Ganaroth? has connected.
vonel has connected.
=^v^=: ohai
vonel: hi
Vul: fox
Vul: so
Vul: I have sent 9 foxes
Vul: it is now both the kyuubi number and the mortal men doomed to die number
Ganaroth?: Nazgul foxes.
Ganaroth?: Which fox is the Witch King of Angmar?
Perra: Don't know
Ganaroth?: It'll be the one that can only be killed by a woman.
Ganaroth?: But I don't know which of them has that ability.
Vul: I mean nobody has forged The One Fox so that the possessers of the foxes become foxwraiths
Vul: I do find it funny that all the human rings were accounted for and all the dwarf rings were eaten by dragons, all of them
Ganaroth?: Oh, you're right. I guess they're still the foxes of old.
Vul: TASTY FUCKIGN DWARF KINGS FAVORATE FOOD OF DRAGONS
Ganaroth?: Well, dragons go where the gold is.
Vul: dwarf kings are high in cholestral so all the dragons except the one died after eating them though
Ganaroth?: Not the dragon's fault that the dwarves kept their rings inside giant pools of dragon bait.
Ganaroth?: I mean, as a strategy to get rid of all those fucking dragons, it wasn't bad.
Ganaroth?: Anyway! Want to get started?
Perra: Sure
The cult has left, but the crowd remains in a state of shock. Some continue to panic, rushing for the exits, while others have clustered together, eyes darting about the room nervously as they talk anxiously amongst themselves.
Ganaroth?:
Perra looks over at Vul, "Wh...what just happened?"
Vul: "It looks like everyone followed my sister escaping with that cult...?" He hmms, "This wasn't planned right?"
Perra: "If it was they didn't tell me..."
Perra: "Are we a cult?"
Perra looks nervous and confused.
Vul: "I don't think so? I mean I wouldn't put it past Ra'ven to be in such a thing, but... I mean I don't think she'd hide it?"
Vul: "But, well... We probably should get clearing out, since it's going to be annoying to explain that, since we are sorta guards... Oh you think we can find your observatory friend from before?"
Vul: "The one who gave us the feathers?"
Kaylen comes rushing into the room, with eyes wide and an incipient bruise under her right one.
Kaylen sees the two of you, and immediately runs over to you.
Perra: "I guess she'll find us."
Kaylen: "You two! What the actual fuck is going on? I'm used to being trampled by rich people, but it's not usually this literal."
Vul: "The Silver whatever wolf cult kidnapped the dean and killed someone" he gestures to where the dead person was
Perra nods
Vul: "Also threatened to kill more but like... my sister convinced them to leave?"
Perra: "...and everyone else went with them, took the dean to."
Vul nods
Vul: "Oh also the dean threateed everyone who didn't help stopping Garmera having kids with death."
Vul: "That was a wierd thing to do."
Kaylen: "...That's nuts. Okay, so I heard that the Silverfang cult had been invited, not my idea, but it's pretty ballsy of them to immediately start killing people. You'd think they'd want to be part of discussions. And the Emir said WHAT?" She looks incredulous. "Ok, I don't know what that's about. That sounds insane." Her brow furrows a bit. "I'm a Kelarite born and raised, and you can bet that I have OPINIONS about the Emir and his rule, but this isn't like him. He's more the type to, I don't know, try to use this crisis to make out like a bandit. You know, offer Si En Kelar as the natural rendevous point for operations, and then triple all the docking fees. Stuff like that. Threats of violence aren't his thing. This isn't Adhikaar, or Kaldion or something."
Vul: "I'd also like, not invite the violent pro wolf cult to the announcement that you are going to kill anyone who isn't going to go along with a somewhat anti-wolf action."
Vul:
Kaylen: "At the very least you'd think he'd be concerned about Mekanice trying to steal that role..." She shakes her head. "I didn't know that it was going to be explicitly anti-Garmera. I mean... how would you even go about that? I assumed that we'd be talking about how to make the births harmless, or freeze the process until we did know what to do. I thought that's why they'd been invited, 'cause yeah, that sounds like a terrible idea." She looks over at the woman's dead body and sighs. "Bastards. And they grabbed Oldkorion? Another person I have opinions about, but he definitely doesn't deserve to be in their hands."
