Riot: How do?
Ganaroth: What's up?
Vul: yo
Riot: Got called in to work but the aircraft turned out to be broken so only went into the office and then came home lol
Ganaroth: I do... ok. I mean, things aren't great, but I am surviving and recovering. Congratz on the easy day, though, lols.
Riot: Sometimes that's all you can do. I'm glad you're recovering
Ganaroth: Appreciated.
Vul: I got my 'literally illegal to force me to go into an office' note approved for another year somewhat recently

Riot: Hi Von!
vonel: hello
Ganaroth: I think I'm at the limit at what I can do by sitting around in isolation, so I'm trying to ease back into social stuff.
Ganaroth: Hey Vonel!
Ganaroth: Actually, related to what I just said, I'd appreciate it if this could be a short session. A warm-up, of sorts. Is that okay?
vonel: Sure
Riot: Works for me
Ganaroth:
Riot: Valid
Ganaroth: (I will be right there, btw. Just tying a thing up.)
Riot: no worries
Ganaroth: (Okay.I'm more or less here now.)
Riot: same
Last time, in the universe that came before, of which no history remains beyond the dreams of dead gods, we played a game of D&D. In that game, you survived the blood ocean, but retreated in the face of Orbras's defenses. Before withdrawing, he made quite clear his intention to close this unwelcome backdoor into his domain, by whatever means necessary. After that, his image disappeared, but you have a distinct, and clearly purposeful, sense that he is continuing to observe you down here.
=^v^=: (( pretty sure we withdrew to not being spied upon probably as well! ))
Alsyne: (Gotcha! Well then that last part can be ignored.)
Riot: (( did we make it all the way back upstairs? I thought I had saved the notes file from the last session but I've only got one from the session prior ))
Riot: (( I feel like we made it back to the house and fucked off back to rest, but I could be imagining things ))
=^v^=: (( ya more or less, though I think Yith was lamenting having no sample from pool and vul was going to make suggestion once out of mystical earshot from pretty hostile wizard ))
Yltheria remains expressionless, lingering near the stairwell. Silent except for the regular click of her tongue, she draws her left thumbnail down the plaster of the cellar antechamber repeatedly, digging a series of regular parallel grooves.
Alsyne shivers. "I didn't really notice while were fighting... but that room smelled AWFUL. It was like a slaughterhouse was left to ferment for a few days, then they poured a fresh layer of fluids on."
Lucky: "I feel like we should clean this stuff off, not take it back into the house."
Yltheria: "...Yes. I can do that." She walks over and waves her hand, causing the disgusting residue to vanish from your clothing and bodies. "Thank you."
Yltheria:
  Prestidigitation
Effect: Use this cantrip to accomplish one of the effects given below: ? Change the color of items in 1 cubic foot. ? Create a harmless sensory effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint music, or a strong odor. ? Clean or soil items in 1 cubic foot. ? Instantly light (or snuff out) a candle, a torch, or a small campfire. ? Chill, warm, or flavor up to 1 pound of nonliving material for up to 1 hour. ? Make a small mark or symbol appear on a surface for up to 1 hour. ? Produce out of nothingness a small item or image that exists until the end of your next turn. ? Make a small, handheld item invisible until the end of your next turn.
Special: You can have as many as three prestidigitation effects active at one time. Nothing you create with this cantrip can deal damage, serve as a weapon or a tool, or hinder another creature's actions. This cantrip cannot duplicate the effect of any other power.
Vul: "It'd be extremely hard for me to do anything about that overlapping space without knowing more about the other bit..."
Clarity: "I get the feeling our neighborhood flesh wizard wouldn't have told us anything about it, no matter what we did."
Perra looks a bit calmer now, "...still going to take a bath when we get out of here."
Lucky: "I'm getting a beer, drinking it in the bath, and then passing the fuck out."
Eileen: "We'll just have to keep an eye out for what ever he's sending to try and knock the house down and reak the conection."
Clarity: "We should probably tell ... Patience ... first thing. She'll want to know if there's a possible threat to the house, knowing her."
Eileen: "Yeah."
Vul: "I mean ya, but it seems like Yith knows a bunch about that sort of thing?"
Yltheria: "I know... some of how you would go about making something like that. Theoretically. Partially. Mostly about how to create a translocation zone into one, but a little about the mechanics of the distortion as well." She frowns. "Partially. There were some things that didn't line up exactly, but I can't tell what is truly anomalous and what is simply my own ignorance at work." She turns to Perra. "You definitely should. Using purified water to cleanse yourself has a negative effect on necromantic curses that my cantrips don't."
