Kris: nope
Ganaroth: Good. Work is dumb.
Kris: getting my days off then vacation starts next week.
Ganaroth: Cool.
Ra'ven: more that like, I had work again after I got off work
Ganaroth: Yeah, that sucks.
Ganaroth: I can't polish that turd.
Riot has connected.
Ra'ven: rioto
Ganaroth: A welcome!
Riot: hi hi
Eileen: yo
Riot: Sorry for the delay, had to kill a Drow prick and some Duergar slavers
Ganaroth: Fuck you too, Nere!
Ganaroth: So how is things?
=^v^=: (( work is making me wish I didn't have to work to get my paycheck extra hard this week ))
Riot: oof fair
Riot: things are things
Riot: and yeah Nere got got
Ganaroth: Good.
Ganaroth: Sadly, I can't play that game until someone fixes the Highlight Everythign mod again. It spoiled me too much, and now I can't play without it.
Riot: my friend and I are doing a two player campaign, she's a sorcerer and Shadowheart is a war cleric, and my character Stray is a Githyanki Eldritch Knight with a heart of gold (and Karlach is her gf)
Riot: Karlach and Stray are HUGE cqb melee builds and it's great
Riot: I don't know that mod
Ganaroth: Karlach best girl.
Ganaroth: Yeah, the mod just grabs all objects on the map and gives them highlights/nametags, because the amount of stuff that shows up when trying to highlight by default is pitiful.
Ganaroth: With mod, I can see all the junk, and then choose whether or not I want to grab it, rather than miss useful shit because I was looking at the wrong angle.
Ra'ven: I was trying to like, play disgaea 7 but wooork
Riot: Ah I just run around and spam ALT to make sure I don't miss anything lol
Riot: But that mod sounds like it would make life easier
Ganaroth: Spamming alt still doesn't reveal everything, sadly, like trash containers full of trash. I crave totality.
Ganaroth: I want to see every rotten wicker basket full of spoiled food.
Riot: lol fair
Ganaroth: Plus, I mean... all of that junk is nothing but benefit. Just send it to camp while you're out in the field, and then sell it all for petty cash later. Harvesting the junk puts a noticeable dent in effective prices.
Ra'ven: ready to harvest junk in this game?
Ganaroth: (Lol, my semetism is showing.)
Ra'ven loots the things
Ganaroth: (Loot loot loot.
Ra'ven would just dupe gold
Ra'ven flexes anticapitalism
Riot: lol the only reason we have camping supplies is because I loot every damn thing
Riot: Static does not
Ganaroth: I'm always sitting around with like 3k food. There is so fucking much out there, it's absurd.
Ganaroth: That being said, sure, let's play.
Riot: Sure
Today is the day. Vayak and his people set out with Okorion a few hours ago, after giving you a map to find the battlefield. It wasn't made totally clear how you would leave the Phelgon estate without being seen; it turns out that this is not a problem. One of the cultists staying behind happily shows you to a silver-rimmed door, behind which lies another oddity. From the other end, you can look back to see that doorway standing by itself one end of a darkened glade. The lush greenery smells of water and earth, and insects chirp against the light of a silver orb hanging in the sky, like one of the eyes of Garmera, but with no wolf in sight. Instead, the stars surround that sphere with impunity. An identical door waits at the opposite end, but your escort has already left after wishing you luck, assuming that you know what to do.
Ra'ven: "A bit nostalgic really..."
Eileen: "Been to a place like this before?"
Ra'ven: "It's sorta like where Vul and the rest of us grew up..."
Eileen: "Huh."
Ra'ven: "Also I was thinking and this setup we have... it allows us to somewhat adresss Patience's concern as well."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Hmm?"
Ra'ven: "They are quite literally asking us for a show of force against them."
Lucky: You mean it sells the organization?
Ra'ven: "I mean the 'when they find out they might come after us if they can' bit"
Ra'ven: "This gives us an actual inventation to show that such a plan would be a bad idea right? Without directly picking that fight anyways..."
Rai Patience Cantor: "It's the rare venture where everyone comes away happy. And they will be happy, up until they finally realize that we don't take orders from them after all. In several way, this strengthens our defenses against them."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Any attempt to punish us in the future will have to fight the inertia of public approval to do so. That limits their moves quite a bit."
Ra'ven: "I do not want to hurt them, so i wont. They asked us to feel free, however, so any of you can do so... We should respect the plot to let their leader escape though."
