vonel: yo
Ra'ven: others are currently afk brb etc
Ganaroth?: Whew. Ok, just like a minute or half, and I'm there. Just needed to finish a thing. (not videogame related.)
Riot: back
Ra'ven: wb
vonel: wb
Ganaroth?: Ok, am here!
Riot: Also hi Von!
vonel: hi
Ganaroth?: Heyo everyone. Sorry for the previous abscence. I, uh, was not feeling good. At all. Honestly, that whole week was basically one of the most startlingly unpleasant weeks I've been through. I can give the full description on request, but suffice to say that it was almost a full week of continuous physical and emotional torture, and certain aspects of my life are probably now permanently fucked. So that's what I was doing, but I hope (I know, I know...) to be able to attend more consistently than that. But aside from that, how are you folks?
vonel: I'm good
Ganaroth?: Well, I'm glad to hear that.
Ra'ven: a fox made it through the mail
Ra'ven: it is good
Ganaroth?: Woo foxes!
Ganaroth?: So, people want to start playing now?
vonel: sure
Riot: Sure
Ra'ven: i like gaem
Ra'ven: we should resume questioning the dean of bad decisions why he made bad decisions/is he posssessed
Ganaroth?: Cool. Starting it up.
Last time on D&D, the summit finally began... and was almost immediately interrupted. Professor Okorion gave a general rundown to the assembled dignataries gathered from all over the world, and explained the dire situation that the world has found itself in with regards to Garmera's condition. He outlined several necessary actions and areas of inquiry that needed to be taken to ameliorate the coming disaster, as well as some of the inevitable affects. However, the representative of The Silverfang cult, invited because of the cult's extensive and unique knowledge of Garmera, chose to instead knock Okorion out while he was speaking, and take the entire room hostage. Thinking quickly, Ra'ven claimed to be a higher ranking member of the cult, outraged that Vayak, the cultist leader, had ruined ongoing plans, and Vayak was convinced enough to withdraw, taking Professor Okorion and all of you besides Perra and Vul along with him. You rushed to the roof, where he activated a device that summoned a vortex similar to what is seen during a Yawn, and all of you were transported elsewhere. Specifically, you've now ended up in the dining room of some unknown but clearly affluent home, alongside the other members of the cult that escaped.
Riot: Dunno if that travel was weird for anyone else, but this is what Lucky experienced:
Riot: "The vortex of unreality engulfs you, and for a moment your view of time and space are distored. It isn't as though you've stepped through a portal, per se. Rather, in the moment it surrounds you, you get the distinct feeling that here all times and places are simply one and the same, as though the entirety of the universe and time have been compressed, and now impinge upon the reality that you know. The world is seen in a montage of single frame flashes, accompanied by momentary feelings or thoughts about what you sense, fleeting but intense. You can see your bar, in the first days that you came to own it. You can see images of a war that you don't recognize, but the sight of the soldiers fills you with rage and defiance. You can see visions of nightmarish destruction, and desperate attempts to save others. You can see yourself being taken in by a pair of elderly, but clearly wealthy individuals, though you aren't certain why. You can see your first kill, a young man with your dagger in his throat, though you recognize neither the man nor the dagger, nor the reason you might have done this, other than a sense of satisfaction. You can feel an aching emptiness in you, and the desperate need to fill it with something, anything. You see scenes of your recent adventures, from multiple angles. You see, somehow, you entering your bar and speaking to yourself, from a completely different point of view, and the scene is so familiar somewhow. You see no visions of anything in your life before the time you purchased your bar. The entire vision, comprehensive in so many ways, simply doesn't show you anything from that period. You are, however, left with a contradictory simultaneous feeling of both familiarity and alienation; both deja vu and jamais vu."
Ganaroth?: (It is very possible, even probable, that others of you also experienced flashbacks of your own lives, similar in nature. It's a bit disorienting. The memories for the rest of you are essentially familiar, though, except that Ra'ven sees a momentary glimpse of what might actually have been the path she took to leave her home.)
Ganaroth?: (I'm going to move you guys over to the current location. It's on the same map.)
Riot: (ok)
Ra'ven shakes/blinks it off, "I can see how following such a blink backwards would confound."
Asger Vayak: "Yeah. Honestly, you're doing well to not be vomiting, if this is your first time. I puked my internals out on my first trip. All the things you see..."
Yltheria is shaking. Expressionless, but she's trembling hard enough that she almost drops her staff. Hector quickly envelops her in a tight hug, whispering "It's okay, It's okay. You're not there. Come on back..."
Rai Patience Cantor suddenly vomits, a horrified expression on her face. Her gaze darts around, but it's difficult to tell exactly what or whom she is looking at.
Eileen rubs her head
Asger Vayak: "Yeah, there it is. No shame, sister."
Lucky stumbles, confused, grabbing on to the nearest person to keep herself from falling. Her eyes are unfocused, lost. When they refocus, she is staring at Patience, and her face screws up in a weird look of recognition, before she doubles over and vomits as well.