Yltheria: "Holy water even more so, of course, but that's slightly more expensive to take a bath in."
Alsyne: "Yeah... So, are we drawing straws over who tells Patience, then? I mean, if you need me to, I'll do it, of course, but I don't know her very well."
Perra nods
Vul: "Oh I can do that if you are worried she'd be upset?"
Io: "If you would like. I was about to volunteer myself, since apparently everyone else is intimidated. Fortunately, valor is not completely lost in this world."
Io does not elaborate on why they consider confronting Patience over this to be valorous.
Io: (Riot is experiencing internet existence failure.)
Vul chuckles at it eitherways

Ganaroth: (Welcome back)
Riot: (( Thanks, that was frustrating. And thanks for fixing the login issue Vul ))
Riot: (( now where did we leave off? G sent me up to the point where Vul chuckles ))
Ganaroth: (That's current.)
Lucky: "I'll tell her. Just let me grab my beer first."
Vul: "I mean it's not like this is particularlly worse news then expected right?"
Lucky: "I'm sure she'll be her usual self about it."
Clarity: "You mean grouchy and prone to violence?"
Lucky nods, "Yep." (she pops the "p" very loudly)
Vul: "Hey, she hasn't ever taken a swing at any of us that I recall..>"
Yltheria: "There is beer in the cold chest, in the loung on the first floor. I don't know if it's good, though, because I've promised my father not to drink for another five years." She pauses. "Mother didn't seem to object, but I think I should listen to father on this subject instead."
Lucky looks toward Vul, "I mean toward whomever might show up to 'solve' this problem. I assume that's what blondie meant, too."
Io: "Do threats count? I recall a few whose humorous nature was... ambiguous."
Clarity scrunches her face at the name but nods a confirmation.
Vul: "Nope, threats are blowing off steam."
Vul: "She is extremely reasonable after all. See how upset she gets when she's made unreasonable..."
Io: "I see. Yes, that makes sense. It's a very draconic perspective, really."
Lucky pats Yltheria on the shoulder, "That's probably a good idea. Where I live the rule is 'if they can see over the counter, and they have money, they can drink', but I've seen the results more times than I'd like. I no longer serve people who are clearly children."
Vul being a mighty 5'1" gives a look at Lucky at 'see over counter'
Yltheria: "What about halflings? Or gnomes?" She look up at you, curious."
Yltheria: "Also, do they need to see over the bar while standing or while seated?"
Lucky: "You can generally tell when they're grown. But yeah, I never said the rule was particularly smart. Village rules are what they are sometimes."
Yltheria: "Oh. Yes, I understand that. Not just in villages either. I very much enjoy the Pale Academy, but there are customs there that still make no sense to me, no matter how often I ask."
Lucky smiles and nods.
Alsyne: "Half of the world seems crazy to me, honestly, but I'm smart enough to get that I'm the weird bumpkin. I think Ra'Ven mentioned that she was in a similar sort of situation, so I guess you were too, Vul?"
Clarity:
Io: "Outcasts and those displaced are we, whose homes are gone, or far removed. Disparate souls of custom and nature, with a world showing a new face with each turn of the stone."
Io: "Part of a very old poem on the nature of learning, apologies. Some concepts transcend millenia, I think."
Vul: "Well, I mean, I read some stories, but ya, they are often not like places really are. But then again a lot of places are the same?"
Lucky:
Vul: "Basically everywhere you can get some sort of food and drink at a dry spot in return for something shiny"
Vul: "It even works for many animals and quite a few spirits"
Yltheria: "A barren wasteland in the middle of a dead magic region."
Vul: "Well, places with people..."
Lucky: "That's fine and dandy until you go back into your stockroom and an 8 year old human is trying to see if he can pee on the ceiling."
Yltheria: "There could be undead there. Or potentially sapient elementals."
Eileen: "That's oddly specific."
Vul hmms, "Elementals would 'live' in a dead magic zone?"
Lucky "It wasn't even the first time."
Clarity: "Wait wait wait, I was distracted by the stories about the, uh, unconventional bar situations. What dead magic zone?"
