(To be fair, I'd likely not have remembered who either way. That being
said...) Patience, Hector, and Yltheria remain in the lounge, where
Perra and Vul unveiled their find from the Ruby Palace. Tyellenthi and
Kaylen continue to follow behind Ra'ven and company, while Io lies
curled up in a comfy chair near the center. Abner is there as well,
laying out intricately arranged foodstuffs on silver plates. For someone
who was, apparently, a pirate chef, his creations have a pretty intense
haute cuisine flair, and he frankly looks pleased as anything to be
serving them. "Mmm. Seared ven with a sixleaf salad and erldberry
compote." He looks over at the new entrants, grinning hard enough that
his face nearly seems to vanish amongst the tremendoust number of
wrinkles and laugh lines.

Hector Achilon:
(Ok.
I will assume that Ra'ven did just walk in, though, lol. In which
case, he's talking with her, etc.)
Hector Achilon:
"A
bit. It's a damned unpleasant thing, touching a soul that has been
affected by infernal forces. Ugh. I don't know how much you know
about how souls work, but..." He shakes his head. "Sorry. Those
are just oily thought, and right before food too. What do you need
me to look at?"
Ra'ven:
"I
appear to be.. err... sorta enamomred? With that devil who we all
shoudl hate. And it's not like she's my type either?" She looks
rather uncomfortable about it.
Ra'ven:
"If
I think about the deeds, I hate then, if I think about her it
drastically shifts. This seems.. suspicoius right?"
Hector Achilon:
(hold,
sorry. many apologies)
Hector Achilon:
"Hmm.
Well, I can't lie, it's not a great sign. Desires and feelings
that fly in the face of what your experience tells you that you
should have can sometimes be a natural result of being a
complicated animal. However, it can also be a result of external
influence. Hrm. The metaphors are great at this point, but if you
turn a few dials on a soul when those dials aren't supposed to be
turned, your soul can rebel against it. Whatever thought or
emotion was altered, it'll feel REAL, but not really like YOURS,
if you get my meaning. At least, if the enchantment is inexpert.
And if it's based on those principles. And hasn't been reinforced
enough to become your own thoughts in truth. A lot of caveats
here." He narrows his eyes as he looks at you. "Well, I told you
before, when we met, that your apertures were unusual. Most people
don't have a Zoic and Thanic aperture both, but you do. And to be
completely honest, your Zoic aperture is a bit sulphury. I can
tell you, though, that if that's an enchantment, it's not new."
Ra'ven frowns, "That... sounds bad
right?"
Hector Achilon:
"Could
be, yes. But fact is, your appearance has some fiendish bit on it,
and has from the start. I don't judge based on your appearance, or
whatever you have in your blood. But sometimes magic does care
about your blood, picky bastard that it is, and this infernal
quality of yours... well, it might be nothing more than an
ancestor four or five generations back. Nothing I'm sensing from
here is particularly strong. And if it's just in your blood...
well, that's not indicative of much at all. About half the
tieflings I've met have a similar tinge... though most don't also
have a thanic aperture as well. So you're still special."
Hector Achilon:
"Now,
I can go looking deeper, if you want, but remember who I am, and
the powers I use. I'll be prying up the edge of your spirit to see
what's underneath, and that means I will be coming at you from the
direction of the Gate. Touching your mind from the other side of
death. It's going to be uncomfortable, maybe even painful, and I
guarantee that you'll remember things you'll wish you didn't. I'm
willing to try, but I'm not an expert on the diabolic. Certainly
not a specialist. If you want to be sure, there are better people
for it here in the city."
Ra'ven:
"Somewhat
sound like not a thing that gets cured, huh..."
Hector Achilon:
"Like
I said, it depends on what it is. If it's an enchantment, I might
be able to break it. But if it's an intrinsic part of you, trying
to cure it will fundamentally change who you are. That's not
something I'd do lightly. I'd think about it, at the very least.
And I wouldn't have the power to change you like that anyway.
There are options, though, if you're willing to look for them." He
stops. "Er, but this is hypothetical. We don't actually know,
other than that there is some kind of connection. The nature of
it, or the reason... I don't know right now."
Ra'ven:
"But
I'm not possessed or the like then?"