Ra'ven:
Ra'ven: "Like falling down a flight of stairs to not leave footprints, except brilliant?"
Clarity: "That... was not fun."
Clarity looks down at Lucky, who is on her knees with her hand still in an iron grip on Clarity's wrist.
Asger Vayak: "I wish I could take credit, because yes, this thing has been an incredible boon. I'm not a wizard, but one of our close allies made this for us. It COMPLETELY shreds any traces of the teleport. As far as we can tell, without some way of reconstructing chaos, it's not only practically untraceable, it's also theoretically untraceable. Nobody we know even has an idea where to begin doing something like that."
Asger Vayak: "All of which means that you're safe here. They can't follow us."
Ra'ven nods, "Well, they can't follow us at least, since I rightfully don't know where this is, I can't speak of their ability to discover it otherwise..." She sighs, "Though, It does seem we might need a bit to... recover?"
Clarity: (did we already get moved?)
vonel: (( Yeah were hanging out next to a giant table and some gaint pillows. ))
Riot: (( oh duh I loaded in to the wrong map ))
Riot: (( although I must be blind because I do not see us ))
Rai Patience Cantor wipes her mouth, grimacing. "That's good to know. Frankly, I can't afford to be caught at this time. Luckily, I believe that my disguise held up. Nobody in that crowd should have been able to see my true face." If you didn't know otherwise, you'd swear that no lie just crossed her lips.
Riot: (( okay thanks ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (np!)
Riot: (( I could have just clicked my token but I didn't think of it ))
Rai Patience Cantor:
=^v^=: (( it only works if you are on the same map and were moved, but ya. Plus it doesn't work for gm ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Yes it does? I can double click on any token in the map explorer, and it will take me right there.)
=^v^=: (( oh that does, I meant the hud one with the health bars etc ))
Hector Achilon: (Oh, okay.)
Clarity looks curiously at Patience after her remark, but doesn't comment.
Ra'ven sighs, "I do hope they will see reason, or at least expediance and just... disavow his statment when things calm down a bit." she shoots a gesture at the kidnapped prof
Ra'ven: "After all, he's a colaborator right? He escaped with us.." she smirks
Asger Vayak: "Oh, good. I have to admit, I was worried that I'd compromised everyone's cover. The rest of you were playing as guards, so probably nobody got a good look at you, but someone in the crowd joining in would definitely cause attention." He sneers at the professor. "This moron. Ethereologists know absolutely everything about Garmera and the storms, right up until they don't. Blind spots you could fly twelve airships across through." He laughs. "Well, we'll see if they believe that. I, uh, did sorta knock him out in front of everyone, but if we plant a little evidence, we should be able to convince people that it was an act. And yes, then hopefull they'll reconsider this idiocy."
Ra'ven:
Clarity: "I still don't understand why the Emir would threaten representatives from nearly every living society and his own upper crust with death if they didn't immediately start contributing."
Asger Vayak sighs. "If we had the numbers, we could take more direct action to stop this, but as it is, our best course of action is making everyone else think twice about the consequences." He shrugs. "I couldn't say. It seemed... extreme, even to me. But it's one more reason we can be sure that we're the good guys this time. His message is "join or die." Ours is "as you were." For a lot of people in that audience, I know which one will be easier to believe in. He's obviously deadly concerned about this shit, but it looks like that concern is making him panic. All the better for us, though I wouldn't mind knowing the reasons."
Ra'ven nods, "I mean, if you go along with the idea that his statment was part of your plan, then it looks like we have more influnce then otherwise and staged this whole things as a dire warning, right?"
Ra'ven: "If your plan is something like this, you'll sound as bad as that and this will happen to you"
Asger Vayak mulls that over. "It's almost too much. Some people aren't going to believe that we have the influence to arrange a demonstration on this scale. But there are people who will, and if so, that'll drive a wedge between the two groups. Heh. Not at all bad. I wish you'd been working with my cell during the planning. You seem to have a good sense of the optics. Honestly, it playing out the way it did might have been best for all of us."
Asger Vayak offers his hand for a shake. "Glad to meet all of you. I always assumed that there was a second cell here in the city. It's a big place, and there have been indications over the years of someone else doing jobs that align with us. Never thought I'd actually get acquianted, though. My name's Alpha Vayak. Er, Asger Vayak, to those on the same level. Welcome to our base." He indicates the richly appointed room. "Vaz! Go get our host. He'll want to know why we're back so soon."
A half-orc man, presumably Vaz, immediately leaves.
Ra'ven nods, "Ra'ven."
Asger Vayak sits down on one of the nearby plush cushion and groans. "It was a lot of running without even a decent scrap at the end, though. Even if it's a good result, it's a bit frustrating." He eyes Eileen, as well as Hector and Yltheria. "You're a pretty conspicuous bunch. Hiding in plain sight, huh? Lemme guess; you're a small, elite unit. Troubleshooters. Back in the day, I always wanted to be part of that kind of pack. How is it?" He nods "Good to meet you, Sister Ra'ven"
Ra'ven nods, "Blending in by not blending in works occasionally..." she sighs, "Might be rather... tricky to go back to things."