Rai Patience Cantor: "I am inclined to agree, unless something changes drastically. That Vayak man is more useful to us as a grateful co-conspirator than rotting in a cell."
Eileen nods, "Fine..."
Lucky: "Especially since we can't know for sure who is in their cult and who isn't."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Indeed."
Ra'ven: "I mean if nothing else we will have saved his ass a couple of times, if he gets abandoned for failure."
Ra'ven: "People trust liers before trators."
Rai Patience Cantor: "I think you understand the smart play here, Eileen. We play both sides of this for as long as we can. He's not the type to turn on us easily after this, so we'll have a useful buffer between ourselves and the truth. Besides, the deeper shit we can sink that man in, with regards to our identities, the better. Even when he finds out, we might be able to blackmail him into aiding our cover, if he would look incompetent enough when the truth came to light."
Rai Patience Cantor: ".....The scenery really does look odd, though. That sphere... if it's not in a socket, how does it stay in place? Fanciful nonsense, fit for these idiots."
Ra'ven: "It's probably a folded space like Vul kept talking about."
Ra'ven: "Oh also feel free to hit him really hard if thatt helps, Elieen, he does need a 'reason' to flee"
Eileen: "Oh I understand it, I just don't like the way we ended up in it."
Eileen shoots Ra a glare as she says that.
Hector Achilon: "It's not real, though. It really is just a fantasy, even if it's an awful pretty one." He waves a hand around. "There's no life force here, not besides what we brought. All of these plants, all the insects. It's like a DRAWING of life." He frowns. "Even if this is more folded space, why go to the trouble of dressing it up like this?"
Ra'ven hmms
Ra'ven: "Because it's art?"
Ra'ven: "It's pretty obviously not actually wolf cult make, no wolfs, right?"
Ra'ven: "probably just repurposed. Maybe they were from a place like me?"
Eileen: "More likely it was some attempt to make a picture of the world before the wolf."
Ra'ven nods, "So art."
Lucky: "That seems a little odd for people associated with a cult of the wolf."
Hector Achilon: "Well, I suppose art is allowed to be grotesque. I'm smelling something that isn't there, and I am not a fan." He rubs his chin. "Interesting theory. Why though? Why would they want to glorify a time before her?"
Eileen: "Not if your trying to cover for your self and flaunt your wealth."
Hector Achilon: ((Can you explain that statement? I'm not sure what Eileen is getting at.))
Ra'ven: "I mean it seems to have secret doors to two different places? Using a painted hallway as a shortcut despite the painting instead of because of it?"
vonel: (( It was a responce to what Lucky said, If your part of awolf coult throw people off by having a non wolf thing in your house. ))
=^v^=: (( a 'no true wolf cultists would have this sort of thing' thing? ))
vonel: (( and the guy is loaded so flaunting wealth by doing a thing like this is something he might do any way. ))
Hector Achilon: "Yeah, they really are. I mean, I'll grant you, Garmera is all kinds of impressive, but somehow she doesn't inspire me to go knifing anyone."
Rai Patience Cantor: "I doubt that explanation, Eileen. Anyone who saw this room would already be within his defenses, and might check to see where it goes. Which we should probably do as well. Regardless, I'm not sure he would have much to gain by attempting to plead innocence at that point."
Rai Patience Cantor: "As for showing off wealth..." She rolls her eyes. "You haven't seen his home from the outside yet. I'll point it out to you next time we are walking around free. It's one of the gaudiest places in Goldfire."
Eileen shrugs as she heads for the other door, "Could have been made before he joined with them, for all we know there's some thing they do that makes the other end here show up."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Hmm. You make a fair point. It's not as if there isn't old magic going back centuries in every corner of this city. I might be leaping to conclusions by assuming that they created it."
Ra'ven nods, "Ya, that'd what I'd guess, it's a fancy baubel that happens to have a pratical use."
Ra'ven follows Elieen
The other door opens, and on the other side lies the mundane counterpoint to the previous scenery; a maintanence shed, in one of Si En Kelar's many public parks. The door looks the same on this side, but has been concealed; you have to move aside some shabby wood paneling to exit completely. That said, once on the other side, you can see that the park is almost empty, despite the otherwise jam-packed nature of the city. Everyone must be elsewhere, and whatever else that means, at least nobody is watching.