Vul shrugs, "I mean, he did sorta give that statment. Though I guess my sister took him.."
Vul: "I mean, he's probably fine then?"
Vul frowns a bit, "... I mean, you know her now right?"
Perra looks around a bit, "Are they going to think we were part of all that?"
Kaylen: "Do I know... your sister? I mean, I met her before you, but it's not like we've hung out. She seemed nice, though, and interested in what we do." She shrugs. "I hope the Prof is ok, but this whole situation is wacky. I can't predict crazy, right?" She shrugs again. "I mean, I don't know exactly what happened or how it looked, but there are a bunch of guards and glitterati in this room, and none of them are currently bothering you, so my guess is that they don't suspect you."
Vul:
Vul: "I mean, I suppose we could go home but then we wouldn't know whats going on at all..."
Kaylen: "Hell yes we can. Want to go to my dorm room? It's private, and most people have probably forgotten it exists."
Vul snerks a bit at that, "Sorry..."
Vul: "Ya that probably would work... They'd announce something right?"
Perra: "I would think so."
Kaylen: "I'm pretty sure these folks will take care of that. About a thousand angry missives are about to hit the Ruby Palace."
Vul: "The dead person, they aren't too important are they?"
Vul frowns, "I feel bad but I mean, how do you even go about saving people in that situation?"
Kaylen: "Honestly, I have no idea who that is. I don't exactly travel in those circles. And don't blame yourself, ok? You're not the ones who slit her throat. Full blame to the cult. If they want to inflict casualties, they'll do so, and unfortunately there's basically nothing you can do about it." Her mouth compresses into an angry line. "Follow me, all right?" She takes off at a brisk pace, essentially speedwalking through the corridors just short of calling attention to herself with her speed. When you finally reach a less ornamented part of the observatory building, containing long rows of locked doors, she's breathing a bit faster than usual. She quickly unlocks the door and gestures for you to get inside.
Vul leads Perra along by her hand
The inside of Kaylen's room is tiny; a cramped shoebox with a folding bed and piled high with a truly astonishing array of unfamiliar equipment, except for the desk, which is pristinely organized and holds a large chart covered in long equations written in a cramped, messy hand.
Perra: "They... don't give you a lot of room here."
Kaylen: "Welcome to where I sleep when the critters allow me to. We're about as private here as it gets in this place." She nods to Perra. "Remember how I'm a Page, and not a Fellow like I definitely deserve? This is what Pages get."
Perra: "Oh..."
Vul turns into a fuzzy tiny fairydragon, "There, more room."
Kaylen: "Technically I could live elsewhere, but I can't afford to live anywhere near here, so it's not practical." She smiles. "Cute! Thanks for the help. Go ahead and sit on the bed or whatever. Or on the desk chair. Just don't touch the diagrams, kay?"
Vul flutters up to normal person hight
Vul then perches on the chair back "Thanks! Though I guess dragons aren't suposed to be cute... Um... you don't suppose Ra'ven is a Silverfang cultist right?"
Kaylen: "Is it weird that now I want to give you scritches? I used to have a pet Tuatara, so I've got some affection for the scaly critters."
Vul tilts his head, "No I have a small dragon as welll that I'm caring for."
Vul: "Feel free if you want?"
Vul tilts his head, "I think I'm supposed to have a poison bite or something but poison is really hard...."
Kaylen: "Oh, cool." She scratches you briefly behind one of your head fringes. "Yeah, I don't know much about shapechanging, but it kinda sounds like it would be difficult to make your body secrete poison, but have the poison not revert back when you change again. Ok, you're away from the filthy lucre. What can I do to help?"
Perra shakes her head, "I don't know, I think mostly I just didn't want to be around back there incase they started thinking we were involed in all that."