Ra'ven wonders if Hector can get a read on if the prof is possessed or not
Lucky: "We could probably spin it as a chase, if nothing else."
Asger Vayak: "Yeah, for some of you. You, the warforged. You'll have the worst of it, then you, Ra'ven. The others should be able to get by with a change of clothes, or in the case of the kid, just waiting a couple of years." He nods. Hmm, yeah. I don't think that she said anything aligning her with us. If we bang her up some, and then drop her off elsewhere, she could spin it that way. Wouldn't work for you, though, Ra'ven. We might have to get you a permanent alteration, or at least a relocation."
Lucky: "Bang who up some?"
Asger Vayak: "Your warforged friend, there." He points at Eileen. "I mean, we're not going to try to hurt you are anything. We'll do what we can to make it as painless as possible, but if we dent and bend her a bit, it'll look like she pursued us and failed. Then she can get fixed up again."
Lucky looks uncertainly at Eileen
Asger Vayak: "It's even more believable than doing it to a human or genasi, since warforged can't bleed to death. It'll just look like we ran before the job was quite finished."
Ra'ven: "Well, we did leave a few behind, so it's not like we completely need to do that right now, might see how this plays out a bit?"
Eileen snorts, "I'm not exactly big on just letting people wail on me, I'll bite back and someone is going to regret that."
Ra'ven: "I do have to confess this little outing to your place wasn't planned. I have faith in my companions behind but... I didn't explain this?"
Asger Vayak: "Oh, of course. I didn't mean NOW." He chuckles. "No, I think we should probably have a meeting, our host and us, and figure out where we go from there, and beating the shit out of you first would not be helpful." He nods, understandingly. "If you think you can do it to yourself, that would also be fine. Nobody is going to check that closely anyway. We have some Astral Glint here, which you're welcome to. That should take care of most of the pain." (Astral Glint is a powdered mineral, mostly sourced from Mekanice, that acts as a powerful painkiller. It's expensive, and because it can heighten agression it's restricted in many places, here included.)
Asger Vayak: "Yeah, I'm sorry about that. It's a special bit of equipment that, as far as I know, is exclusive to this pack. I've sent a report to The Howling, but they want a few more field tests before they're willing to invest in making it standard. There's no way you would have known about it."
Ra'ven nods, "I AM glad you did have a way out at least... It was a bit concerning given the runup."
after a few minutes of small talk along these lines, Vaz returns, accompanied by a tall, somewhat portly genasi man, bald and with facial hair that flickers and glows like licking flames. His scowl makes evident his feelings on the current situation. (brb)
Asger Vayak:
Asger Vayak: "We try to plan it all out... but I'll be honest, once you started laying into me, I started sweating too."
Pasha Phlegon enters now. "Yayak! Great golden eyes, why are you back so soon? What in the abyss happened! I was going over the ledgers when your man Vaz barges in, saying that things didn't go as planned..." He notices the party. "And who are they? I AM capable of remembering the faces of your men, you know, and I don't appreciate other people being involved without my knowedge and consent."
Ra'ven totally keeps her trap closed for Asger to talk
Asger Vayak sighs. "Hello, Pasha. These are members of the Si En Kelar Predator Pack. They... confronted me about my presence at the summit, and we withdrew. Still, I think the primary objectives were more or less completed. And we have an important hostage, now!" He thows a smaller pillow over from where he is sitting, to strike the unconscious professor in the head.
Asger Vayak: "He's a moron, of course, but a respected one. He'll be valuable."
Pasha Phlegon: "Tch. You're sloppy, Vayak. I keep telling you so. You mean to tell me that the secondary pack had other plans, and you didn't bother to confirm?" He shakes his head. "Outside a battlefield, you have less strategy in you than any leader I've ever known." He glares at him, before slightly softening that gaze as he turns to you. "Hmmph. Well, my name is Phlegon, Pasha of the second rank, and a Silverfang patron. You're welcome to my home, I suppose. It's hardly your fault, after all."
Pasha Phlegon: "Not as aware as I'd like. I know that there have been changes in Great Garmera recently, and that the Ethereologists knew enough to be very concerned. Given their attitudes, I'll expect that some kind of extreme foolishness was being considered."
Ra'ven gestures Asger to say it, since she's trying to do that defer to who's home/op thing she expects is proper
Asger Vayak: "It was pretty close to the worst-case scenario. They were within half a breath of declaring war on Her. It seems like our third option was right after all: pregnancy." He laughs. "A joyous thing, without a doubt, but obviously they don't see it that way. This man was already talking about how to prevent it, or restrict the pups in some way. As though he could, but we can't allow him to even try."
Ra'ven: "They also backed it with a threat."
