Ganaroth?: Heyo guys.
vonel: yo
Ganaroth?: So what's up?
vonel: not much
=^v^=: same
Ganaroth?: Neither me.
=^v^=: was just doing that argue on the internet thing tho
Ganaroth?: I'm just sitting in a house with a cat.
=^v^=: someone was trying to do the whole, "I like it so it has to be good" thing
Ganaroth?: Uh, ok. I don't really know the particulars, so I can't evaluate this person's argument. I'll just assume it's an excellent example of the trope.
Riot has connected.
Ganaroth?: Heylo!
vonel: hiya
Riot: hey hey
Riot: how's everyone doing
Ganaroth?: Just contemplating the celestial mystery that is cat and house.
vonel: good
Ganaroth?: And you? How are you?
Riot: Doing alright, got stuck at the grocery store longer than intended lol
Ganaroth?: Honestly that sounds really unpleasant to me. I hate both shopping and public contact, so every minute would count triple.
Riot: Yeah I'm not a fan either
Ganaroth?: So, enyweighs, if you folk want, we can start up. Or we could just sit around and talk about whatever. ...That last is unlikely to go as well as it did in the fabled days of actual dice.
Ganaroth?: I mean, if you wanted to try it, ok, but someone has to come up with a topic.
Riot: lol I'm good if we start
Ganaroth?: Kay! Akaiku, Vonel, you good to start also?
Ganaroth?:
Riot: lol
vonel: Yep
Ganaroth?:
Last time on D&D, you hatched a plan. Before the Argent cycle can begin, before the rioting starts, you are going to stage your very public "fake" rescue of Professor Okorion, planning to present yourselves as a team fighting the cult, while in reality you're just positioning yourselves into even deeper cover. Or... wait, was it the other way around? Or maybe both? Things have gotten complicated, is all I'm saying, and you've found yourselves racing the clock as the cult prepares the site of your incipient scuffle.
=^v^=: (( ya sorry ))
=^v^=: (( it's totally both ))
Vayak himself seemed perfectly happy to go along with your plan, easily convinced that this would erase his embarrasment in the eyes of his superiors, unaware that he's simply allowed himself to be fooled twice the same way. At dinner the day before, he happily mentioned that they had "obtained" a small skyship to play the part of the kidnapper's vehicle, and of his plan to simply sail out of visual range toward some plausible destination, then use the Warp and scuttle the ship.
Riot: (( nice ))
Asger Vayak: "Better than changing the port markings. You can't track a ship that's nothing but bits and pieces raining all the way down, but you CAN waste a shit-load of time trying."
Ra'ven: "That and it makes it so you can even be presumed dead for now if you want."
Asger Vayak: "Not against it. I'll just get some pygmalus, then find a discreet sculptor. I'd have to do it anyway, so if they've given up entirely, that's nothing but a help." (Pygmalus is a kind of strange ointment, ingredients unknown, that comes from the central sea of Cor Falca. Rubbing it into your face allows one to mold their features like clay, until the ointment dries, locking it in place again. It's often used by the elderly or conventionally unattractive to change their appearance to something more pleasing, although its effects do have their limits, but also by criminals and spies.)
Asger Vayak: "So, I figure you have to get the drop on us, right? We'll be 'stealing' the airship, taking a few hostages, making sure everybody notices, that sort of thing, so it'll probably be believeable that we were surprised, as busy as we'll be. Heh. Anyway, I'll be there, but do NOT kill me or knock me out, ok?" He looks around, clearly checking to see if any of his people are listening. "The others, that's up to you. I'm not taking anybody on this assignment whom we can't afford to lose. Phelgon agrees with me. We need to give the locals some kind of win, even if it means a few of us get weighed on the bronze scales for it. Or, you know..." He falls silent, clearly uncomfortable with the OTHER option, but aware that even not mentioning it is, at this point, calling attention.
Ra'ven: "I mean it's pretty hard for you to get away if we did, right..."
Asger Vayak: "Well, yeah. That's why I'm reminding you to not do that. Feel free to hurt me, though. A few cuts and stabs aren't going to be a problem; I heal pretty fast, heh."
Asger Vayak: "I'll just start running to the ship if I get tired, so all you have to do is not chase me. The others will have to look out for themselves. Anyway, you'll love the spot. It's on this outcrop in Bindletown, at it's probably the most piece of shit dock in the city. EXACTLY where you'd expect nefarious criminal activity to take place, and not likely to be crawling with dignitaries and their guards. The whole place is a deathtrap, structurally I mean, so watch yourselves, but otherwise it doesn't get better."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Clearly not too much of a deathtrap, since you're willing to risk it, but your meaning is taken. I'll watch my feet, and no open flames."