Vul: "Also a lotta people were still panicky..." he frowns, "I... am a fox you know? It's unplsent to be surrounded by that."
Kaylen: "Well, I think you're probably clear for the moment at least. Honest, though, I can't guarantee that somebody doesn't remember you later and want answers. I wouldn't want to be there while everything is running hot either. That type can turn on you quick."
Vul: "Oh I woudl also like answers too.. like why the threat and the like... And at that time too... You'd think it'd be after everyone got around to reacting as a 'by the way' at the end..."
Kaylen: (Uh, I'm not sure how to interpret that sentence. Can you clarify?)
=^v^=: (( vul tinks that if you are goign to threatne someone to obey you should wait till the end of the conference, not the begining ))
Kaylen: "Maybe he thought it would make people pay more attention. I mean, I could have told him that's not what would happen, but I don't really keep in touch with the Emir anymore." She pauses. "That's a joke; I don't know him."
Vul looks to Perra, "You doing okay?"
Kaylen: "Hmm. Well, I can try to smooth things over with Okorion's second. He'll know that you were invited, so he might be able to extend some protection, for a little while at least. But honestly, if you want to really let people know that you aren't with them, the best thing would be to get prof back, so he can vouch for you." She looks at Perra as well. "Yeah... do you need a drink? I've got a decanter around here somewhere..."
Perra sighs and nods, "Yeah I'm okay, still a little shaken but I'll be fine."
Perra -.-
Perra: "She's got me convinced."
Vul adds in the dialog that Ra'ven had with the cult leader
Kaylen: "Huh. Well, no offense, but if your sister or the others in your group really are with them, then things are a lot more complicated. Do you think it's likely? The words are convincing, but I assume you know her better than me."
Kaylen points at Perra with her thumb. "It's not great for the cause that you were convinced, though. Not a good look."
Kaylen: "Ok. Sheesh. So, what, gonna make plans for both scenarios?"
Vul: "Like, it's not wierd for her to be in a cult that worships the wolf, that's sorta a thing for her, but to secretly be in that one seems out of it? I mean she tried to save some random theifs...
Vul hmms
Kaylen: "Worshipping Garmera isn't a crime. It's only when you start killing people who disagree that I start to go "whoa, I did not sign up for this."
Vul: 'No, I think I shoud trust the rest of them."
Perra: "I'm pretty sure Eileen isn't part of any cult, she never seemed the type."
Vul: "I mean she seems to still only hurt 'bad' people...."
Vul: "Though I guess she used to try to not hurt anyone, but, you know, that's easier when there aren't bad people?"
Kaylen: "Okay then. So if the rest aren't part of it, we can probably trust them to beat your sister unconscious and bring her back, if she's dangerous. Right? There is an uncomfortable amount of uncertainty right now."
Kaylen: "I mean, I don't want her hurt, but that's a hell of a lot better than dead, or hurting others."
Vul hmms, "I mean they probably would have issues catching her if she didn't wanna be caught but..."
Vul perks up, "Oh right!"
Vul: "Only that one person died!"
Vul: "That's good right?"
Kaylen: "Not as good as zero, lots better than two."
Perra nds
Vul: "Ya but the threat was to keep killing random people till his demands were met"
Vul: "And they got stopped at the one."
Vul: "Plus a lot of the hidden ones just... left?"
Perra: "Yeah but your sister only got them to stop by calling them fools for doing it so openly."
Vul: 'I mean it worked? She's sorta... confident?"
Kaylen: "Uh, no offense, but I'm not sure that IS a good thing. I mean, what if they decide to make good on their threat, but by targeting people not in the room? I mean, they could have people embedded as servants, ready to continue the muderin'."
Perra: "That's what there leader said."
Vul:
Kaylen: "Oh great. I can think like a psycho cultist. Yay me."
Vul: "A bunch of servents left too though, maybe some were left behind?"
Vul: "I mean how big is this cult here?"
Vul: "Though... I'm pretty sure their cult didn't know Ra'ven?"
