the

Kris:
I'm
thinking about calling out on Saturday so I can have a five day
weekend.
Ra'ven:
wherein
someone takes literally any story from the bible and replaces it
with "Flordia man"

Ra'ven:
"Flordia

a five day weekend? Nice

Ganaroth:
Well,
kids shouldn't mock bald dudes. That seems obvious.

Ra'ven:

Ganaroth:
Noice.
Get you that weekend.
Ra'ven:
let
us not forget what book was about god fucking with a guy to prove
a point to the devil
Ganaroth:
We
should be completely fair, and note that the actual infliction of
suffering on Job was at the hands of the angel called Satan (who
may or may not be the same character as Lucifer; it's been
interpreted multiple ways.) Technically speaking, God in that
story merely gave permission. And if anyone tries to tell me that
therefore God isn't responsible for it, they can go fuck
themselves. If it costs you nothing to prevent suffering and you
elect not to, you're being an asshole.

Ganaroth:
It
goes ok. I'm not as tired as I was last time, although I'm still
recovering a bit. Last week was just wild when it came to sleep,

Kris:
Also
the president of fred meyer is a wanker, he walked in to our store
and took a look around and went, "I hate the way everything looks
I want you to chanage it all." and we were like, "But this is how
you guys at corporate told us how to make it look." "Well I
personally hate it, so change everything."

stress how much that kind of situation does not amuse me.