Hector Achilon:
"I'd
say no, unless you were posessed when we first met. I don't sense
anything different now compared to then."
Ra'ven:
"One
who's an expert on the diabolic and also trustworthy and also not
going to do something drastic if it turns out to be a problem
sounds hard to find..."
Hector Achilon:
"Maybe.
There's a priest in the city that owes me a favor... She's a
servant of The Weeping Sky's Righteousness. Anything celestial,
astral, or infernal, and she'll ferret it out. Lost track of her a
while back, though. I doubt she'll have left, so it would just be
a matter of finding her trail again."
Ra'ven:
"I...
don't really know who my birth parents are... I suspect that's for
the best given I don't remember and normal people do so I likely
don't want to dig past tragedies right?"
Hector Achilon:
"If
you don't want to dig up past tragedies, I'm not your man, sorry.
Both of those words are thinked pretty strongly with what I do.
Best find her instead, if you want to pursue this. I'll put the
word out, if you'd like. I have a lot of acquaintances among the
priestly community here. Since the Order of the Silent Gate was
devastated, I've made friends from a lot of different
philosophies. Everyone needs a network. I'm sure someone will have
seen her."
Ra'ven nods
Ra'ven:
"Also
might warn her as well, since I'm guessing 'knowing a lot about
the infernal' might get a bit dangerous soon... well... earlier
then now probably..."
Hector Achilon:
"But
as far as your knowledge of your own past... I can't advise you
there. Some people..." He pauses. "...Some people have reasons for
not remembering, and sometimes it can be dangerous to try to fix
it. That would have to be your own decision, again." His eyes
widen. "Huh. Well, I really didn't think about that. Shit. She's
just the kind who might piss them off, too. A real crusader. Ok,
do you need me? Because if not, I'm going to go try to send a
message."
Ra'ven hmms, "I... not more then your
friend likely? Sera seems upset but solice can be found in friends
as well...?"
Hector Achilon:
"I
checked on Sera just before you came back, actually. She'll be ok,
I think, but you'll have to ask her if you want the specifics."
Ra'ven laughs weakly, "I mean, I
suppose if she like actually did this to me when we met just
now... She would have used it against me in those fights too?"
Hector Achilon:
"Depends
on how far her plans go, right? Without knowing exactly what she
wants, it's hard to say why she might do anything at all. Look, I
need to send this. O
Hector Achilon:
"I'm
sorry to run out like this; you just reminded me of something I
should have remembered to do by myself."
Ra'ven:
"Well,
glad to help.." she says not entirely mirthlessly
Hector Achilon quickly runs out, heavy
armor clanking. "I'll ask her about your issue too!"
=^v^=:
(( kay ))
Io yawns. "So then. Ra'ven, a quick
and pertinent question, since Hector is too politic to mention it:
If it turns out that you have been influenced by the powers of
Hell... or of the Iron Empire, whichever home these energies now
claim... and we are unable to find a solution, what would you have
us do?" They look at you, very serious. "Would you have us end the
threat? Restrain you? Exile you? And at what point?" They pause.
"...Before my own imprisonment, before I was rejoined, I should
have asked to be restrained. If I had, perhaps I would not have
caused so much destruction in my madness, and abused Tyellenthi's
loyalty in such a way."
Ra'ven frowns, "I... sorta tried exile
but it turns out I do need things..."
Ra'ven:
"Also
Vul followed me..."
Eileen:
"Vu
seems a bit preocupied with someone else as of late..."
Lucky:
"Who,
Perra?"
Eileen nods
Io 's voice is gentle. "Ra'ven,
forgive me... but you did not seek exile. You sought to run, and
trade one location for another. If you had truly sought exile, you
would not have been traveling on skyships so this city. You would
be in a remote place where you could not hurt others. Seeking
exile is not a small thing, and does not leave you with the life
you once had, at the end."
Lucky cocks an eyebrow, "Huh."
Ra'ven frowns, "So an exile from
everywhere, instead of just where I was... I did give up my way of
life and my home....."
Abner looks up. "Ho? What's this, eh?
Sommat about the white lady? I admit, bit of fiend for gossip,
hey?"
Eileen:
"Notmuch
to gossip about really, just Vul's been spending nearly all his
free time with her. Holds her hand a lot to..."