Ra'ven looks down a bit at the 'no open flames'
Riot: (( I was waiting for someone to do that lol ))
Rai Patience Cantor gives you a deadpan look, and with the eye facing away from Vayak and Phelgon at the dinner table, delivers a very deliberate wink.
Rai Patience Cantor: "I'm certain that you can contain yourself, at least until we need a major distraction of some kind."
Lucky: "I'd also rather not burn down the locals' source of livelihood, if possible."
Ra'ven has, in the past, shown that she sets stuff on fire via violence, sorta an anti-perra
Lucky: "I know it's a risk we'll have to take. Just saying."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Ah, of course. Though a dock fit only for scum is likely to be worked by the same. I guarantee you that the workers have a cut of whatever is being brought in there."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Still, even scum deserve some consideration. So... don't burn down the neighborhood."
Ra'ven: "That's fine, i dsilke large fires anyways."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Oh, really? Hmm. I wasn't aware. Is there a reason for that?"
vonel: (( I got to start getting things set up for that meeting of mine, so I'll be afk for around 30 minutes or so. ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Ok, 30 min break, folks. Get a drink, or somethin'.)
Ra'ven: "I mean, it's not a big deal, just well, I like fire I can control?"
Riot: (( okay time to heat up some cheap ravioli lol ))
vonel: (( Took a little longer then expected but back now. ))
Riot: (( woohoo! ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Yooo)
=^v^=: (( Im here ))
Rai Patience Cantor: "I too prefer things that I can control. A bit ironic, considering our devotion to Great Garmera, who is above all else. Uncontrollable. A perfect force, not of nature, because nature bends to HER, but more akin to a concept. The lving example of personal sovereignty, greater than the world itself. Why, do you think?" She takes a heavy breath. "I've considered it in myself... is it because I aspire to be like her, or to BE her, or to be somehow even greater? Is this feeling of longing when I look at her a strength or a weakness?" She swirls the wine about in her glass, a little of it spilling over the top. She HAS had a couple of extra glasses compared to her normal at this dinner, but it's still a departure from her normal fastidiousness. Even the edges of her words have softened, her clipped tone becoming breezy.
Asger Vayak: "Ah..."
Asger Vayak: (goddammit, looking for a thing.)
=^v^=: (( things and their lack of ontological inertia! ))
Pasha Phelgon smiles, and puts his hand on her left arm. She lets it stay. "Oh, I don't think there's anything strange about a person with great ambitions looking to the greatest example she can find. An example, and also an aid. After all, we can all use a stronger, more experienced influence on us, every now and again."
Ra'ven: "It's a difference between a tool and a force. I control flames as a tool. The lack of control is a problem. Like a room full of blades at every angle vs a sword. The flip side is how you can dislike a wolf but be devote to Garmera."
Clarity looks to Pasha's hand on Patience's arm, startled and then furious, before wiping the look from her face and forcing something neutral.
Lucky: "The only thing I control is a sword. Well, two. But that's enough for me, I think."
Ra'ven laughs, "You spoke of controlling a bar for a while as well."
Pasha Phelgon: "Just one wolf in particular, or all of them? Pah. It doesn't matter. Garmera is a wolf in the same way that a dragon is a lizard. They use her countenance, as she has blessed them, but THEY are not HER."
Lucky: "I mean, yeah. But that was more of a controlled anarchy."
Yltheria: "I control the forces of life and death, in a plurality of the time."
Yltheria: "Sometimes I just control skeletons, though, because they can carry things for you, and don't smell."
Asger Vayak: "You used to run a bar? You know, I thought that I was getting that kind of flair off you. You know how it is; if a bartender isn't a surly type, then they've almost certainly got some joy in their work. They're in the business of being friendly with style, and you definitely give off that energy. Just like Ra'ven gives off "contemplation" and Eileen gives off "mystery." Been a while since I was in a group where everyone had a story. At least, a story I gave a shit about."
Lucky: "Yeah, it meant a lot of bar fights. It was kinda fun, for a while. Didn't like the whole 'spending a long time in one place' bit, though."
Asger Vayak: "Hmm. Yeah, that's one of the downsides of my life now. It's like we're moving in opposite directions, yeah? Even after I sail off into the clouds tomorrow, I still gotta come back here. I like the work, just not the workplace, you know what I'm saying? But somebody needs to keep these morons from eating their own fingers." He says "morons" with a touch of affection.