Ganaroth:
I
keep trying to think of a good way to put it, sorry. I guess I'm
just wishing you the best outcome, offering my own disapproval of
them for leaving you out to dry, and then gertting angry that our
world incentivizes that. Likewise, I'm very sorry that corporate
is dicking you around, Von. Shitty all around.
Anyway, last time on D&D your group and the Vayak's chapter of the
Silverfang cult met in mock battle, but were interrupted near the end by
the reappearance of Jydith and a few Iron Empire troops. She gave a loud
speech about being allied to the Emir, and then vanished, leaving the
rest of you to continue your battle. The intruders were repelled, and
the remaining cultists escaped aboard their rickety skyship, leaving you
and the hostages behind.
Ra'ven starts to take off, but loops
back around, speeding up to Yith, "Riiight... You alright?" pointy
sorta-wolf-but-not asks slightly sounding sinister despite herself
Yltheria looks at you, then walks up
to you. "I'm not hurt badly. A couple of bruises, but they are not
your fault. Am I allowed to pet you? I can understand if you don't
like it, but you just look very cool. I can try not to poke myself
on your spikes."
Ra'ven:
"Er,
sure if you'd like, and it's... well, it probably is my fault.
This sort of thing keeps happening to those around me."
Lucky sideeyes Ra'ven, "What, exactly,
do you mean?"
Yltheria looks at you curiously as
well.
Yltheria walks over to you, and begins
petting you on the head while listening to your answer.
Ra'ven:
"Bad
things happen? Getting hurt, several fires, I think there was
disease. This is the fir... well, I guess second time it was
devils?" She sighs, "I... am not liking the devil part."
Lucky:
(brb
taking dog out)
Yltheria:
"Nobody
likes devils very much, I think. Even people who are on their side
don't like them very much, I think. But you would have to convince
me that any of this is your fault. I don't understand the link."
Ra'ven sighs, "Not even a curse or
anything, it just
... Also just to make sure,
Jydith... Doesn't have an enchantment right?"
Ra'ven:
"A
coincidence that keeps happening around me is my 'fault' insofar
it happens to those around me long..."
Clarity speaks, but it's soft, and
distant, "The devils aren't you."
Yltheria:
"An
enchantment? Oh. You mean the posession factor that the lady
earlier had? I couldn't tell, I'm sorry. She came and went so
fast... I wasn't able to get a good look. But as far as fault
goes, just because you are here and something bad happens doesn't
mean it's your fault. It doesn't even mean they are related. Even
if it happened a thousand times in a row doesn't mean they are
related. Sometimes events happen consecutively without happening
*causally.*.
Clarity:
"The
Iron Empire is here, and they're... in charge. Somehow, Si En
Kelar has fallen."
Ra'ven:
"It
doesn't prove it no, but..." she sighs, "you wanted to join my
'pack'. This will likely keep happening, possibly getting worse. I
didn't say that before. And I mean an enchantment like the
succubus did where you like them."
Yltheria:
"I
don't know what powers this Jydith has. I'm sorry."
Ra'ven is completely petable as long
as you don't try to ruffle her fur, as it IS somewhat sharp
Lucky:
"I
wouldn't say it's fallen. Right?"
Lucky looks around at the others,
trying to gauge their opinions on the matter.
Ra'ven sighs, "Also who the heck are
you?" she huffs at Kris
Eileen:
"I'm
not seeing soilders marching down the streets, so I'd say were a
bit outside of fallen."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"It's
difficult to say. There are a few possibilities, but all of them
involve the Iron Empire being in the midst of a process of
absorbing Si En Kelar. They might be weeks or months or even years
away from being able to announce their dominion, but unless this
is entirely an attempt to destroy Si En Kelar's credibility by
CLAIMING them as an ally, it's best to assume that they are at the
very least working in concert." She presses her lips together.
"But why? What could they possibly have to offer the Emir that he
couldn't acquire without them?"
Kris still looks like he's about to
take a swing at the first person to get to close, "No one a bunch
of cultists like you need to worry about."
Yltheria looks around, then seems to
realize that Kris is referring to the rest of you.
Ra'ven:
"You
fought pretty well, so that's fairly wrong."
Clarity looks toward Eileen, and her
eyes seem to focus a bit more. "Maybe, but," she shakes her head,
"You. I used to work with soldiers like you. My team, and every
team like mine, had four of the strongest warforged soldiers our
forces ever knew. You remind me of them. I think you'd have shown
even them what it means to be a warrior." Her eyes glaze over
again and resumes staring off into the distance.
Lucky lets out a loud cackle at Kris
calling the group cultists.
Ra'ven:
"That
being said why jump into a fight between two groups of 'wolf
cultists' then?"
Rai Patience Cantor:
"I
entirely undestand the confusion, sir. My name is Rai Patience
Cantor, formerly of Lansir and currently of Si En Kelar. However,
before either of us do or say anything in ignorance, might we take
the opportunity to explain ourselves? I have a feeling that what
is going on here isn't what we all think. Would you listen to our
explanation, and then offer your own?"
Ra'ven nods at the Rai, "Alright, I'll
go chase down the Dean then and come back."
Kris:
"You
were both fighting over the old man and...." He trails off and
nods to Rai, "Sure, let's hear it then."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"Thank
you. Ra'ven, if you please. He can't have run off too far." She
places her hands, both real and prosthetic, in front of her in a
conciliatory gesture. "The most important thing is that we are not
in fact cultists." Her expression cracks into a bit of a grin.
"This is a small bit of insanity, admittedly, but our friend
Ra'ven here deliberately mislead them into believing that we were
part of their organization in order to keep them from killing
people at the summit, and so that we could gain information. Since
we had no real way to disable their group as we were, we felt it
would be better to leave them still believing that. And if that
meant we were able to rough them up a bit before the end... well,
all the better. You're very welcome to wait here with us, and when
the "old man" returns, he can verify this for you."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"I
wouldn't take our word either, but we can provide any evidence for
this that you wish."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"For
our part, please allow me to thank you for your own assistance.
Your presence here was a surprise, but not an unpleasant one. I
think more damage was done to them as a result."
Hector Achilon is currently going
around and checking on the hostages, patching them up as needed.
Kris lowers his own sword, "Yeah you
don't really seem like there kind..." He looks around, "You all
even helped me out in that fight, I probably wouldn't have last as
long as I did if not for that."
Kris:
"...and
I have met some pretty chill cultists over the years, so if your
story is true or not your still leages better then that other guy."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"I
think we can agree we helped each other, then." She looks about,
frowning. "Well, I would like to know why you were here too, but
you certainly don't have to answer us. I'm pleased enough that it
ended as happily as it did, so thank you for the assistance.
Especially with the unexpected intrusion at the end, we could have
been seriously hurt without the additional help. May I have your
name?"
Ra'ven eventually heards dean of bad
decisions back
Professor Okorion comes walking back
into the area, accompanying Ra'ven.
Kris:
"Kris,
and I was actually looking in to rumors about the empires intrest
in that big meeting that was happening."
Ra'ven changes back to her normal
tiefling self once she gets back as well
Professor Okorion:
"...It's
over, then? And everyone else is unhurt?" He looks mournfully over
at the little courtyard, where the hostages were. "...They killed
that guardsman so quickly. I didn't even have time to try talking
them out of it..."