Kaylen: "Yeah, can't save everyone, but I'm just saying that it might be too early to celebrate." She shrugs, an expression of frustration crossing her face. "Nobody really knows. They don't advertise their numbers, but they really are everywhere. I did a statistical analysis once, based on sighting distributions an' such, though. If my figures hold up, they honestly might have more members in total than any of the Lansiri philosophies. And there are definitely an above average number in this city. Proximity and all."
Perra: -.-
Kaylen: "Not knowing your sister could be a good sign, but they also operate in separate groups with minimal contact between each other. She's not from this city, so if she joined up elsewhere, there's probably no reason the cult here would know about it.
Vul nods, "So even if she was a Silverfang Cultist secretly I'm pretty sure she wasn't actually part of the kill important people here plot."
Kaylen: "I think that's a given, since she stopped them from doing it. The issue is how she'll react to whatever you decide to do about this."
Vul: "And it sorta looked like she tried to save the Dean a little before re-kidnapping him."
Kaylen: "Ok, so non-cultist or at least semi-goodish cultist. That can be worked with, right?"
Perra nods at Vul, "THey could just decide that were part of cult regardless."
Vul nods, "But I mean, even if we were it'd be wierd to think we were part of the plot?"
Vul: "You didn't even know the announcement right? And you work here and have longtime connections..." he looks to Kay
Kaylen: "I had no idea about the announcement. Oldkorion doesn't keep me in the loop with that sort of thing. Well, I was thinking that maybe you could investigate the Emir. His position is cuckoo, and it makes me wonder if somebody is manipulating both of them. If so, you might turn up a lead or two."
Kaylen: "Look, I'm not a detective, and I'm not an adventurer. I don't know the proper procedures, but I do know that when you're untying a tight knot, if one bit is stuck you move on to a different bit, and sometimes that's enough to make the whole thing unravel."
Perra: "Threating to bar any nation from the city if they don't help and only letting the back in after there delegation is excutied is a bit much."
Perra: "But were would we even start... not like we know is Emir either..."
Vul nods, "They sound more important then just being all, "I'm very cute and also curious can I ask you questions?' working."
Kaylen: "Dunno. Shadow some of his advisors? Climb a wall and sneak in? It's definitely a hard target, but I think it's possible, as long as you have a way of cloaking yourself from his detection wards."
Vul: "Oh I could just fly in if it's not like your door that zaps you into your normal form?"
Kaylen: "I'd normally say go for the connections, but I don't think you have time for that... I'll bet you anything that he does have one of those, but if you can cloak yourself somehow and get inside, it shouldn't matter. The one we have at least isn't a continuous field. It just hits you when you pass the threshold. Once you're inside, you'd be able to shapechange again."
Kaylen: "You guys seem pretty tough when it comes to fighting, so as long as you don't alert the whole place, I think it'd be survivable."
Vul: "You think he'll make a statment in person?"
Perra: "Guess we can give it a try...?"
Vul: "Or just have a messager?"
Perra: "I don't think we'd want to try and question them derictly."
Kaylen: "If you corner him, maybe. Or you could find documents, or... well, whatever. Clues in general. I mean, let's be honest, I don't even know if you'll find ANYTHING. But it's worth a shot."
Vul: "Well if we weren't going to ask him, it'd be better if he wasn't there..."
Vul hmms, "Where would we even go to find like, his corrispondence or notes or the like? A study?"
Kaylen: "That's gonna be a trick to manage, I think. Not impossible, but you'd need some way of luring him out. This whole shitshow might help and make him think that he needs to take personal charge, or it might make him paranoid and lock him in place even more. My best guess would be the former, but a few additional incentives might be useful." She nods. "I mean, he'll have one. There's got to be some kind of room where he keeps secret documents, right?"
Vul nods, "Also are there like, cats in the area or pets of that nature?"
Kaylen: "He's a greedy bastard, but he's a smart greedy bastard, and not a coward either, from what I hear." She smiles. "Yeah, course. I mean, you know how much cheaper it is to have some cats around instead of putting up a permanent anti-vermin field?"