Pasha Phlegon: "Lovely. Pardon if I don't quite share your enthusiasm. It wonderful that she's having children finally, of course, but it's also the most difficult and labor-intensive outcome for me. There are simply too many things to be secured." He raises a flickering eyebrow. "A threat?"
Ra'ven: "That everyone there must put all their effort into assisting stopping Her and anyone who wouldn't would be condemed to death. Furthermore wheever they came from would be cut off from the city untill said death, I believe."
Pasha Phlegon stares at you, then at Vayak, who nods. "This is insane. Even if he refuses to acknowledge the sublime and supreme existence, saying that sort of thing will only make it harder to accomplish his goals, and at the same time will ruin and impoverish this city. It's political and economic suicide. It's also likely to be PHYSICAL suicide, once whomever is running Adhikaar these days hears about it."
Pasha Phlegon: "Those barbarian send assassins as a housewarming gift."
Ra'ven nods, "Which is why we are going to ask him why that was said. Also.." she looks to Asger, "Should I explain my idea?"
Asger Vayak: "Please do. You're running that show, as far as I'm concerned."
Ra'ven: "I beleve it might be a good idea to take credit for him saying it, as an example of a stupid plan and what happend when you do it?"
Ra'ven: "It shoud, in theory, obligate the city to pretend this wasn't the plan, which if it for some reason WAS, would throw it in more disarray, It'd send a message that we can walk in and stage such a show in the middle of such an important task as well."
Ra'ven: "More to my use, it would make whoever put this guy up to that speach rather nervious that we have him and maybe make it easier to root them out."
Pasha Phlegon: "Oh... oh my." He chuckles. "Delicious, actually. Turning their own insanity against them. Hah, even the suggestion that the Emir is somehow taking orders from us may paralyze the other groups and nations. Nobody will want to risk confronting Si En Kelar if they aren't certain who is giving the orders. They won't want to comply because it might not really be the Emirate, but they also won't want to ignore it, just in case it is." He chuckles again. "I honestly never thought that I'd be capitalizing on our poor reputation and their ignorance in such a way."
Pasha Phlegon: "And if they are startled by the apparent reach of our fangs, well, all the better."
Ra'ven: "I figured it was worth the risk and rudeness of interfeering."
Ra'ven waves at the unconsious guys, "Although we were obligated to anyways, being part of his guards."
Lucky: ((brb))
=^v^=: (( I'm still super amused how all of this isn't lies ))
=^v^=: (( the 100% sincere "I actually just made stuff up because I didn't wanna have to fight and probably kill all of you like I was obligated to do" ))
Pasha Phlegon: "I agree with you. The original plan was obsoleted as soon as the Emir lost his mind." He gives an appreciative nod. "You embedded yourself that well? Well done indeed. You were in the perfect position to prevent a colossal blunder. Now, I don't do this for just anyone, but considering the circumstances, and your service to the cause, I am willing to open my home to you until things have quieted enough that it's safe for you to leave. You may rest assured, both I and the household staff are devout followers. You will be safe. And if there is anything else I can do- replenish any of your supplies or the like, you only need to ask. We may be from different packs, but in the end we are all part of the same pack, after all."
Pasha Phlegon: ((It is kinda funny, though.))
Pasha Phlegon: ((funny, *yeah.))
Pasha Phlegon: ((I don't know why I typed "though."))
Ra'ven gives smuuug nod back to patience
Rai Patience Cantor displays a flicker of irritation, but otherwise simply nods to you in acknowledgment. "I hate to mention this, Pasha, but a mess has been made in your lovely dining room as a result of the transport. May I suggest fetching a servant to take care of it?" She looks at the several pools of noisome liquid with disgust.
Pasha Phlegon: "It's not unusual, and no apologies are necessary." He produces a tiny bell from his pocket, and rings it. Off in the distance, you can barely hear the toll of a much larger bell ringing in response. "Done. Might I know the names of my guests?"
Ra'ven: "Ra'ven"
Eileen: "Eileen."
Lucky: "Lucky."
Clarity: "Clarity."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Patience. My name, not a request for forebearance." She points at Hector and Yltheria, and gives their names as well, since Hector is still comforting the girl. "Excellent to make your acquiantance, Pasha...?"
Pasha Phlegon: "Phlegon."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Oh? I've heard of you. You're the leader of the Incandescents, aren't you?"
Pasha Phlegon: "Yes, that's correct. A collection of petty, deluded fools, but useful in their way. All it takes is someone parroting their asinine ideology back at them, and they fall in line."
Pasha Phlegon: "Well. It seems today wasn't exactly a debacle, but it also wasn't expected. Would any of you care for an early meal, after that stress? My chefs can handle most things. I even have a larder full of terrestrial meats, if you're in the mood for something expensive."
Ra'ven: "I would expect we might want to put that off, given the effects of the escape, however something to drink would be nice."