Lucky smiles, "Yeah, pretty much. I'm sure I'll go back at some point, but for right now the place is in the hands of my employees and my best friend. I hope it hasn't burned down already."
Ra'ven: "See, again uncontrolled fire is bad."
Pasha Phelgon: "Ha! I was going to ask if you had been there while she was away, but I suppose you've made your position clear."
Ra'ven: "Plus I'm sorta picky about alchohol."
Rai Patience Cantor smiles brightly at him. "It was perfectly fine last I heard... last I saw. Honestly, Pasha, it's this lovely little place. Rough and tumble, but by design. It's like a little haven for people who like to sing and sometimes fight over their drinks, but who expect those drinks to have quality. I can't say that I would be a frequent patron, but she has carved her clientele out of the general population like a scalpel. She's a much more savvy businessperson than you'd think, from the way she waves those blades around and breaks through doors."
Pasha Phelgon: "Well, if my Patience is to be believed, you'd have no cause to complain about the drinks there."
Lucky looks at the Rai, slight confusion on her face, before smiling and responding with a quiet, "Thanks."
Ra'ven: "Honey and frut." she nods
Rai Patience Cantor gives a tiny nod.
Clarity flinches at the way Pasha refers to the Rai as "my Patience" but says nothing.
Riot: (( brb gotta take dog out ))
=^v^=: (( dogs! ))
Riot: (( back ))
Riot: (( yeah she's a little 75 lb gremlin lol ))
Rai Patience Cantor: "Oh... all this talk of drinking and bars has just made me realize that I'm... well, Not quite three sheets to the wind, but perhaps two?" She gives another bright, glassy smile, standing up. "I'll need to stop by my room for a tonic, but when I'm a little less busy, perhaps I can come around and continue the conversation? I have some... some ideas based on Lucky's... oh, dizzy." She plops back into her seat and blinks her eyes, as though trying to clear them. "Um... if I can receive some assistance. Walking and I appear to be mortal enemies at the moment." She looks at the other members of the group expectantly.
Clarity steps over to Patience and helps her up.
Clarity: "Maybe we should get you a glass of water on the way."
Ra'ven considers that there probably isn't any dignified mannor she could have escorted the Rai
=^v^=: (( how tall was Patience anyways? ))
Rai Patience Cantor: "Ah, of course. Clarity, always so helpful. She's the type that can't see a wounded bird without trying to fashion it new wings of brass and crystal." She giggles a bit. "Oh, you know It's a compliment. You've always been that way." She takes Clarity's arm, and hoists herself up, with her assistance. "Yes... we should probably get some water. I'm somehow still thirsty."
Rai Patience Cantor: ((Patience is 5'8"))
Clarity stares at the Rai for a moment before turning to walk her out. "Yeah, I guess that's true. But always moreso with you. Anyway. Let's get you where you need to go, shall we?"
=^v^=: (( then not so bad xP ))
Rai Patience Cantor: "Right. My apologies for the unseemly display. At least I hope that my poor behavior has given you something to laugh about." Leaning on Clarity's arm, she exits the room. As soon as the door is closed and nobody seems to be within earshot, she whispers to Clarity. "You undersood that was an act back there, right? I've been slowly filling up several flasks with this extra wine I've been "drinking," whenever nobody is looking, and it was getting exhausting. I'd hoped to be able to become convincingly three-sheets, but the odious cretin won't. Stop. Looking. At. Me."
Rai Patience Cantor: "The more time I spend here, the more I want to hire myself to turn it to rubble."
Clarity:
Rai Patience Cantor: "Of course. He bragged about having received correspondence from someone EXTREMELY important to their new allies. Frankly, he was as pleased as though he'd won a sack of rubies." She sighs heavily. "I need to be in his room tonight so that I can find and copy that letter, but he takes all the measures you'd think that a man of his wealth would to safeguard his personal chambers. Getting in without an invitation would be dicey." She purses her lips. "Not that his hands are going to do much more than brush mine. I have a poison... normally for my weapon, but it can be administered in other ways. He'll sleep all night, and remember little more than a vague sense of satisfaction."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Disgusting bag of unwashed meat. I wish I could ruin you faster, making me go through this cliche."
Clarity: "I would tell you to be careful but we both know you're only careful until you decide not to be. Just remember, if anything happens to you, I will burn this place to the ground with everyone in it."
Clarity cackles at Patience's outburst.