Vul nods, "I mean, I can turn into a cat and Perra looks exactly like someone who would be all, 'no come back here kitty.' right?"
Perra tilts her head.
Vul: "i've had that work at least twice..."
Vul nods, "I mean I had to dodge more rocks then that, but we are inside, there aren't rocks."
Kaylen: "Well, I think anyone can look like that, but I get the point. Still, remember that trick won't get you in the door. The palace guards will just tell you to fuck off and get a new cat."
Vul: "... that's pretty mean..."
Kaylen: "Once inside, though, especially if you find a way to blend in, that could go a long way."
Kaylen: "Well, yeah. But they're palace guards. They're practically paid to be mean."
Vul: "The ones in stories are paid to look nice."
Vul pouts slightly
Vul: it's v cute cause he's a tiny dragon
Kaylen: "Oh, they look okay. Nice fancy uniforms. And EXTREMELY sharp weapons to use if someone tries to go in without permission. No warnings either."
Vul frowns and looks to Perra, "... is... that alright with you?"
Perra: "I guess we can try... maybe jump the wall if we can't get in the front... though there probably ready for something like that to."
Perra: "I'm... not really a great lier, but we can try yeah."
Vul: "I mean the danger..."
Kaylen: "But they're as stupid as guards anywhere. I'm pretty sure there'll be holes in their security. If you know anyone that's good at sneaking and scouting maybe you can figure out what they are."
Vul frowns, "... that'd be Ra'ven..."
Perra ponders a moment, "What about that group we helped... or that guy Ra brought back to the manor... all though I don't know how wewould find him."
Vul hmms, "A..actually... huh... Alsyne, Io and Tyth... are all basically bad at that huh..."
Vul: "... I mean, ya, the smugglers would probably have sneaky people?"
Kaylen: "Hmm. I knew a guy once. Used to live on the telescope. I could try to track him down, but I'm not sure where he went off to. He might take a bit to find."
Vul: "But they also might not want to piss off the ruler of the land... but we did save their families..."
Kaylen: "Sounds like you've got an interesting relationship with these smugglers."
Perra: "Can't hurt to ask, wrost they can do is say no. Wouldn't blame them for saying no."
Vul nods, "Plus they almost certinally can be trusted to not sell us out for sayig no."
Kaylen: "Cool. That sounds like a plan. For me, I'll try to track down Tumble. He's an amazing sneak. He only got caught here because one day he decided to go down to the cafeteria and order a meal."
Vul: "Maybe grab Io and tell everyone what's going on too, since they are portable and sorta shadowy colored..."
Perra: "If were sneaking in we should try and keep our own numbers down, harder to get a whole group in then just a couple of people."
Vul: >.>
Vul:
Perra nods at Kaylen, "Is there some way we can contact you without having to come back here and try and find you again?"
Vul does give the impression he is pretty worried
Kaylen: "Sure. Uh... do you want me to come with? If there are any clues that are technical in nature, I can probably identify what's important. Yeah, keeping it down isn't a bad idea, but Tumble wouldn't be a liability, trust me. And I'll just wear my society robes. We've got people going in and out of the palace all the time these days."
Vul perks up
Perra: "....could we just borrow some robes then?"
Vul: "Wait you have an inconspicioius uniform with a hood?"
Kaylen: ".....Yeah. I cannot believe that I didn't think of that before now. Wow, it's like my street smarts just fucking whithered and died."
Vul: "That's a good sign though!"
Vul: 'if 'an outsider dressing up in these robes' is not even a thing that crosses your mind on sneaking in."
Kaylen: "Yeah, I can absolutely get you some robes. You'll still need to sneak in, but once you're inside you shouldn't attract too much attention."
Vul: "Also I would imagine the guards are going to be pretty streched soon."
Kaylen: "That makes sense, yeah."