Pasha Phlegon: "Of course, of course. How silly of me." He moves his fingertip around the outside of the bell, stopping at a particular spot, and then rings it again. The sound is somewhat different this time, and a different paired bell chimes in response. "I've sent for wine. In any case, as I said, you are free to explore the house, with the exception of any locked room, or of going outside, unless it is in one of the gardens, away from public view. I my hospitality meets with your standards."
Pasha Phlegon: I HOPE my hospitality.
Ra'ven: "Oh, speaking of locked rooms, is there perhaps a room we could use for our Dean here?"
Ra'ven: "If nothing else, as he was knocked out before our little play, he is unaware of my groups part."
Ra'ven: "If he wakes up surrounded by just us, he might have better inclination to talk..."
Pasha Phlegon: "Of course. Vayak, you can put him in the secure bedroom. Likewise ask Vayak if you need anything else. I'll be busy for some time yet, and helping you is really the least he can do for his sorry part in all of this." He shakes his head in exasperation.
Asger Vayak sighs. "Yes sir, Silverfang patron who isn't actually part of our leadership but who is too rich to ignore. I'll do that immediately." He stands up, ignoring Phlegon's obvious irritation, and thows Okorion over his shoulder, lifting the spindly man easily. "Come on." He begins walking, carting the professor along with him.
Asger Vayak:
Eileen follows
Lucky follows
Clarity follows
Ra'ven totally does follow and hopes Hector does as well, probably corralling him with Yth
Asger Vayak: (Yes, Hector and Yl follow as well, with him leading her along by the hand. Her body language makes it clear that she's still upset, but she remains essentially espressionless, and looks around at the house as she walks, curiosity vying with trauma.)
Lucky drops back and walks with Yl as well, despite clearly being pretty distraught herself
Hector Achilon whispers to the group when they are close by. "The kid saw the end of her war again. She'll be okay, but she's not handling it well right at the moment."
Ra'ven: o.0
Lucky 's eyes flick downward,. "Then we have something in common, because I saw someone else's war." She squeezes Yl's shoulder.
Ra'ven: "How far back does one go with your neat orb? The backlash seems a bit... harsh for many?" To Asger
The home itself is opulent, replete with Evenbough rosewood, gold, and amber. Whoever Phlegon is besides being a Silverfang patron and the leader of the "Incandescents," whatever that means, he's clearly absurdly wealthy. Up the broad, curved staircases and past the crystal and solidified flame chandeliers, and inside the first bedroom you see. When Yayak opens the door, you can see that while it appears identical on the outside, the door itself is made of metal, several inches thick, with only a thin wood veneer over it. He places Okorion on one of the couches inside. "The range is pretty far. Depending on the the state of the column, you could even makes jumps from Lansir or Adhikaar. But there are limitations; it's strictly from wherever the Yawning Wolf statuette is to the larger version of it that's buried under that dining room. We don't have the ability to target it yet, or to pair two portable statuettes."
Hector Achilon: (Vayak. For some reason I said Yayak. (shrugs) Dunno why.)
Ra'ven: "I mean the flashback?"
Ra'ven: "Or is the moving one backwards in memory not normally a part of it?"
Asger Vayak: "Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. No, that's normal; you get to see glimpses of your own history. Even stuff you've forgotten, sometimes. The reaction can be... well, if your life had a lot of pain in it, then you're more likely to experience it again with this than someone whose life was fun and peaceful, so it can suck. It goes back as far as... well, it's never happened to me, but my boyfriend swears that he once got a memory of him inside the womb. Ugh." He shivers, somewhat exaggeratedly.
Lucky: "Does it ever... mix up memories? Like you accidentally see someone else's?"
Asger Vayak: "Not as far as I can know. At least nobody's ever complained to me about it. Why, you see something weird?"
Lucky: "I... I guess you could say that, yeah."
Asger Vayak: "Huh. Well, I'll pass it along to the inventor, then. She'll know better than me about the technical stuff, and I'm sure she'll want to know."
Lucky nods and turns away, lost in clearly unpleasant thought.
Asger Vayak: "Anyway, hang out here as long as you need to. Give him a few smacks for me when he wakes up; I didn't really get it all out of my system with just the one punch. I need to check on my men. This didn't go as planned, so I need to go explain to them why it wasn't a failure. They're good cubs, but still cubs, you know?"
Asger Vayak turns to leave, and if nobobdy stops him, he leaves you in the room with Okorion. At the last moment, he pauses, then tosses Eileen a key. "For the door. It locks automatically." Then he leaves.
Eileen nods as she catches the key.
The door closes behind him with a heavy, audible *clunk.*
Ra'ven sighs, "Well."
Eileen: "Yeah..."
Clarity: "Might be smart to not talk about anything too sensitive. Walls could have ears."
Ra'ven: "Think the room is monitored somehow?" she shakes her head.
Rai Patience Cantor: "I would bet on it, yes. However, as luck would have it..." she nods toward Hector, who sits on the ground and begins to, as far as you can tell, meditate. Patience whispers to the rest of you. "Recall, our Hector is a member of The Order of The SILENT Gateway," and smiles.