Rai Patience Cantor looks at Clarity, expression searching. "You really would, wouldn't you? I have always wondered exactly what your fascination with me was-- and I still wonder. But I also suspect that you'll tell me in your own time."
Clarity looks away, answering quiet, "One day I hope you'll know."
Riot: (( *quietly ))
Rai Patience Cantor: ((Aaaaaaaaand. Next time I hope to get to the actual docks, but as for tonight, it is now 10 and I am a bit tired, and also I need to give this fucking cat its nighttime snack and then run away, because if I'm still visible when he is done eating, he'll never leave me alone.)
Riot: (( works for me ))
Rai Patience Cantor: ((Cool. So, hopefully I'll see you next week. I'll still be here, but hey, the power and internet didn't flicker the whole day! I'm sure nothing can go wrong.))
=^v^=: (( those cats ))
=^v^=: (( o ))
=^v^=: (( also ))
=^v^=: (( maybe it's sunday next week, maybe it's still thurs, unsure where von is on that ))
Riot: Either way is fine with me
Rai Patience Cantor: Either way is fine with me too.
Eileen: It's still Thursday
Rai Patience Cantor:
Rai Patience Cantor: Cool.
Riot: Sweet
Rai Patience Cantor: Thursday, then.
Riot: Gnight y'all!
=^v^=: (( cool, hopefully at some point perra and vul can do the thing ))
Riot: Yes
Rai Patience Cantor: Night!
Riot: I am excited to see that
Ganaroth? is disconnected.
Riot: Buddy heist lol
Ra'ven: there is a certain level of irony in the heist to me
Riot: Oh?
Ra'ven: the reasoning FOR that heist is because "Hmm, these plans seem wierd and poorly thought out"
Ra'ven: "WE SHOULD HEIST THE PLANS!"
Ra'ven: basically the "This dipomatic conference was wierd we should break into the oval office and steall top secret documents from the president"
Riot: oh lord
Riot: That is going to be chaos
Riot: I can't wait
Ra'ven: Vul wanting his context
Ra'ven: Also Vul likes things that are tricky and cool
Riot: And isn't Perra some form of nobility (iirc)?
Ra'ven: to make up for him not being a sneaky fox
Ra'ven: I think so but like, not in a super official way since that place dislikes sorcerers
Riot: Right
Riot: Still not gonna be good for her family if y'all get caught I imagine lol
Ra'ven: one of the things that was sorta joke for Ra'ven is that the whole group she ended up with were princessess
Ra'ven: sorta
Riot: lmao
Ra'ven: She DID stop short of calling Elieen one I think?
Ra'ven: then again, a thing Vul and Ra'ven share is strange beliefs on titles
Riot: Strange how
Ra'ven: they both treat them as a role that a person picks
Ra'ven: and that being a X is just a matter of playing the role well
Riot: Interesting
Ra'ven: they basically think titles are fake it till you make it, since for the most part they were fairly isolated and only had stories
Riot: lol
Ra'ven: I mean it's not exactly a spoiler but they aren't actually blood related at all
Riot: Oh interesting
Ra'ven: they were raised together though and have many similar mannorisms
Ra'ven: also they turn into fuzzy somewhat lupine critters, just extremely different ones
Riot: Right
Ra'ven: ironically neither really tends to a 'normal' thing either
Ra'ven:
Ra'ven: He turns into basically a show fox, too nice to be a real fox that does real fox things
Ra'ven: the thing ra'ven turns into is somewhate between a to-big jackal and a wolf, but with entirely wrong tail, more sinister claws and teeth and horns, plus wrong coloring
Riot: Sounds scary
Ra'ven: ya, her tail is sorta like a long fuzzy-ish cat tail with the end being extremely sharp bristles
Ra'ven: but not like, spikey, just the tip is pretty sharp, she sometimes gives spare/sheded bristles away
Ra'ven: she can pick locks with them xP
Ra'ven: she can't really attack with them directly since she doesn't really have 'puncture anything particularly resistant' tail strength
Riot: Gotcha
Ra'ven: it's sorta funny since like
Ra'ven: she has the same horns and tail in both her forms
Ra'ven: also mosly the same ears
Riot: lol
Ra'ven: I mean I don't know if anyone has good levels of 'knowledge like, werewolves or shit like that'
Ra'ven: but like Yith said, there be something strange with that girl
Riot: My two definitely don't have much knowledge on that front
Ra'ven: though I think Clarrity knows stuff about devils
Riot: Yeah some
Ra'ven: unsure how apparent it is to here but this has been used a few times possibly in her view
Ra'ven:
  Hellbeast
Really a bit more sinister then normal for a Tiefling