Vul: "So they are probably going to be on aleart but like, it's not like there aren't tons of peole they are obligated to protect and who will also be probably indignatly demanding their attention..."
Vul: "We just need to find some particularly obnoixously demanding important person making a scene..."
Perra: "To bad the only person weknow like that went with them..." >.>
Vul: "Nah he'd be let in... We'd need someone who wouldn't be, but also couldn't be just made to go away."
Kaylen: "Yeah, I agree. I'd expect a nice big cluster out front to intercept pissed off dignitaries. Which means fewer elsewhere. And if we CAN make a scene, that'll be even more true. Now I just need to think of someone really obnoxious." She thinks for a moment. "Hmm. General Kalkon, from Cor Falca, is here. He's a hothead, and a COMPLETE asshole. I know this because he literally berated me for fifteen minutes when I wouldn't let him in early. I could arrange for some whispering in his ear so that he goes hopping mad."
Vul nods
Perra nods as well
Vul: "oh something like there is a list for people being able to see the Emir?"
vonel: (( Going to Oceans 11 this shit. ))
Vul: "With an order of who can?"
Vul: "And maybe he is below someone annoying to him?"
Kaylen: "Oh wow. WOW."
Kaylen giggles. "He's going to be SO pissed off."
Vul: "incorrectly ordered lists is a big big nono in courtly manners right?:"
Kaylen: (Hell yeah oceans 11. Just make sure that it's 11 and not 12.)
Perra: "Yeah."
=^v^=: (( and that we aren't doing a rick and morty and makign a robot that shoots people with a dart that makes people do a heist movie ))
Kaylen: "I can make this happen. Give me a couple of hours to set that up and see if I can find Tumble."
Kaylen: ((Non-spoiler: Tumble is obviously Fallen.))
vonel: (( I was figuring that ))
Vul nods, "I mean we can stay here and wait right?" he looks to Perra
Perra: "Should we tell the others what happened? If it's going to take a couple of hours to get set up we could deuck back to the manor and then either come back here or meet up some were else?"
Vul looks to Kaylen, "You think it's... travelable to do that?":
Kaylen: "Well, I don't know where "the manor" is, so I don't know. But if you hurry, you can probably make it. Okay, on the far edge of the Brass Quarter is a gate to the Crimson Ring. That's where the Ruby Palace is. Inside of that are some very expensive shops and restaurants, among other things. Meet me at "Manta and Bone." It's an absurdly expensive restaurant, so you can either order something or just pretend to be disgusted by the prices."
Kaylen: "Or hell, ACTUALLY be disgusted by the prices. Fuck knows it's deserved."
Vul: 0.0
Vul: "... I do like fancy food... but we don't have time or money if it's as expensive as you say..."
Vul sighs, "I'm not dressed for a fancy meal anyways..."
Kaylen: "Well, maybe another time, then. I've never actually eaten there before, but I keep hearing people talk it up, so maybe some day."
Perra nods
Vul stands up and poofs back into normal person size
Kaylen: "Awesome. I really wish I could do that. Anyway, I'll get moving. You get moving too. And we'll meet up there. Deal?"
Perra: "Deal."
Unknown command: "ne nods, "It's extremely handy, it's why I'm the best fox."". Try /help for a list of commands.
Vul nods, "It's extremely handy, it's why I'm the best fox."
Kaylen: "Hey, I'm not gonna argue! Good luck on your end. I need to call in a couple of favors. See ya!" She rushes out of the room, then sticks her head back in a moment later. "Lock up when you're done here, and please don't break shit, okay? It's taken me years to scrounge up all of this old equipment for my own use."
Vul nods, "You ready to go Perra?"
Perra: "Yep."
Vul offers a hand again, "lets hurry."
Kaylen: ((Ok! Anyone else think that's good for now?))
vonel: (( Yep, all good here. ))
=^v^=: (( sure ))
Kaylen: Kay then. Gnight!
Vul: yep
Vul: poor ra'ven prob going to have worse nightmares after all said and done
Vul remains lucky
vonel is disconnected.