Ra'ven: "Ciity is not currently on fire, nor is there a big pool of blood, good signs right? Where are we?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "Hmmm." She looks around, trying to find a landmark. "There are the Brass and Goldfire clocktowers... And that's Souk Alembic's...." She purses her lips. "I THINK we're somewhere in either Tinton, or in Silver Arch. Either way, it's a bit of a walk to the site."
Ra'ven streches and smiles upward, "Good to be out a bit at least."
Rai Patience Cantor: "I could not agree more. Now all I'll need to do is make sure that the Pasha ceases pursuing me, and I can pretend that my stay in that odious kennel never happened."
Clarity:
Hector Achilon: "Did any of us?"
Ra'ven: "The rich guy? Honestly it was sorta funny how even the cult hated him."
Hector Achilon: "Well, maybe once we're done here, we can prank him really, really hard, or something. You know, saving up for when we actually shove him through the Gate headfirst."
Clarity huffs, "I hope he falls down a well somewhere."
Ra'ven: "Oh perhpas Vayak will knife him on the way out?"
Hector Achilon: "I don't blame them for hating him. There's no sincerity of belief there. He's a rich spoiled brat who is playing at being a villain. The fact that he's well into middle age just makes it sadder. All he contributes is his money, and he think that makes him important to their cause. It doesn't. His money is important; he is not."
Hector Achilon: "If his antics weren't actually helping get people killed, I'd honestly be just as happy to let the cult bleed him slowly until he realizes he can't back out."
Ra'ven: "I mean, basically any case of a large stack of money sitting somewhere gets people killed."
Hector Achilon: "Heh. I know Vayak would love to. The man speaks freely when he think he's in friendly company, and is in his cups."
Ra'ven: "Yep, the only reason he doesn't is cause his bosses won't let him, so as soon as they let him OR they stop being his bosses he's probably going to go off, right?"
Ra'ven looks around, 'Know the way, Patience? I admit I somewhat cheat, as the observatory is pretty obvious from above, as are the docks."
Hector Achilon: "A huge pile of money can cause a lot of grief even without someone actively using it to hurt others, but Phelgon goes the extra mile." He nods. "That would be my guess. Phelgon's on borrowed time, but remember that he can hurt us bad up until then, ok? He's pathetic, but we can't blind ourselves to the damage he could do anyway."
=^v^=: (( also we are planing on 'kidnaping' the dean again during the fight right? ))
Hector Achilon: ((That is my understanding.))
=^v^=: (( cool, I was just makign sure we didn't leave him tied to a chair behind or something ))
Hector Achilon: The Park itself seems to be in a what amounts to an affluent upper-middle-class type of neighborhood, which in typical Si En Kelar fashion means that it is limited to three vertically stacked layers, each with its own manicured biome. When you reach the bottom level, parallel to the street, you can see that there is a disctinct lack of people here as well. More concerningly, though, are the large number of houses sporting wards and heavy physical locks, despite the fact that the Argent cycle is still most of a day away. People here are nervous.
Hector Achilon: (That was meant to be /e, but whatever.)
Ra'ven: "Supose this works out, but I guess that does mean everyone freaked out at that announcement."
Thanks to the lack of crowds, you make good time. Along the way, you discover where at least some of the missing people are: pressed in close behind either a wall of mercenary and retainer steel, or a similar one made of city guardsmen. So far, it appears to be relatively tame, with insults and screams being flung, but it doesn't look like it will be long before stones enter the picture. You see them at the far end of an avenue as you cross, a mass of sentient beings soon to go critical. This scene is repeated elsewhere, even as the city blocks become shabbier and poorer. By the time you arrive at the ramshackle Tsam district, you've witnessed three different incidents brewing, and each one on more dangerous ground. In the richer areas, things are largely stone, tile and metal. In these less well-off places, though, more and more wood is used in the construction, and the last incipient riot was taking place in what might as well have been a sawmill, for how easy it might be for a spark to catch. The same goes for your own location, which seems to have been built only halfway congruent with the ground beneath it. Large sections of it are clearly built on wooden scaffolds surrounding large pits or other terrain difficulties. Altogether, it gives the appearance of a thouroughly disreputable and unsafe locale. Obviously this is where you were meant to go.
As you approach the battle site, you begin to hear shouts of an altogether different nature, as cultists bark angry orders at what sounds like a group of civilians, judging from the distress in their voices.