Ra'ven: "Handy, then..."
After a few minutes, Hector coughs, and gets up from his position. "Okay, nobody outside this room can here anything that goes on inside, even with most kinds of scrying. Downside is that we can't hear anything outside of this room, even with most scrying, so keep an eye on the door so we don't get jumped, right?"
Ra'ven nods, "So... um... I guess this happened huh?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "It certainly did."
Ra'ven looks suddenly sheepish, which is a strange look for someone of her looks
Eileen leans agaisnt the door as sort of an early alarm, "Yep."
Ra'ven: "I mean, it sorta worked out in a way, right?"
Rai Patience Cantor looks at Ra'ven curiously. "I must admit, I hadn't considered that you might be quick witted to that extent. Frankly, I was ready to jump straight to violence." She nods. "Yes... I'd say that it worked. Better than I could have hoped for."
Ra'ven frowns, "I mean, it's not as though we really know eachother that much, perhaps Vul didn't extol that but..." she hmms, "I mean it was rather lucky."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Now, instead of fighting this group while surrounded and with huge numbers weal... I mean innocent bystanders, we find ourselves already inside the gates of their fortress, amidst all of their secrets."
Ra'ven: "I didn't really have time to lie, so I tried the truth."
Rai Patience Cantor: (huge numbers OF wealthy etc.)
Rai Patience Cantor: "The truth is oftentimes merely a lie that can't be falsified. Don't think poorly of yourself."
Ra'ven: "Oh no it's admitting I didn't have much other then that."
Eileen: "We are were we are, and it sounds like you've already got a plan to make the most of it."
Ra'ven: "It was obviously a good idea..."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Then it seems you played a mediocre hand with great skill."
Ra'ven: "But it was rather lucky it was a good one for this."
Clarity: "I'd say so, considering the only viable hand I saw there was violence, too. Insanely smart."
Ra'ven: "I suppose you all did follow me and I guess I'm now a leader of our cell?"
Ra'ven:
Rai Patience Cantor: "Oh yes, Eileen, although as usual I would have your aid in formulating the specifics. It's more accurate to say that I have an idea, rather than a plan. We'll first need to explore, and take note of any locked doors we can find, to scout possible locations for sensitive documents or materials. Then, after deciding which ones are our best bets, we'll need to keep the cult's attention while we either break or finesse our way inside. Finally, we'll need to cripple this place as much as possible to prevent them from immediately retaliating. Clarity, your tactical expertise is also welcome." She sighs. "I suppose I have to admit that I'm glad you're here. And certainly anyone else with anything to contribute is more than welcome to do so."
Ra'ven frowns slightly, "So you want to undermine this place then?"
Yltheria: "Am I also allowed to be part of your pack, Ra'ven?" Her voice is still a bit shaky, but it seems to be a genuine question.
Ra'ven tilts her head, "I mean, well, you followed? I don't exactly have a good track record but... well I tried to ditch Vul and he came back anyways?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "Yes, I do want to do that, whatever form that takes. I understand that your beliefs are aligned with them, but can you honestly tell me that you agree with their methods?"
Ra'ven: "I mean, the barging in and killing people uselessly no, but that was obvious and also it turns out they agreed it was dumb?"
Yltheria: "Nobody else is offering to be the leader of a pack. The others seem to trust you. If I want to be part of a pack, your are the one I have to ask."
Ra'ven tilts her head at Yith, "So I have no reason to not want you in such a thing at least... other then the general danger but you seem aware of that."
Ra'ven sighs, "It's not safe with me as a general rule but I'm noticing it's not exactly safe without me either"
Rai Patience Cantor closes her eyes, and seems to be counting for a few seconds. "Ra'ven, I understand that you are not what we might call worldly. But the Silverfang cult regularly carries out assassinations, sabotage, and acts of large scale intimidation among numerous other lesser crimes. They were only invited because they have undeniable expertise when it comes to Garmera. If the situation were not so serious, they would simply have been arrested when they arrived."
Rai Patience Cantor: "This is an organization with more blood on its hands than me on my very worst day. Please trust me that you do NOT want them leading the charge to save Garmera, if that is your intention."
Ra'ven sighs, "I.. suppose that's not great but wouldn't we end up doing that as well?"
Ra'ven: "Oh, leading, no."
Clarity: "It might be better to pit them against the Iron, were that possible. But at this point I am at a loss as to what's possible."
Rai Patience Cantor: "If, in the future, we can make use of them, then I strongly suggest we do so. But as for the present, when we burgle them for their sensitive information and material, we should also make sure that this cell cannot simply strike back at us right away. After all, they are in no mood to follow OUR lead."
Ra'ven: "What? That's not true, they were just saying how my plan helped them and was good?"
Ra'ven looks confused
Eileen: "So rob them blind and burn the house down on our way out. I like it."
Rai Patience Cantor: "And how long will that last when they discover your ruse, Ra'ven?"
Ra'ven: "Do they often quarl with other believers?"