Ra'ven rases an eyebrow, "Oh he is?"
she gives a giggle, "Well, she is pretty and a dragon and a
princess..."
Io:
"I do
not seek to insult you, Ra'ven. But I do believe that there is a
difference between chosing to live somewhere else, and to live in
such a way as to protect others from you. I do not believe you
have done the second, but I do not judge you for this. You see, I
don't believe it was necessary, and only a fool chooses such a
fate unless it is prudent. You remained free, and I will wager
that you have done all the more good for it."
Abner:
"Oooh,
now issat somethin. Her Da' would come kill the boy if he heard,
no doubt. But he'd lock 'er up too, so it's best all around that
he don't learn."
Abner:
"Ready
promised 'er na to come to him 'bout her. Ain't gon break that
just for a juicy tidbit, hey?"
Ra'ven:
"I
mean she ran away anyways right?"
Eileen nods
Ra'ven:
"It's
not like Vul swooped into a tall tower and absconded with her,
which he would entirely do."
Vul sneases
Abner:
"Ehhhh...
Don' trust that her old man wouldn't take measures ifn he knew
where to find her, though."
Abner:
"She's
an embarrassment, that one. Free, she can bring shame to th'family
any time. Best keep her where they can watch, ya?"
Ra'ven hmms, "Isn't Perra's hand
somewhat prone to freezing you?"
Abner looks like he's about to spit,
but catches himself. Probably a good move, considering his
artfully displayed food close at hand.
Abner:
"Oi,
is a clever kit, aren't you? We'll see if her da like your
wordplay too. 'Course, he might not be scared off by puns, and
instead use mercs, drugs, and chains, which ain't so easy to
dispense with."
Eileen:
"Not
just her hand, her skin and scales feel as cold as ice. She hides
it... but if she stands around in one spot to long frost actually
starts forming on the ground around her feet."

"I can

White. She is *strong.* Whether by chance or design, her
connection to that blood is as strong as anything I've seen over
the course of my life. In time, winter itself might bow to her.
She has no need to bow to her father, unless he forces the issue.
And should he try, I propose we resist. I do not respect the
cultural...perversion... that leads to his opinions about Perra."

Eileen nods to Io, "I agree."

Ra'ven:

Ra'ven:
"I
mean I had that, but also it wasn't the family I was born with..."
Kris:
"Bit
easier to walk away from that."
Ra'ven:
"It's
sorta hard to tell though, since you don't get to know paths you
didn't take..."
Kris:
"True
enough."
Abner:
"Tis?
Sure there're many runaways who'd appreciate being made a
princess, but no sure how many'd take the other deal. Better to
have the choice, in my mind at least. But then, I didn' have much
more choice than her, come to it, so what would I know?"
=^v^=:
(( abner has food right? ))
Abner:
((He
does.))
Vul enters! Posibly with Perra in tow,
since food.
Abner:
"Oh,
oi. You two, some tell was that you might need, ahem, a little
warmth, so hopefully the ven will help. Got some spicewine for
heatin' too, if you need it."
Io chuckles softly.
Vul:
"Ah,
Abner! It still remains almost as shocking as finding Io and
Tyellenthi on that island that we found a cook there too."
Perra probably brings Yltheria back as
well sense they were together.
Perra does eye up the food, "It looks
good."
Riot:
(( lol speaking of food, all of a
sudden heard what sounded like all of the water in my instant pot
blasting out everywhere in the kitchen. Luckily it was just venting
because pasta with too much water will fill the pressure release with
pasta water and make it freak out lol ))
=^v^=:
(( instant pot not exploding=good ))
Abner:
"Got
there a mite after they did... but it were weirder that you showed
up, after so many years. I'd been living with the mushroom men for
years before that, and we all went there in the first place 'cause
it's a good hideaway. Well, 'side from the fungus an' the
imprisoned entities."
Lucky eyes Vul curiously, clearly
piqued by the way he's speaking.
Vul for his part, is a well-known
lover of food
Yltheria takes a plate, and begins to
examine it thoroughly, toppling Abner's careful plating in order
to separate the ingredients as much as possible.