Hector Achilon:
Riot: (( it's making sense to me! ))
=^v^=: (( no worries I seem able to follow at least as well ))
=^v^=: (( and I'm also sorta sleepy! ))
Ra'ven: "Oh look we get to save people as well?"
vonel: (( I'm just always sleepy any more ))
Eileen: "Looks that way."
vonel: (( I am also following everything ))
vonel: (( brb ))
Hector Achilon: ((Wait, are we all sleepy? lol. Anyway, moving on.))
Riot: (( same, forgot to bring trash cans in lol ))
Hector Achilon:
Rai Patience Cantor: "It makes sense. This was supposed to be public. There are few better ways to ensure an audience than literally holding them captive."
Riot: (( back ))
vonel: (( back as well ))
Rai Patience Cantor pauses. "What's the plan? Resounding declaration of intent, and forthright confrontation? We could probably manage to get the jump on them, if we wanted. It depends on how we want to be seen." She nods towards the corner of a rough plank building, behind which you can hear one of the cultists screaming at the hostages about how their Emir has committed himself to blasphemy, and the like.
Ra'ven throws up her hands defensivly, "Hey, I'm sorta out of this call, maybe something a little tricky since we are going with the 'it was all an act' thing for the first part."
Ra'ven: "We are here because I had to make up something on the spot..." she frowns.
Rai Patience Cantor smiles contentedly. "Don't mistake the question for me chastising you, Ra'ven. Considering the absolute disaster we were handed, your idea was very helpful. If you're willing to allow it, I would very much like to shoot at them from the roof. Give me a moment to get up top, hmm? Just come around the corner when you're ready." Thankfully, Patience made the choice to wear trousers today, so she doesn't have to do anything crazy with her clothing in order to climb.
Lucky: "I'm not the 'planning and prep' kinda girl, I'm more the 'punch their heads in' type."
Clarity: "A sniper is a good plan."
Ra'ven: "Oh I can get you up there pretty quick if you want?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "Hopefully it works out as well in practice as in theory..." She nods at Ra'ven. "Certainly. I'm capable of climbing this, but I'm not against you making it easier."
=^v^=: (( no idea how hight it is but ra'ven can yoink a teleport 5 squares and is actually great at climbing ))
=^v^=: (( plus can just teleport 2 squares at will as move ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (That's probably fine. The buildings are all fairly low-slung around here, so height isn't a huge issue.)
Rai Patience Cantor: ((Ra'ven, would you mind making a stealth check?))
=^v^=: (( also she has like a +15 climb mod ))
=^v^=: (( sure ))
Ra'ven:
  Stealth : Rolled 20.
You both make it to the top without seeming to attract attention. From this vantage, you can see a number of cultists, masked and hooded, as well as what appear to be a number of actual wolves, following members of the cult around and snarling at the hostages. Even from where you are, Ra'ven, you can feel something off about them, like something within them has been replaced by mania.
Ra'ven: "...ug, those wolves are not... normal..." she whispers to Pati
Rai Patience Cantor: "Noted. I'm doubly glad to be on the roof, then."
Ra'ven nods, "I'd join you but a certain amount of showyness right..."
Ra'ven: "So, which one you going to do, shoot the leader to start or shoot someone holding a hostage?"
At the root of one of the longer jetties, where a dubious junker of a skyship waits, you can see a particularly large cultist shoving Professor Okorion about, laughing roughly. The voice and build make it fairly obvious that this is Vayak. The other captives watch as the old man has his feet kicked out from under him, sending him to the boards, and Vayak casually steps on Okorion's ankle, eliciting a groan of pain. He laughs, though you're not sure how much real humor is being had. Then, as you move across the roof, gaining a better view, you can see that, in addition to the civilian dockworkers and locals, four guards have also been captured. Three of them have been disarmed and badly beaten; their wounds are being tended to by a young man in the crowd. The fourth is simply a corpse now, and has been shoved up against the far wall, away from the others. He must have resisted a little too hard.
Ganaroth: ((Okay, Imma move people over to the fight zone, kay?))