Vul: "Yith's counter example one"
Yltheria: "It depends on the kind of elemental, but most can. Earth elementals in particular barely notice a null magic zone." She hesitates. "I DO know of one, but I've never tried to buy a drink there, for the reasons I implied."
Vul: "Huh.. I've never actually encountered an elemental outside of places that tend to have strong natural magic...."
Clarity: "Ohhhh okay."
Clarity clearly missed something, but she's pretending to understand.
Vul shakes his head, "Anyways, telling about our basement problem! Are you all just joking about having an issue?"
Vul: "I mean if it is I don't have one, if not feel free, she's your friend right?" to Lucky and sorta in askence to Clarity
Clarity looks away quickly.
Yltheria: "...." Me remains silent.
Lucky: "I'll tell her. Anyone else who wants to be there, feel free. I think it'll be fine. Probably."
Lucky: "Maybe."
Vul: "It will completely be fine..."
Eileen: "I'll come along."
Vul shakes his head, "Wonder how my sis's mission is going..."
Lucky: "Maybe we can get an update on that, too."
Io: "Well, I hope. I haven't known her long, but she seemed competent, and pleasant enough."
Lucky:
Clarity mumbles under her breath, "Prickly. Hmph."
Io: "...I meant Ra'Ven. Patience I would describe as reasonable, rather than pleasant."
Lucky: "Ah, yeah that makes more sense."

vonel: (( that was it. ))
Riot: (( Oh so we went to talk to her then? ))
vonel: (( yep ))
Eileen: "The basment is conected to someones blood soaked lair, and I do mean that very literally."
Lucky: "Mr Flesh Wizard was living in a pool of blood in the basement. Had an army of little ghoulies. He was very insistent that our spaces overlap and he was going to break the connection by any means necessary."
Rai Patience Cantor: (Oh, shoot. Didn't notice that you were back. Hold on for a moment. Yeah, I jumped you guys forward, since nobody had mentioned wanting to do anything else aside from getting some beer. If you don't want to do that, I can rewind.)
Riot: (( nah as long as Lucky has a beer in her hand I'm fine ))
Rai Patience Cantor: "Break the connection by any means necessary. It doesn't sound as though he's planning to limit himself to collapsing the connection harmlessly. Later, I'm going to ask all of you for information on your encounter, so that I can glean whatever clues are available. I'd like to be able to guess what he's planning to do next, and when." She grimaces in distaste. "His lair sounds positively delightful. By which I mean tacky, which is in fact a pun." She frowns. "I'm also worried. According to the information we have, the basement reacts to whatever the last extreme cycle was. So... the last Patina connected it to the lair of a necromancer. What happens when we hit an Auric cycle? Or Argent, or a Yawn, for Garmera's sake. Does our basement connect to the lairs of several DIFFERENT megalomaniacs, or did we get very unlucky on the first try?"
Rai Patience Cantor: (Lucky can have two beers, if she wants. I bet she double fists every now and again. Dual Wielding, baby!)
Vul hmms, "Well, it stands to reason it connects to locations of the same idea as the phase?"
Vul: "That'd make the folding make more sense really..."
Vul: "Oh the other hand, it stands to reason the connection will be severed when the next phase happens, when is that supposed to hit?"
Clarity looks at Vul, "What do you mean, the same idea?"
Vul: "Idea, it's a strong death power location it seemed? Blood foutain, ghosts, the works."
Vul: "As my sister would put it, it's the sorta place the Wolf sees when she warns us."
Clarity: "Oh, okay! So like this basement is connected to death, and so is his lair, so they overlap during the Patina! Matching themes!"
Eileen: "I'm not sure were in any danger of something coming up, if stuff could get out of the basment any number of things would have been pouring out of this house over the years."
Vul: "More it stands to reason the seams are not obvious, so unless it connects to a place that has an outpouring of whatever constantly, you just get wandering?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "I'm inclined to agree with your desire, in this case. He likely has any number of magical secrets, but we aren't without our own resources there, and his death would mean we could explore his stronghold at our leisure. But I can understand that the situation didn't allow it." She taps her fingers on her desk, an antique of wood so dark that it is almost black. "The next cycle should be a Silver, in three days. As for the next extreme cycle, I heard it was supposed to be within 4 and 5 weeks away, and that the prediction is Electrum. But you know as well as I do that these things aren't guaranteed." She nods at Eileen and Vul both. "We don't really know enough either way. Figuring out whether he could reliably assault us from his side involves too many answers that we simply don't know. Either scenario you described is possible."