Perra chuckles a bit at that
Riot:
(( Vul's last statement reads like it
was from a posh british guy lol ))
Yltheria:
(Yeah,
don't splode, mr pot! Instant pots are great.)
Ganaroth:
(Quite,
quite, my dear fellow.)
=^v^=:
(( to be fair, both Vul and Ra'ven
speak with a somewhat off accent, since they more or less speak elven
natively ))
vonel:
(( yeah we can never keep the damn
things in stock and then get yelled at by people who insist that the
website says we have them ))
Riot:
(( yeah but I don't think I've ever
read anything Vul said as posh as that statement was ))
=^v^=:
(( ABNER MY GOOD CHUM! ))
Riot:
(( MY GOOD FELLOW ))
Vul would 100% rock a decrative pipe
Ganaroth:
(I
like it, lol. I know that I have headcanon accents and ways of
speaking for most of my people.)
=^v^=:
(( probably not a cane tho ))
Ganaroth:
((I
think my namesake character is still the only one for whom I've
invented an accent out of whole cloth, though.))
=^v^=:
(( though I guess actually Ra'ven has
a slightly DIFFERENT accent, in that she has infernal language
inflections in some of her common as well, mostly just makes certain
words and concepts seem a bit more sininster then she intends ))
Ganaroth:
(I
imagine that adding a dash of infernal does that, sorta like how
you add french for romance, latin for academia, or italian for
pasta.
)
Ganaroth:
(Apologies
to any italians. A joke only.)
=^v^=:
(( plus she has huge intimidate score
I think anyways ))
Ganaroth:
((Cha
monk, so makes sense.))
=^v^=:
(( like, +19 xP ))
Ganaroth:
((That's
scary.))
=^v^=:
(( 21 vs wolves ))
Ganaroth:
((Man,
no wonder those cultists didn't want to mess with you.))
=^v^=:
(( she does have an air about being
some scary werewolf leader or something, a fib playing into her
strengths ))
Vul noms foods
Perra has some food as well
Lucky also grabs a plate and doubles
up on everything available. "Thanks Abner, looks amazing!"
Abner:
"Oh,
your one makin me blush, hey? Better ingredients here than on a
pirate cutter, so I thought I'd be creative. No much call for fine
dinin of any kind, let alone creative display, on such a ship."
Eileen chills to one side while
everone else eats.
Abner:
"Not
that I minded doing what's needed for the crew, in particular. But
I kent lie; I missed the dainty bits during my sailing."
Ra'ven sits down and humphs across the
table to Vul, "Well, you may have gotten an undead cheff, a dragon
and an ancient... err... Tyellenthi, but I at least found a
princess, a singular warrior of a whole village and an ancient
general..."
Vul smirks, "You forgot both a barkeep
and someone with a mansion."
Io:
"All
reasonably impressive, from princesses to barkeeps."
Perra sighs at being called a princess
again, but has clearly given up trying to correct people.
Io:
"...And
while Tyellenthi is not here to say so, and though she despises
me, I should render her aid, and remind you that her kind were, or
are, called the Aasimon."
Vul nods, "Plus I
did
find
a princess. I just... err... didn't bring her..." he trails off.
Eileen:
"Your
just a princess magnet arn't you?"
Vul:
"That's
the same number of princess as people who are older then this city
though... I mean... are they dreadfully uncommon?"
Lucky looks up between bites, "Wait,
what princess did
you
find?"
Io:
"Perhaps
for the best? Most princesses I've known did not do well in such
rigorous environments. That holds true for the general population
as well, though. Perra, though noble, is an exception among many
exceptions."
Perra blushes a bit at Io's comment,
"Oh...thank you."
Vul:
"I
mean Valaxious is an elven princess and she was in an ice cave
alone...." he nods.
Lucky:
"Oh,
before my time then." She points the fork at Vul as if putting a
period at the end of her sentence, before going back to eating.
Vul:
"Err,
before I met you all, ya?"
Vul:
"But
after I parted with Ra'ven, so it should count?"
Abner:
"Mentioned
her before, I think. Still not clear on why you left her there."
He nods. "Oi now, doublehands. My whole life is before your time.
Na allowed to talk about anything around you?" He smiles, clearly
enjoying himself.
Vul:
"Oh,
she sent me on a quest."