Ra'ven:
"I
mean pretty much everyone was hurt somehow but..."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"Hmm.
I wouldn't mind knowing myself. The idea of them being in
collusion is more than a little disturbing."
Professor Okorion:
"Ah.
I apologize, that was almost immeasurably rude of me."
Ra'ven:
"Ha,
perhaps I was spot on then?"
Ra'ven:
"With
the professor's speach being what a devil would say."
Kris:
"I
thought that cult was aligning with them, guess I was a bit off
there."
Ra'ven:
"With
the devils? Not intentionally I'd expect."
Professor Okorion:
"I'm
sorry that your were hurt on my behalf... and very grateful that
your wounds bought my freedom. While I can still do so, I will
give you any assistance in my power. I cannot imagine that I'll be
allowed to continue as Provost, but I can stretch my authority for
you until I am relieved of it."
Lucky:
"I
just want a beer."
Riot:
(( brb taking dog back out because
apparently she did not finish ))
=^v^=:
(( DOG! ))
Ra'ven:
"I
do wonder how my brother is taking it."
Ra'ven giggles, "I bet he'll be
impressed with my trick!"
=^v^=:
(( just now I noticed the giant skull
and crossbones on the map ))
Riot:
(( back ))
Rai Patience Cantor:
"Hah,
yes, understandable. We should all have a drink or two, really.
Kris, would you like to join us for that drink? Assuming that the
Iron empire and the cult are not working together, as seems
likely, that means that the situation is more complicated than we
believed. I have little love for the cult, but even less for the
iron, and if they are somehow allied with the Emir's government
we'll need to proceed carefully."
Rai Patience Cantor:
((Giant
skull and crossbones because there are some people who just don't
care if people know they're criminals, as long as it can't be
proven.))
Kris:
"Sure,
it's been a while sense I've had a chance to relax a bit."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"Excellent."
She turns back to the rest of you. "A drink at home, or at a
tavern? I'd be very surprised if someone hasn't brought home some
reasonable liquor while we were gone."
Clarity:
"Home,
please."
Ra'ven:
"I
mean it's not entirely unlikely that those mysterious last minut
orders aksing that guy to attack the assembly weren't also Iron,
somehow. Probably should check in with the mansion either way. See
if anyone else is back also tell them we aren't dead."
Kris:
"You
guys have a mansion here?"
Ra'ven points to Patience, "She bought
one, it's only a lot cursed."
Ra'ven:
"Also
blessed, it's kinda funny."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"...Ra'ven,
what you just said..." She rubs her temples with her left. "I
should have thought about that. That's a possibility I really
should have considered, and I didn't. Some political creature I've
turned out to be. It might or might not be true, but it's
something that at the very least needs to be considered. If the
goal was to put the league into chaos, then cult has served as an
admirable cat's paw."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"...Not
enough information. Three distinct sides thus far, and any two of
them, or none, might be allied with each other in an attempt to
manipulate the third. A dangerous game with even more dangerous
players."
Ra'ven:
"On
the bright side we are 'enough' on the side of 2 of the 3 that we
can pretend that was our plan all along, right?"
Rai Patience Cantor:
"Ahem.
In any case... yes, we have a mansion here. A smallish one, and in
a bit of disrepair yet, but definitively ours."
Kris:
"Neat."
Kris relaxes his grip on his sword and
after a moment it fully vanishes.
Lucky:
"Not
gonna lie, I love that."
Rai Patience Cantor nods. "Yes....
there's no real way to pretend that we're on the same side as the
Iron, but we can attempt to stay in the good graces of the other
two. And if one of them comes for us even so, that would be some
evidence of allegiance, no? At least enough to warrant
investigation. We don't have the power to take the fight to them
at the moment, but it would be helpful to know where the fight
should be taken."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"...oh,
that sword trick is very nice. I wish I could do that myself."
Kris:
"Needed
some way to defend my self, sense I can't draw this thing." He
points to the sword straped to his back.
Ra'ven:
"Any
reason? You seem strong enough..."
Rai Patience Cantor:
"My
good sir, you have managed to raise a real question with your
statement!"
Rai Patience Cantor:
"If
it is a private matter, though, please say so. I'm simply curious."
Kris shrugs, "I don't know the full
reason, all I know is that my partner doesn't want to be drawn so
it gave me the ability to call up that sword."
Lucky:
"Your...
partner?"
Ra'ven:
"Oh,
a smart sword? I think I heard a few songs about those?"
Kris nods to Lucky, "Your swords arn't
your partners?"
Lucky:
"I
mean, sure, in a way. But they don't tell me if they want to be
drawn or not."
Kris:
"...and
I don't know if it's smart or not, it's never talked to me if it
is, at least I don't think so."
Lucky:
"So
how do you know it doesn't want to be drawn?"
Professor Okorion:
"Hmm.
If it is not sentient, I'd like to know the answer also, but
please give your partner my thanks as well. And, er, might I ask
for an escort either back to the observatory, or to this mansion
of yours, or to somewhere I can get a message to the foreign
dignitaries? I'd really like to, well, attempt to claim that my
statement were a kind of insanity. The Argent cycle isn't far away
now, and I don't want people to become violent in these
conditions."
Ra'ven:
"The
mansion is probably good. Oh, that orc might be there too, he'd be
able to get you back ot the observatory as well."
Kris:
"Cause
no one's been able to draw it. Near as any one that has looked at
it can tell it's not rusted in the sheath or any thing."
Ra'ven:
"The
glowy sword you can use instead seems cooler honestly. Though it
must be a pain to hide that."
Professor Okorion:
"What
orc? Well, it doesn't matter. If you think he can help, I'm
probably best served by trusting you." He looks at the sword
curiously. "How mysterious! I am a man of science, and am rarely
involved in such poetic things, but I can appreciate them when
they occur."
Lucky:
"Interesting.
A sword that can't be drawn. Never seen that before."
Kris holds up his hands to Ra, "Not
that hard to hide something that doesn't exist unless you want it
to."
Yltheria:
"There
is a legend about one like that in Kaldion. Well, in Ordomas too,
but the legend is FROM Kaldion. It's the first time I've seen one,
though."
Yltheria:
"I
wonder why it doesn't want to be drawn..."
Ra'ven:
"Probably
not the 'ttime' yet."
Kris:
"I'd
be intersted in hearing it sometime if your willing to tell me."
Ra'ven:
"Or
it's being cute and is extremely shy."
Yltheria:
"I
can do my best. I haven't done extensive research into it, but I
can at least tell you the legends I've heard."
Yltheria:
"My
parents told me about it a few years ago, and last year I saw the
legend again while researching warding seals."
Ra'ven:
"Also
we aren't drinking yet, so we should stat walking and talking."
Lucky:
"Yes,
please."
Yltheria:
"Yes.
I can't remember it all anyway. I'll try to recall more at home."
Yltheria:
"I'm
sorry."
Kris nods, "It's okay."
Yltheria:
"There
are too many things that are hard to remember. I wish everything
was as easy as necromancy."
Ra'ven:
"Easy
. Most people can't even do necromancy."
Yltheria:
"Most
people could use it to one degree or another with a little
training, though. It's probably the same as with a sword, or horse
riding. But those are a lot more difficult."
Ra'ven:
"I
mean I can't use a sword either."
Yltheria:
"No,
but you can kick fire at people."
Yltheria:
"And
that's very impressive."
Yltheria:
"I'm
not very good with fire at all."
Ra'ven:
"Summon
some sorta skeleton that's on fire?"
Ra'ven blinks, 'Err, not here though,
it's pretty flamable."
Yltheria:
"That's
me summoning Blacky, not me causing Blacky to be on fire. If that
wasn't an inherent property of its anima, me trying to do it would
probably just result in me summoning a skeleton that would then
burn to death."
Eileen:
"Yes
no more fire here, I can't put it out again if another one starts
up."