Clarity: "It's only a matter of time before they communicate with this supposed other pack in the city, right? Predator Pack or whatever he called it?"
Clarity: "Or do they not communicate at all? I guess that could be the case based on what happened tonight."
Ra'ven: "I mean, he didn't expect me to be there or say anything or name my pack for us."
Ra'ven: "They obviously don't have some easily available way to validate."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Sometimes, though not as often as all that. But I have little confidence that we can get everything we need here and then leave without them noticing that something has happened. And no matter that they believe us now, we are the newest to arrive. And yes, as Clarity mentions, Vayak will certainly be communicating this to whomever HIS superior is. Most of the other members are unlikely to know how to contact the cult at large, but Vayak, as Alpha, absolutely will."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Just because he isn't capable of doing it at a moments notice should not fool us into believing he can't do it at all."
Ra'ven sighs, "... I... am I being in the wrong? I spoke no lies and did no betrayals of him. He seems reasonable and appreciative of goals."
Ra'ven cringes, "I do this, it's a bad habit..."
Lucky: "'I technically didn't lie' doesn't usually go very far with people, unfortunately."
Ra'ven: "I... expect people to fall in line? Maybe it's the Devil..."
Rai Patience Cantor: "He's appreciative of your goals because he believes your goals include murdering those who disagree. If your conscience bothers you, suggest something pragmatic but heinous to him as a course of action. Once he agrees to do it, you will understand why we can't simply allow him to go on his way."
Ra'ven: "There is a difference between decieve and betray..."
Ra'ven: "Ah, so you think we should root out this cult?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "I really think that the salient issue with betrayal should be WHOM you are betraying, rather than the act of betrayal itself."
Rai Patience Cantor: "As for rooting the cult out... no, not necessarily. The cult at large might still be useful in the future. We simply need to ensure that these ones cannot retaliate. My suggestion is that we cripple their local manpower, beginning with those currently in this house. Then they'll lack the numbers to threaten us here, and will have to spend time and effort replenishing themselves."
Ra'ven: "Would that not be assassination?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "Yes, it would." Her tone of voice makes it clear that she gives negative fucks about that.
Rai Patience Cantor: "Again, the salient issue is where the assassination is directed."
Lucky: "We watched them murder a hostage in cold blood, Ra'ven."
Ra'ven: "In which case it's a practical opposed to moral objection from you?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "I see very little problem assassinating someone complicit to mass murder. There is some moral element to it."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Think of it this way: They came to the summit today INTENDING to kill people. You stopped them. And now we are here. We didn't make the first move, and in order for this attempt to mean anything, we probably now have to kill in what amounts to self defense, because they are not likely to let us or Professor Okorion go otherwise."
Ra'ven sighs, "So, the problem is he will report he got help from another cell that might not even actually exist here to his superiour and they will be tipped off."
Eileen nods at Rai, "Sounds about right."
Ra'ven: "However, it seems like such info isn't even really communicated."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Do you intend to leave Okorion with them, then?"
Ra'ven tilts her head
Ra'ven: "How about that? Perhaps we should question him first, then see if we can release him. I am not above playing the double agent, as you can see."
Lucky: "They're not about to let their VIP hostage go, and I doubt they'll make his last moments... fun."
Ra'ven: "It is not a bad idea to 'pretend' we rescuded him, after all."
Ra'ven: "They are already aware of my relitive lack of being able to restore cover"
Rai Patience Cantor: "Perhaps theoretical retaliation against you does not phase you. That's fair enough, you're very tough. But Okorion is a public figure. They know where he lives, and he's physically insignificant. If he leaves with us, how long do you think they will allow him to live, having seen their base of operations?"
Ra'ven: "It's not an insane ask but it IS a big one."
Eileen sighs and rubs her eyes, "Your not really getting it, there was going to be a plie of bodies at the end of this no matter were it happened, you've just geiven us the chance to make sure it's only them."
Ra'ven: "Aside from Gnolls, I dislike striking based on reputation."
Rai Patience Cantor: "I'd be surprised if he makes it through the night."
Lucky:
Lucky: "And they were planning to slaughter everyone in that room."
Ra'ven: "It sounded like they actually wanted their demand."
Lucky: "So? And it was okay to slaughter people until they got it?"
Lucky: "The Emir's demand was insane, too."
Eileen: "...and we can ask about that when he wakes up."
Rai Patience Cantor is silent for a few moments, then shrugs. "Well, I suppose I don't have any particular use for the professor. Anyone else at the society will do just as good a job at this point. He's fulfilled his task. So if you want to allow him to die, I suppose I won't make a fuss. But when you learn that he's been disembowled and left displayed for others to find, I expect you to remember this conversation."
Ra'ven: "They did wait a bit but..." she sighs, "I... it's terrible luck to betray someone who calls you sister and provides you hearth."
Rai Patience Cantor: "They only call you sister because they don't know that you aren't one of them. If they knew, they would be speaking with blades instead. Don't be naive."