Rai Patience Cantor: (within = between 4 and 5 weeks)
Vul: "It really sounded like he was going to go the less direct way though."
Vul: "I mean we did tell him where we are, but I mean, he could have just, you know, followed us anyways and get here a lot quicker?"
Lucky grumbles a bit. "I don't honestly give a shit about his stronghold, he tried to kill the kid with his minions and that was where I drew the line."
Lucky: "And if I recall correctly, he figured out where we were regardless, didn't he?"
Vul: "We did sorta kick in the door to his inner sanctom..."
Vul: "... literally as I recall."
Eileen: "I regret nothing."
Lucky:
Lucky pounds the rest of one beer and sets the bottle on the desk. "Sorry, I'm just a little peeved about that."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Yes. But we don't know if invading from his end is impossible, or whether he simply doesn't know how to do it yet. What if he figures out the technique while his other forces are on their way? It would be the difference between fighting on one or two fronts. We technically don't even know if he's telling the truth about his inability. Perhaps he's marshalling extra forces on his side right now, and didn't immediately follow because he didn't know what defenses we had. Maybe he's sending invisible spies through at this moment. We don't know, and it would be foolish to bet our lives that things will work out in the most convenient fashion for us."
Vul: "Ya which is why I tried to be nice?"
Lucky: "He had us on the ropes but he let us go. I think if he intended to do something in the immediate, he would have done it then."\
Vul: "Really, the basement not going to a freaky blood pool would be best for all of us."
Lucky: "But I could be wrong. I don't know about necromancer shit."
Vul:
Clarity walks over and grabs the bottle off the desk before Patience can get irritated by it, and throws it in the closest trash bin.
Yltheria: "I think I already gave my opinion on the subject of attempting to murder me. I'm against it, but it's understandable. ...You care, though." She gives an awkward half-smile.
Vul: "Sending an army is not, genrally, helpful for the 'I need to not be distrubed'" part
Lucky: "He did know what city we were in, and from what you all tell me, this place *waves arms* is like the high magic court or something. It feels like it'd be incredibly stupid to attack it in the open."
Lucky: "I'm very against it, kid."
Rai Patience Cantor looks at Clarity with a tiny twinge of surprise, then inclines her head in a minute show of thanks.
Clarity: "That didn't stop the Iron from sending their people straight into the city. I don't think we can bank on it for our new friend, either."
Vul:
Vul: "Space is pretty... springy. It folds, but it snaps back unless something holds it and that's pretty hard. I... well, don't know of anything short of a rune maze that could do this? And this would be the wierdest one I've ever heard of."
Rai Patience Cantor: "Yes. I intend to put out feelers to find out exactly why Si En Kelar has become so porous. The city is busy right now, but the lack of security is suspicious. In times like this, it should be twice as hard to sneak inside, not easier."
Rai Patience Cantor starts at Vul's statement. "You're quite certain that it is NOT a rune maze, then? Do I have to worry about that kind of trouble under my new house?" Her voice sounds tightly controlled, as though masking real fear.
Vul shrugs, "I mean, I'd say every rune maze wants you to leave, but we found Io in that suspiciously similar to one..."
Vul:
Rai Patience Cantor: "Yes. Tyellenthi as well, unless those were two parts of the same one. But that place was man-made, if indescribably ancient. Rune Mazes, to my knowledge, are not." She shivers. "Yes, nobody feels comfortable in a rune maze." She purses her lips. "Most people don't wake up in the middle of the night about the idea. Ah well." Her eyes widen. "Dear storms, I hope not. This entire affair has begun because she is undergoing unprecedented change. I don't want anything so unstable directly connected with us."
Vul:
Rai Patience Cantor: "Unless you are implying that I should charge gullible Lansirians a fee to make pilgrimages, it being a holy site offers me very few advantages. That being said, I'm willing to support research from this base, provided that it is kept in-house. Pun once again intended. I feel whimsical today."
Vul: "Err... I mean, yes? You wanted to make a lot of money right?"
Vul: "Also it wouldn't really be gullible right? Since it's not actually fake?"
Rai Patience Cantor: "I'll consider it for when we're more established. For now, the last thing that I need is a horde of idiot zealots filling the halls and potentially spying on our activities. And the gullibility isn't in the holiness of the site, it's in the waste of time that is a pilgrimage."