Hector comes by before you leave to let you know that he's going to
continue treating some of the injured hostages, and that he'll talk to
them about the incident. He wants you to be very sure to keep the girl
safe, though, and to get her off the streets before anything crazy
happens. The long walk back to the mansion finishes up with Garmera's
eyes beginning to change. The golden glow of one eye begins to blanch
towards silver, and the other starts to open to the same hue, heralding
the beginning of an argent cycle. Okorion looks up at the sky several
times, nervously. "I can get the word out through the city's Signwheels.
I'm not really supposed to, but it's not like I won't be fired anyway,
and this is too important. Do you have a quiet room I could use? I
haven't used this ritual in a long time, and I'll need to be able to
concentrate."

Yltheria:
((World
info: In Si En Kelar, and in some other large cities, emergency
news about Garmera's cycles can be shared via "signwheels," which
allow those with the appropriate access to send public messages to

people such as the Society, can be wrong, and predict the
incorrect cycle. In those cases, people need to know as soon as

(Ok
cool.) (Okay, I was going back and forth on this, wondering if I
could actually claim to be willing to continue this a little more
during the week and have you believe me, and decided that I
couldn't. But then as I was writing the next sentence, I fell
asleep again, so at this point it's really not about what I want
to do. I'm literally not going to be able to finish this tonight.
I am going to set an alarm telling myself to continue as soon as I
get up though. And I'm sorry. If you have a better idea, please
tell me! This is just the only one I currently have, because I'm
actually about to drop. But today is still a step forward for me,
sad as that is.)