Riot: (( k ))
=^v^=: (( coo ))
=^v^=: (( resto guys creep closer? ))
Riot: (( lmao Dean of Bad Decisions ))
=^v^=: (( he is tho! ))
Ganaroth: ((Okay, this map is actually way weirder and more difficult to interpret than I thought at first, so this is what I see. It looks like this building has some decking built around the second floor, which is where Patience and Ra'ven are right now, looking down inside a small courtyard (where the skull pattern is.) In addition to the main skyship, there are some rock-hoppers; small craft that are not rated for the open sky, and are used mostly to get around to the various islets surrounding the city. Several of the cultists have actually taken up position in the pilot's seats of these things, and are using the additional height to scan the area. Luckily, they seem to have missed you.
Ganaroth: ((Does that seem like an interpretation of this map that people are willing to deal with?))
Ra'ven assumed that we were on a like, overlook on a 3rd floor, the dark part is a second floor, and the dirt goes to a gate-like overpass taht ends up paved on the other side
Ganaroth: (Oh, you're right, sorry. I missed one floor division.)
Ganaroth: (Thanks for taking the effort to help me out!)
vonel: (( dark part of lvl 2 there is just the roof of the building ))
Riot: (( ^^^ ))
Ganaroth: (Yeah, it's the roof, but it's not like you can't walk on the roof, so it functions as a level.)
=^v^=: (( ya, there sorta looks like stairs with the slats up and down from ra and pa ))
=^v^=: (( underpass in yellow? ))
Ganaroth: (Sure, but lemme just put a single easily taken-out guard in it.)
vonel: (( Could be a ramp or something under there. ))
=^v^=: (( non-difficut terrain of negational steepness? ))
=^v^=: (( negotiatiable or however ))
vonel: (( That's what I'm thinking, other wise you have to go all the way around on the outer walks to get to that center area. ))
Ganaroth: (Oh, there's definitely an underpass thingy there. But remember, you don't have to start initiative right where you are, either. You have the opportunity to creep closer.)
Ganaroth: (So, in fact, that's what I would like you to do. If you would like, place yourselves where you'll want to begin the fight. Thanks to your arrangement, for the most part the cultists will allow you to get into position, as long as you aren't being completely bonehead obvious about it.)
Ra'ven is going to wait for people to get into position and try to sneak up along that top rail to get close to where dean of bad decisions is
Ganaroth: (Sounds like a decent idea.)
Riot: (( Hector or Yltheria wanna move up near Lucky maybe? ))
Riot: (( either way ))
Ra'ven is basically going to try to sneak towards that yellow square and 'sneak attack' yoink the dean away with her teleport
Riot: (( and I spy a new character ))
Ganaroth: (Sorry, just noticed that Lucky was down there all by herself. That's not fair, so they'll go with her.)
Riot: (( no worries! ))
Ganaroth:
Riot: (( lol ))
Ganaroth: ((Okay! That looks like people are set up. So lets roll initiative and.... then go to sleep? Lol. D&D while old sucks sometimes.
Riot: (( lol sounds good ))
Eileen readys to be up all night
Eileen: Also only one getting Eileens Init boost is Lucky.
Eileen:
  Combat Leader
Effect: You and each ally within 10 squares who can see and hear you gain a +2 power bonus to initiative.
Expert Combat Leader: The bonus to initiative from Combat Leader increases to +3.
Riot: (( Clarity right? Lucky is on the other side of the building ))
vonel: (( Yeah my bad ))
Riot: (( all good just wanted to make sure we were on the same page ))
=^v^=: (( pa and ra can't see her tho I think ))
=^v^=: (( depending on exactly whre ra'ven gets before init is called ))
Itzen the Blade Instructor: xP
Ganaroth: Itzen the who?
=^v^=: (( exactly, literally nobody except that theoretical wolf cultist I made xP ))
Ganaroth: ((Regardless, Ra'ven can probably get herself into position. She's reasonably sneaky, and they're working with you.))
=^v^=: (( can see elieen or na? ))
Ganaroth: ((Okay, we've arrived, and now can actually really do this next week, and I will try my best not to be a wreck, because I want to continue on as much as I know you do.))
Riot: (( All good, sounds like a plan! ))
=^v^=: (( matters for init roll eh ))
Ganaroth: ((Thanks, all of you, for your extraordinary patience.))
Ganaroth: (I think I'm going to temporarily unexist myself.)
Riot: (( Thank you for the game! Okay, g'night y'all! ))
=^v^=: (( lol that init only matters for one soldier worth of it ))
=^v^=: (( oh cool logfox works but the dates are dumb cause it only renames log file when you start and stop maptool it seems ))