Lucky: "If a devil calls you sister and provides you hearth, would you side with the devil?"
Rai Patience Cantor: ((LOLOLOLOL other campaign.)
=^v^=: (( lol zalanfe ))
=^v^=: (( so offended she got shot at ))
Rai Patience Cantor: ((For one of Akaiku's other characters, the answer is unequivocally, demonstably, and LITERALLY yes.))
Riot: (( lmao ))
Ra'ven gets a suddenly distanced look in her eyes, ".I... would not accept I think?"
=^v^=: (( hey just cause Zal backs her former bestie Glassya for overlord of hell... ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Zalanfe is literally best friends/blood sisters with Glasya, lord of the sixth layer, yup.)
Rai Patience Cantor: (And by extension Fierna as well.)
=^v^=: (( ironically she wasn't spiricually obligated to keep that relation but she... didn't wanna give it up ))
=^v^=: (( also felt super guilty about cheating her way out of the spiritual obligation ))
Lucky: "If you choose to dine with evil instead of fighting it, that makes you evil, too. There are very few exceptions, and one of those is what we're talking about doing here."
Lucky: ((oof))
Rai Patience Cantor:
Rai Patience Cantor: (Like with music, not baby seals.)
=^v^=: (( Zal, "She spitefully messed with me, but in a funny way" ))
Riot: (( lmfao ))
=^v^=: (( also she was more helpful then the minimum necessary for her to be ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Well, they're all devils, so friendship gets expressed differently amongst them. WERE devils, anyway. Sorta.)
=^v^=: (( ironically only fierra IS one ))
Rai Patience Cantor: (Technically, Glasya was never a devil; just raised by them. And Zalanfe no longer is. Fierna is still a devil.)
Ra'ven: "I.. still..." she sighs, "Would it be alright if i didn't actually... or..." she hmms, "Could I provide distraction of something if this is a thing you will do? If you kill this person's family he will retalite with all his might, I surmise that is true with all of them..." she sighs, "... we will have to fight all of them huh..."
Rai Patience Cantor: (Glasya is the daughter of the god Asmodeus and a primordial of ancient storms. Neither of those are devils, so she isn't either. She's just in charge of a shit ton of them.)
Riot: (( ahhh ))
Eileen: "I keep telling you, yes."
Ra'ven: ".... I... Yithera... I think we will need you first, however."
Rai Patience Cantor: "We don't have to end the bloodline. As long as they can't come after us any time soon should be sufficient. Go as far past that as you wish."
Lucky: "We are not killing someone's innocent family and leaving them to hunt us or something. I am not sure where you got that."
Yltheria: "What help do you need? I will willingly help."
Ra'ven: "This teleportation they have, the inventer is here. You are extremely learned... perhaps you can talk with them?"
Ra'ven: "Your age excuses you for curiosity, after all."
Ra'ven: "We do need to know how to use or stop it, after alll. Otherwise they coudl send an orb and recall however many they wish."
Yltheria: "Yes. I can do that. In fact, I would very much enjoy it. It seems fascinating." Her voice begins to speed up. "The underlying principle seems simple enough, but managing to both contain and direct far realm energy while also taking advantage of its decompository nature is a major feat, and I don't yet have a theory for how this person accomplished it. A breakthrough of this kind is of incredible value. They might not even know what they really have, because the implications for this kind of magecraft are massive in scope, and could potentially entirely alter our relationship to life and death, as well as Garmera herself!" She pulls back and composes herself. "Yes. We also need to know how to stop it."
Ra'ven nods, "Exactly that."
Yltheria: (Anyway, I think it's time. Very much looking forward to the next session, though!)
=^v^=: (( o shoot it is pretty late huh ))
Riot: (( same ))
Yltheria: (Thanks for being here, and I hope you had fun.)
Riot: (( I definitely did, thanks for the game ))
Yltheria: (Be well, Y'all! Von, Akaiku, let's do that RP thing tomorrow, kay?)
vonel: (( Sure, just tell me what time so I can make sure I'm up. ))
Riot: (( ooohhh a little Perra/Vul stuff? ))
Ganaroth?: When is a good time for you?
Ganaroth?: Yeah, Perra/Vul stuff.
=^v^=: (( ya in theory they gotta escape etc ))
Ra'ven: oh also
Riot: (( niiiice ))
Ganaroth?: If it's okay, evening is probably best in terms of me not accidentally skipping it.
Ra'ven: do not take ra'ven's total reluctance in this instance as me ooc being against it
Ganaroth?: Oh, no, I figured that.
Riot: Oh same
Ra'ven: k
Riot: Anyway gnight yall!
Ra'ven: she just has that thing where she is nice to bad people till they do something she hates
Ganaroth?: Gnight!
Ra'ven: like with the theifs
vonel: (( I'm normally up by ten, but I can be eairly so really what ever works out best for you two. I'll just set an alarm and be up by then. ))
Ganaroth?: Ok then. Sounds good. Night!
