riot:
(( that was to Kaylen ))
Kaylen Fisher:
"Fuck.
Let's at least ask those other two."
Kaylen Fisher:
((I
got it.
)
back in the pit, the two cultists exchange worried glances.
Riot:
(( brb again, apparently doggaroni
wasn't done ))
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
"We
weren't allowed to see them, you understand. WE weren't even
allowed to leave our cells. Privileges of the teleporter. But we
did hear things. The Rats, they would taunt us sometimes." She
pauses. "They said that they'd gotten sick. Or possibly poisoned,
though I'm not sure who would do that. But they said our friends
were getting worse. That this was why they weren't in the mines in
the first place, and that if they didn't turn around soon, they'd
just be taken off to be publicly hanged, so that the authorities
could at least get some use out of them." She sighs. "There is
real beautry and strength in this city, but only for those who can
defend what they have. A weak criminal is just a resource to be
used."
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(Sad.)
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
"If
they've already been taken... well, you'd probably have heard if
they'd been executed. But I don't know where they would be. Maybe
the warden would know?"
Itzen:
"At
least the need for the public spectical works in our favor."
Kaylen Fisher:
"Agreed.
Look, we can't afford to search for them up here right now, but
maybe we can figure something out while we're down there.
Hopefully they'll announce the execution, and we can show up to
ambush them or something."
Riot:
(( back ))
=^v^=:
(( didn't our mysterious teleproter
guy say they were poisoned? ))
Ra'ven looks both ways and leans over
to the cultist, "What's the deal with that guy with the glowy eyes
and sweet words that was in with you?"
Kaylen Fisher:
(I
can't remember the specific words I used.)
Eladrin Cultist 's face freezes. "You
spoke to Chrysoberyl? He didn't hurt you, right?"
Lucky:
"No.
Was that a concern?"
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
"Two
days ago, a Big Rat tried to taunt him like like they would taunt
us" She pauses. "...He told the Rat to bash its own head in on the
wall. And it just did it."
Io:
"No..."
Ra'ven:
"Hmm,
still could be demon or fey..."
Lucky:
"Huh.
No, nothing like that when we talked to him. He said some cryptic
shit and asked me some questions I didn't answer, but it just felt
creepy, not... whatever
that
is."
Ra'ven:
"Well,
devil. Wouldn't think a demon would bother with that."
Io closes their eyes. "Neither devil
nor fey, I'm afraid. Arguably much worse."
Ra'ven tilts her head, "Oh? Odd you'd
know them?"
Io:
"Remember
what I said before we descended? I believe that I have foolishly
aided you in freeing a Green Dragon."
Ra'ven:
"Oh!
Dang I should have given him a gem."
Lucky:
"If
he could influence them like that, why was he even here? He
could've told one of them to free him at any time."
Ra'ven:
"Cause
he was put here, so can't really teleport, also in a cell, so
probably problematic for purposes of being a big dragon, plus
there is the rather large amount of balastas..."
Ra'ven:
"Also
they sorta live long so that makes sense he'd be all happy that a
break came eventually."
Lucky:
"No
wonder he was so helpful about the teleportation blocker."
Ra'ven:
"I
mean anyone would be..."
Lucky:
"I
mean anyone who can teleport, yeah."
Io:
"He
would have thanked you, and the words would have meant nothing
except another hook to place in you." They shake their head.
"That's a question I can't answer, and you can believe it will eat
at me. Perhaps there are limits. We are certainly missing
something. Green dragons are nearly without equal when it comes to
the manipulation of the minds of others, but they are not
invincible. They can be tricked, and even bound. Perhaps it was
unable to forcefully effect its own escape. Or perhaps it had some
other scheme in play that we can't see the whole of with our
limited information. But I sensed a dragon here, and then I'm told
of a being in captivity that can control other to that degree. The
connection does not seem difficult to make."
Eladrin Cultist:
"I'm
just glad that neither of us ever decided to make him angry."
Ra'ven:
"i
mean that's just good sense, no particular good use for doing that
to someone."
Ra'ven:
"Unless
you are fighting them maybe"
Eladrin Cultist:
"Even
if he didn't do anything about it then, I don't know that Garmera
has given me enough of her Greater Gift to trust that he wouldn't
hunt me down later, out of spite."
Eladrin Cultist:
"I'm
not enough of a warrior to fight one of those off."
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
"Hopefully
we'll be able to find and rescue them later, but they wouldn't
want us to stop and get caught just because we were worried about
them. Hopefully the others are still below."
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(derp,
no referent)
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(My
bad.)
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
Forgot
to say "I'm still worried about our friends, but..."
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(derp.)
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(Sigh.
Thinking it is like writing it, right?)
=^v^=:
(( yes ))
Shadar-Kai Cultist:
(That's
why I've written like twelve novels.)
Ra'ven:
"Vul
will be jellous if it was a dragon..." a nod, "And maybe they are
a bit more mellow nowadays, since your time was a looong time ago
right?" to Io
Io:
"Far,
far too long." They are silent for a long moment. "I wanted to say
that my children do not change their natures so easily. But I
never before imagined that they would be without me for such a
span of time. In the fullness of these ages, in which I myself
nearly succumbed to time... can truly say that anything is
permanent?"
Io:
((I
think that we gonna have to be done tonight.))
=^v^=:
(( it IS 10pm ))
Io:
((But
I'm super glad that we got to continue!))
=^v^=:
(( for everyone since we are all west
coasties now ))
Io:
((Woot
best coast.))
Riot:
(( tbf we were already all same time
zone lol ))
Riot:
(( but yeah all PNW now ))
Io:
((I
don't have to make sense to know that this is the best coast,
RIOT. But seriously, looking forward to playing again soon!
Feeling weirdly good about it.))
Io:
You
folks are awesome.
Io:
So
night!