Lucky looks back up, mouth full and
face clearly confused, "I just meant that's why I didn't remember
any princess."
Abner:
"Ne'er
mind, hey? Jest talkin with all. Makin' a joke at m'expense, on
account of me being varrry old, and you being party young. Good
ked."
Io:
"Vul,
you spoke words of interest to me just now."
Vul feins hurt, "Just now... not in
general..."
Io leans into the mock insult.
"Indeed... you being a complete bore who has never helped me in
any way. What could I possibly want to know about you IN GENERAL?
No, just the part about the quest will be sufficient."
Vul:
"...oh..."
he says a bit meekly, "Err... well..." he glances at Ra'ven and
looks away, "To... um..." he looks confllicted, "... save my
sister?"
Io:
"Do
you feel you've succeeded?"
Ra'ven:
"Vul,
I'm fine..."
Vul sighs, "No."
=^v^=:
(( though for funzies ))
Sera:
"Save
her from what?"
Vul:
=^v^=:
(( for anyone to have a more informed
guess at why vul was acting like the save part was a lie or something ))
Sera walks in, beer in hand, and sits
down beside Lucky, sliding the beer over to her. She whispers,
"Sorry," and then turns back to Vul.
Vul:
"That's
the problem, isn't it?"
Io:
"That
is the question, is it not? Why was this princess of yours
convinced that Ra'ven needed saving, when to her own estimation,
and certainly to my first glance, she seems perfectly healthy."
Lucky:
=^v^=:
(( basically anyone beating it would
perhaps realize that Vul would
normally
say stuff like quests in
emphasized and clear ways instead of all muddly like he did ))
Lucky:
"What's
the deal, bud?"
Vul:
"I
mean... cause I thought she did..."
Vul:
"I
did leave home to find her..."
Ra'ven:
"Ya,
and you didn't need to do that at all, Vul..."
Vul humphs, "I promised I would
though. At least chase after you."
Io:
"A
mistake on your part, or on that of Valaxious? Did she speak false
to you, or did you merely misinterpret her words in a way that you
were already inclined?"
Vul:
"Neither
of us could know how she was doing right?"
Vul:
"That
was the point..."
Vul hods up his hand to show his
dragon-shapped ring, "She gave this to me to correct that problem
with her. I think she was teasing me."
Perra looks over at the ring
=^v^=:
(( it looks like a white dragon with
wings folded wrapped around a finger, though somehow made of bone. ))
Io:
"As
one who has done their fair share of it, I find that somewhat
manipulative. Neither of you could know, but she COULD know what
affect her words would have on you." He sniffs. "Perhaps if it
were merely a joke, but even then she should have stopped you
before you took such a drastic step." They pause. "...Though it
does occur to me that you would not then have been able to help
free me."
Lucky:
"Wait,
what is the ring supposed to do? I'm lost."
=^v^=:
(( also vul has always had it on,
though sometimes under gloves ))
Vul:
"Oh,
if I concentrate I can know if she's okay."
Io:
"And
she you?"
Vul:
"Also
if I concentrate harder, I can point towards her."
Vul:
"I
mean she has a different one that does, ya."
Io:
"Of
course. A trove of gifts and advice, your elven princess in her
ice cave. With a name that is... not elven."
Vul nods, "It's draconic! She rather
likes dragons like I do."
Vul:
"That's
why my ring is a dragon and hers is a fox. She said it'd be
unfitting to have an elf shaped ring."
Io:
"Well,
there is much to like. And you humanoids are far too squeamish
about putting your image on useful items. Why should it be an
insult for the beauty of your form to be celebrated so? I shall
put away other questions for the moment, and simply commend
Valaxious's taste... however she acquired it."
Vul tilts his head, "Well, I like
clothes you know? Even though I'm a fox..."
Io:
"You
are a fox among other things, yes."
Lucky:
"Hold
up a sec. Io said something. This person is an elven princess...
in an ice cave... handing out gifts... with a name that is very
much not elven."
Vul:
"I
mean even you who's impresive as you are would look more regal
with crimson or ivory vambraces and maybe a gemed crown.
Lucky:
"That
feels a bit... weird, right?"
Vul tilts his head, "That's fairly
common in stories isn't it?"