Effect: She counts as a devil if it's beneficial to her. She also gains training in intimidate and can speak/read supernial
Riot: Oh wow
Riot: I mean tbf Clarity's only experience with devils is the Iron
Ra'ven: Both the devils we have thusfar encounters in the raid, the succubus and the hero treated her a bit differently
Ra'ven: I mean she is a tiefling who were assocated with them, but there is a difference even there
Riot: Right
Ra'ven: for her part she calls herself a tiefling and says she can turn into a wolf, of a sort
Ra'ven: I mean really it's more of the sort of wolf someone deathly afraid of wolves would have nightmares of
Ra'ven: which you wouldn't think that common given that there is a skywolf
Riot: Nightmare wolf, love it
Ra'ven: I mean sure it's ripping off a different character I had, but the why and how are way different
Ra'ven: Same with vul sorta, same charater even
Ra'ven: Zwei could turn into a cute fluffy black fox
Ra'ven: except she wasn't actually a fox, it was a cute fluffy fox with a bushy tail etc
Riot: Nice
Riot: I mean I played Clarity in a 5e Spelljammer campaign
Ra'ven: one of the ultimate traps that I kept making fun of against Zwei is a big button that says "Fox activated button" that wouldn't trigger
Ra'ven: she would be extremely sad
Riot: lmao
Ra'ven: Zwei was actually someone's trauma taken physical form after they got over her
Ra'ven: She faded in sunlight so she tended to carry an umbrella
Riot: Oh wow
Ra'ven: She also fed off people's breath
Riot: Wild
Ra'ven: she was sorta the anthromorphic personification of what her 'mother' used to torture herself with over past failures and regrets
Riot: oh lord
Ra'ven: her relationship with her mom after they were seperate was akward as shit so she sorta fled to a different plane
Ra'ven: also there was a bit of irony in that a girl she ended up getting a crush on happened to also be a star
Riot: What a wild campaign with insanely interesting characters
Ra'ven: On the bright (lol) side she turned out to actually exist, something that Zwei was super big on saying was the case because it wasn't a dream, she'd know if it was a dream.
Ra'ven: Since she doesn't dream, she can enter other's dreams though.
Ra'ven: She really wanted to will herself into being 'real'
Riot: Aww
Ra'ven: since weither or not Zwei was actually 'real' is sorta philsophical
Ra'ven: she was consious yes, but she basically was someone's imaginary friend
Ra'ven: She was always concerned that if she was completely alone that she might not exist
Ra'ven: owell
Ra'ven: that campaign turend into star trek sorta
Riot: I love it
Ra'ven: seekign out new life and new civilizations and stealing kisses from cute extradimentional girls
Ra'ven: "Clearly it's fine to violate general order 1 again, it's important..."
Ra'ven: Also Nesoli, the girl she had a crush on, hit people with a charred stick
Riot: lol
Ra'ven: good old bonk button
Ra'ven: it was a staff of striking or something, so encounter push 1 and prone or something
Riot: lol nice
Ra'ven: but ya, Zwei had the first 'fox' button
Ra'ven: that was just a macro that was all, "Effect: Does fox things"
Ra'ven: In a different game The Fox had a "Feelz" button
Ra'ven: it was an obviously clockwork fox, with gears and a clock
Ra'ven: the 'Feelz" button was that it felt like a soft fuzzy fox despite this
Riot: amazing
Ra'ven: Zalanfe was somewhat amazing at transmution
Ra'ven: she made the fox's phyical feeling entirely different from the rest of it
Ra'ven: She was terrible at illusions, since she was a creature created to curate truth
Ra'ven: so, as she put it, "It's not an illusion, it really does feel like that."
Ra'ven: also would probably drone on about the vaguritys of magical theory
Ra'ven: whilst petting the clockwork fox like a cat
Riot: lol
Ra'ven: the clockwork fox used to be a spider broach
Ra'ven: and I think before that some sort of staff
Ra'ven: it was a really powerful artifact that reflected what you thought of it's nature as a way to prevent you from comprehending it's true nature
Ra'ven: that tendancy combined with Zalanfe's desires and knoledge of the nature of both the artifact and reality, mixed with a bunch of insane circumstances made it develop a consiousness and also turned into a foxperson
Ra'ven: which was unhappy till it found out it could still have a clock
Ra'ven: owell it's late
Ra'ven: vacations woo
Riot: lol fair
Riot: gnight!
Ra'ven: the "I have played dnd for decades turns out I can talk about it at length" thing