Io:
"Capable
of following the tracks, are you, tracker?"
Vul:
"I
mean, I did save her by making food."
Vul looks a bid sad, "... not that
heroic..."
Lucky:
"Common
in stories is not the same as common in real life. And I'm not
sure anything like that has happened in any of the stories I've
read."
Ra'ven:
o.0
Ra'ven:
"Wait,
stories aren't common?"
Lucky glares at Vul, "Do you think
you're not heroic? Because there's a number of people in this room
who are still alive because of you."
Io:
"There
was once a proverb concerning my kind and a broken blade in the
claw. Small kindnesses can mean everything, Vul."
Lucky turns to Ra'ven, "What? Stories
are common but what happens in them isn't actually common in real
life, in my experience."
Ra'ven:
"Where
we came from everything was about stories..."
Vul nods to Io, "Yes, it's a good deed
and all, but it's not a heroic one. Different stories..."
Abner:
"Real
concept, that. Me too, s'pose, 'cept the story's name was "coin.""
Vul:
"Smashing
chains with a hammer is heroic. Rewriting one's tale with a magic
artifact is... well... I mean it seemed heroic? I don't think
there are many stories about changing the story...."
Lucky:
"I'm
not a stranger to stories. When I was a kid, my parents used to
tell me stories of an adventurer, who..." She winces, and rubs her
temples. "Stories are just stories, is what I mean."
Vul:
"Except
when they aren't, like with Io and Tyellenthi..."
Lucky:
"Regardless.
I'm just curious about the not-elven elf princess in the ice cave."
Io:
"I
might argue that most stories are about changing the story, except
those which are simply bleak inevitability." Io grins toothily. "I
like tales of adventurers, Lucky. A bit self-gratifying, in a way,
but the key word is gratifying."
Ra'ven:
"Plus,
stories are going to be a bit more important soon with that Argent
coming."
Lucky looks at Io, slightly confused,
"I... I don't know any. Sorry."
Vul points to Io, "Which is why yours
is going to be awesome, because it's going to be changing
bleakness into hope."
Io:
"Is
that so, concerning this upcoming cycle, and its effect on
stories? I'm not yet familiar with your world's cycles. I'll be
interested to see it, then." They are silent for a long moment at
Vul's comment. "...I have nothing that I can offer you that is of
equal value to that compliment."
Io:
((It
is 10 and some. I just sorta meandered around tonight, obviously.
Well, my life isn't falling apart at the current moment, and I'm
even taking some steps to improve my overall mental well-being, so
hopefully I'll be begging off a bit less in the future, to make it
up to you. Though there was some fun character stuff.))
Vul nods, "You created all the dragons
in the word, of which endless tailes have been told. It's just
that you'd have such a tale in return."
=^v^=:
(( also ))
=^v^=:
(( as an aside but as a pre-aside ))
Io:
((And
over it I will preside.))
=^v^=:
(( is there any objections to trying
to dnd on sat the 23th instead of sunday that week? ))
Riot:
(( fine by me ))
Io:
(Sounds
good.)
=^v^=:
(( xmas eve is sorta a thing I might
wanna duck out for is all ))
Riot:
(( that's fair ))
Io:
I do
not expect anyone on christmas eve.
Vul:
hense
me suggesting maybe that sat
Io:
And me
agreeing.
Perra:
i've
no problems with it
Vul:
xmas
day eve would actually be open for me xP
Io:
yeah,
that wouldn't work here.
Vul:
it's
like, xmas even and newyears are the only 'nights' where I sorta
wouldn't just play gaem
=^v^=:
(( although newyears is up in the air
if I would ))
Io:
There
is no way that my family isn't going to try to grab me, since I
caved on thanksgiving... but on the plus side, there will be
different people there. My aunt Shinobu makes seriously delicious
sushi and lumpia for these events, so I can't mind too much.
=^v^=:
(( my extended family situation is
sorta lame and my immediate one is really flexable on basically every
other thing, but I like to swing by on xmas eve and day ))
Io:
Anyway...
thank you, all. You're all pretty awesome. See you later!
Perra:
later
Vul:
I'll
try to fix gaem to actually allow power adding
Vul:
also
fwiw I did write a long-form version of that princess meeting vul
that I probably will post at some point
